Got a R/E. I still have the 3 Ring of fire missions left, but have officially begun my introduction to PvP (random arenas). Current build:
fire magic 9
beast mastery 8+1
wilderness survival 9+1
marksmanship 7+3+1 I'm too poor to buy new armor to change the runes around
expertise 8+1
charm animal
res sig
troll ungent
quick shot
dual shot
kindle arrows
conjure flame
favorable winds
Got a dilemma, though. I just charmed a spider, so want to bring Fluffy along. I also want to use conjure flame to make the most use out of kindle and dual. Is doing both just spreading my attributes too thin to make either worthwile?
I prefer punishing shot to quick shot, but with only 2 skill slots for bow attacks, that isn't gonna work.
The questions are.... Should I dump Fluffy? The new pet guide says that his 10 or so dps are pretty solid, though. If I do drop him, where should I put the attributes? Or should I drop the conjure flame and focus back on ranger stuff. What attributes, though.... marks and add more bow skills, wilderness for troll and kindle, etc.?
Ha, just now realized I don't have any marks skills in my bar, and my bow is req. 9.... better move of some points around.
So any thoughts, suggestions, critiques? I appreciate it.
P.S. Is kindle enough to trigger conjure flame, or do I need a fiery bow string?

Fav. winds is marksmanship based, and your bow damage is based on marksmanship, so don't move to many around yet
However, you have 9 beast mastery and no tiger's fury. That is a bad plan. Since you want to keep your spider in the action, I would suggest replacing favorable winds with tiger's fury. Or, if you want to risk not having a monk on your team and dying a lot, drop troll unguent for tiger's fury. TU is not the best skill to begin with, and while it can heal you a bit, you will still go down under focused fire, so just look at it as losing the chance to make a mistake.
Next, find a short bow or a half-moon bow. These have the fastest fire rate (though the smallest range). Since you want high dps, fast-attacking bows are the way to go.
Lastly, distracting shot is a powerful skill. If you choose to drop troll unguent, you might want to consider dropping fav. winds and replacing it with distracting shot. In pvp you will find it highly useful, especially when your target starts to use a res signet.

Kindle is enough, you don't need a firey string. Zealous strings on short bows can give you more energy, if you are having trouble with that. Otherwise, try and use a vampiric string.

FYI, you dont need new armor to change runes, applying a rune to armor that already has a rune just obliterates the previous rune
5 attributes is too many. I try not to have more than 3, if possible. Try one way then the other and see which works best for you.

I wouldn't try to bring your pet through ring of fire missions. It's just going to die and you have no way to rez it. I've done those missions quite a few times and I've never seen pets work very well. Even if you do rez it, it wont be long before it's dead again.

Ghez.... I know you can override runes, but I don't like the idea of negating a sup. marks rune, when i'm so poor, and may want it back another time. Also, I try to keep things to 3 attributes usually, too.... but there's just so many options and so many good skills for rangers
Xcut.... thanks for the advice... I think I'm gonna drop Fluffy and spread the love to my damage.
Banebow... I understand that tigers fury would serve well for this, but I never really liked how it works in practice. I think I'm gonna drop. beast, so that negates t.f. This will allow me to keep marks high and damage up (and fav. winds, but my earlier point was that the duration does not have a big impact on my build). Also, I disagree on troll ungent, and think it's a good heal. And I definitely like distracting shot, just couldn't fit it in before. So, I'm prob. gonna revamp. it to:
troll ungent
Fav. winds
kindle arrows
conjure flame
dual shot
quickshot
distracting shot
res. sig
not sure what the attributes will end up at yet, but we'll see.
