About Ranger/Necromancer (R/N)
I am gaining a lot of knowledge about the other secondary classes for a primary Ranger, but one secondary profession is still a bit confusing to me, R/N. R/N seems to have very interesting capabilities, and I would like to know more about them.
*Some things I would like to see in this thread:
-Experience of playing a Ranger/Necromancer and your opinion if R/N would be a + or - profession combination. Is it fun??
-Strategies and builds having to do with R/N.
-Specific skills to help out a R/N, describing what the skill does, and how effective it is when playing a R/N.
-PVE Guide to playing a R/N. Or maybe it would be better to play another secondary profession in PVE and the switch to R/N once ascended?
-Any information other than those topics on R/N is much appreciated.

If you are looking for R/N Touch build, there's already a thread in this Ranger Forum.
Basically, use Expertise to cut down the energy cost of Vamp Touch and Touch of Agony. Expertise is the key. Without it, Ranger won't be able to spam skills.
Other R/N I know is with some Curses. Mark of Pain for PvE and Weaken Armor for PvP.
Some R/N rangers only use Life Transfer and Life Siphon. That's viable too.
There is already a thread here about R/N Death/Minions. I don't see how that's going to be effective since casting minions/fiends can be really energy costly, although I did manage to utilize Ferocious Strike to summon Fiends in PvP. It's not highly effective since a Death Necro use minions for stealing health, death nova and more.

-Any information other than those topics on R/N is much appreciated. Early game you won't have alot of spare attributes to spread around. One skill you can make use of with zero attributes is Shadow of Fear. Plague touch is nice but less useful in PvE.
Outside of a Touch Ranger one basic set of skills I use in small arena PvP as a bow using R/N is Plague Touch and Vampiric Touch. I use Vampiric in lieu of Troll Ungent, since I don't use any other wilderness skills. Here is one of my Comp Arena R/N builds:
Crippling Shot {E}
Hunters Shot
Savage Shot
Distracting Shot
Plague Touch
Whirling Defense
Vampiric Touch
Res Sig
9 Blood
12+1+3 Expertise
the rest +1 Marks

Thank you two for the information.
So, are there not many options for a R/N? I know that a secondary profession is used to help the primary, but I want to make sure m y secondary profession aids my primary ranger the best it can. Basically, the more I can use my secondary for my primary, the better. I want more options. Does R/N do this for me?

try out rend entchantments, even at curses 0 you will steal 5 enatchantments which is great. i also tried out blood ritual and order of pain with low bloodmagic but only in RA so it wasnt that sucessful. plague touch is a very nice skill too. touch build i think are kind of boring, its the thing most r/n outthere are doing atm.

All in all - A ranger is not designed to take on the Necromancers energy hog skills.
A well placed Enchantment Stripper (like rend, or something)on a Ranger can sort of help /I Guess/ in Comp Arenas.
Anything real hard support and you'll be teasing the Rangers near Warrior lvl Energy pool and regen.
Thats why R/N's took to Touchs..their the only thing Rangers can truly spam off their secondary.
Not that many rangers even USE their secondarys anyway..An occasional R/Mo with Judge's Insight, or the popular Resolve trapper..and thats about it. You dont evne see much R/E using conjure anymore.

Yeah, for the most part a Ranger's secondary profession tends to contribute, at best, a single skill or maybe two at best, since Rangers can basically do whatever they want anyways. The best build for an R/N trying to truly use the /N half, that I've seen/tried, is the Touch build.

OMG, I can't stand the R/N touch build. When I fight them in PVP, I love mutilating them.

If I'm a r/n, I'd usually use rigor mortis or parasitic bond. Nothing too big, unless of course your a touch ranger.
