Is it possible to solo on guild wars? My friend has told me that you basically HAVE to group hunt or you'll die..? And that if you dont do quests you cant get skills? Can anyone confirm this? Thanks in advance

Sure you can solo, I do it all the time. You need a group for some missions and quests and can use npc henchmen if you don't want to or can't find players with which to group.

Not quite true...

You can play solo just fine (I just did, as I couldn't find a group then and there), but instead of playing all alone, you play with computer controlled henchmen...

As for quests to get skills, yes you can get most of them through quests, but it's also possible to buy them from a skill trader in cities after you've passed the quest area... So unless you need the skill there, you don't have to get it from a quest...
Note: it might be certain skills that you can gain through quests that will not be available through skill-traders. There are also elite skills that you have to capture to gain access to...

Hope this answers your questions

[EDIT]
Hmm, guess I was a bit late, but to my defence I have to say that none of the posts between this and thread starter was visible when I replied

If you've played similar games in the past, one surprise you might find in GW is that some battles can be essentially stalemates if you're truly solo (meaning, no NPC henchmen, no PC characters). Mana/power regenerates so quickly that it isn't all that unusual to find a critter that can heal itself quickly enough that you can't kill it alone, while it isn't powerful enough to kill you.

I've found that by level 9 or so, I really need a 'group' to be effective, though most of the time that group is me and an NPC henchman or two.
