Last night we had 3 Rangers and a Monk on the team. It was competition arena so everything is random. We did so well until the 9th game.
There were 1 Me/E, 1 N/Me and 1 Warrior and 1 Ranger. The mesmer and necro died easily and guess what? Both the warrior and ranger are professonal runners! They didn't even engage in combat at all 'cause the warrior only has 1 in Sword and the Ranger used nothing but running skills like Dodge, Escape, Stormchaser, Whirling Defense. The Warrior used Charge and Sprint.
None of us had snare skill because like I've said, it's a random team.
It turns out the battle took 60mins to end. We ended up chatting about games and the ranger said he would leave at 60mins. He took a screenshot 'cause that's the longest battle he's ever tried to annoy and he succeeded.
None of us left 'cause we did so well together and I was bored so I didn't want to leave. We just want to see how long it took them to leave the game.
We ended up chatting about Time Limits. How come A.Net has never thought about putting Time Limit in Random arena? Ok, you can argue that you "should" bring a snare skill in Team situation just to avoid people running like hell. But in Random situation, you don't know what you are getting.
--------------------
I suggested 10 Mins Max for Random Arena.
- The team with more players alive won the match.
- If both teams have the same player count, then the match is Tied. Nobody gains Faction Points, MOVE ON to next match.
I have no problem with Tied games. It really pisses people off when you have a winning team and you meet a team of runners who do nothing but runs. Running is part of the game but it is certainly abused in an Annoying way. We are talking about people who do NOTHING but run just to annoy the opponents. They don't leave the game so you are forced to leave the game or play "patience" game with them.
A.Net should put Time Limit on at least Random Match. I don't see how this is going to ruin the game at all. It's at least a good way to avoid runners. You can argue that I could easily leave the game and move on and don't blame A.Net. But why do I have to leave the game just because somebody decides to annoy the hell of me? I am not blaming A.Net. I just think it's LOGICAL to put Time Limt on matches, at least in the random one.
60mins CA game. :)

Realizing that CA is something totally different than Tombs or other PvP is something some peopel need to do.
Common tactics in CA are to use easily countered stuff that turns deadly when no counters for it are used - because half the people just carry their PvE builds over.
So if you take it upon yourself to bring a snare, or some form of anti-interuption, things move smoother.
Like the other day I was testing out Touch Ranger in the CA, and met a warrior - his team fell fast, and he sit there with a good farming build - hoping noone could ever take him because they didn't bring anything to counter it.
So he sit there with Bonetti, and All the prot monk stuff you'd see on a Farming W/Mo.
I noticed my team was focusing all on him, so I just watch his skills used for a minute while he gloats about being invincible. Then once I get an idea of what build he was using - I just ran over there and: Vamp Touch, Agony Touch, Vamp Touch, Agony Touch, VAmp Touch = Him dead. He didnt factor in I guess the fact that none of his protection skills made any difference to TOuch skills.

Well, I wouldn't turn down a time limit. But I would raise it to like 15 minutes. I like when my matches go past the 10 minute mark. That means that generally, we have two good teams who actually try. So once it gets to 15 minutes I would say end it. But yes bringing a snare of some sort would just help you out in the first place.

i'm with ben on this one.

Bringing a snare isn't enough - not against a real runner/griefer. It'll stop a guy who just brought a sprint to get away with, but not a real pain.
I had a snare (Hamstring) and a weapon switch with a crippling mod, a cover condition (Enfeeble), a hex to counter skills (Spinal Shivers), a cover hex (Parasitic) and a stance breaking skill (Wild Blow) and couldn't stop a runner - he had 2 different condition removers, hex removal that was faster than I can apply hexes and speed/evasive stances and healing. Even when I managed to cripple and cover it the 2 condition removals are just too fast, and you can't keep a hex on him either. (Holy Veil doesn't need to be cast to remove, you just drop the enchantment, so it got around my Spinal Shivers and was faster.
Running needs to be stopped, and I don't know what the options really are - sudden death score chart after a time limit?

How about a speed boost degradation after time? Like say, X minutes into the match, if nobody's dead yet, speed boosts become ineffective. It may need to be adjusted for the team arenas vs. the hoh and guild battles, but it would help lower the instances of speed demons griefing others.

in wich i never get into a group so whats the point in that i happen to not have a rank of 1 or a rank at all for that matter cause i never get into a group i've been in there hoping to find one for 3 hours befor

Yeah getting into decent PUG tomb teams below rank 6 is a bit of a pain, unless you're willing to play "tainted necro" or "trapper". Though I guess this could be my fault for swapping to the American Servers. American PUG == IWAY
BeowulfKamdas
just leave and start another match :P
i generally don't have this problem cuz i always bring a speed boost or a snare
