domination/curses

power spike
energy burn
mark of pain
insidious parasite
parasitic bond
cry of frustration
empathy
rez sig

build is pretty simple...
empathy + insidious parasite your attacker, and that will do maybe 40 dmg per hit, then energy burn, when they go to heal use cry of frustration to interupt, keep repeating and as soon as your enemy is about to die cast parasitic bond for a quick heal

At the moment, my Me/Mo mainly use Backfire and Power Spike against casters.

Backfire kinda make them think twice before casting a spell. If they decide to cast a spell under the hex then they take damage. With high Domination, this can do alot of harm on them.

Power Spike is for interrupting the spell being cast. If done right, they've wasted some energy on a spell didn't happen and they take damage as well. Good on healers as they don't get to heal and lose both energy and health as well.

I've found that enemy casters tend to cast low level offensive spells first. So I usually cast Backfire and wait (maybe switch and hit Empathy on a melee foe). Let the caster get one spell off so they take the Backfire damage and then Power Spike the following spell.

I find both of those nice to teach casters to not do what they're suppose to do, that is, to cast spells.

Most of the mesmer direct-damage comes from energy drain anyway, but its not that effective in PvE (higher monsters wont blink at your 80 dam, 20s recharge). However, i'll take a look at a lowlevel pve build possibility..

Since you want damage, ill throw out some random skills i feel are useful. Domin/Curse is indeed probably the best way..

Backfire (obvious)
Empathy (of course)
Shatter hex (nice aoe damage, as well as party help. Got a damage downgrade but the recharge speed is increased. The price is kinda annoying though).
Shatter enchantment (helpful for a quick jolt of energy, especially on lowhp enemies that heal themselves with healing breeze)
Power spike (nice sharp bit of damage, but imho less useful as the game progresses and stuff gets more hps. Still handy, however)
Cry of Frustration (AoE interrupt and a tiny bit of damage, not bad but expensive at 15e)

Insidious parisite (half the power of empathy, but heals you. Expensive at 15e, so i usually wouldn't use it. Not too bad with good energy management)
Price of failure (you wont have the blinding elites yet, but if your tank uses stances, this is basically another empathy. Even without that, its 25% misschance, which isnt bad)
Mark of Pain (incredibly powerful aoe curse, but only triggers on phy damage... if you have a bow, or some rangers in your team, this is exceptional at dealing pain.
Soul Barbs (if you have so many hexes anyways, why not toss in a bit more damage. need pretty good energy management for this though)

Now then... looking at those skills... a build of something like..

Backfire (caster damage)
Empathy (warrior
Price of Failure damage)
Soul Barbs (just to add some more pain)
Energy Tap (These for energy
Channelling management)
Shatter Hex (team support, and nice damage when used on tank etc)
Res signet (because)

Or any other variant you could come up with. I prefer to play pure mes for this reason, theres just way too much cool stuff to look at in other classes

If he has energy problems, you could try using Price of Failure on top of Spirit of failure ^_~

Invest in Fast Casting and Curses, if you want to do a damage dealer. Mesmers alone can't do damage for squat, as they only disrupt.

You can try a high degen build. Those are pretty easy to do.

Just don't use your primary mesmer for damage dealing .

I agree that Energy Tap is the better option to regain energy. It's more guaranteed than Spirit of Failure. The amount of energy ET gives does depend on how much it takes from the foe, and the chances of casting it on foe with no energy is low, so you will get something back. Whereas, Spirit of Failure might be cast on a foe who stops attacking (e.g. they decide to cast enchantments, wait for health regen, run away, etc.), or the hex could be removed.

To the OP, if you want people to help you with this then I suggest that you take part the discussion rather than just reply with "bumpy".
