Don't expect to do this run a dozen times and find Sup Vigors and Absorbs. Its just not going to happen-why do you think these runes cost so much, because there RARE and hard to find.

hmm...i realised its all for warriors, cant a monk farm them? or a ranger?
darkMishkin
Anyone can farm Ettins with any profession, just look through your skills list. But if you just want to copy someone elses build, I guess you're going to have to make a warrior.

Theres a thread in the ranger section about ettin farming so can be done.
If theres not already a guide for you class. Be the person that comes up with the build and get all the repect and admeration, then demand 25% of all loot from people that use your build.

Rangers - Traps
Eles - ... how hard is it to kill with an ele?
Wars - ... read
Mesmers - not sure... maybe the IW UW build?
Necro - SS
None is really that hard, as long as you have decent armor/boosting skills.

For everyone who might have wondered, yes, the Ettins are still generous after the latest patch...
...even though those two were both Major runes
Btw. it seems that even though I might be able to take on and defeat up to 8 ettins at once, it still doesn´t seem to give a better chance at getting the rare pauldrons.

Someone who doesn`t farm ettins will make a false impression by reading this topic, since only the good rare drops are posted here. For the nerfing agent reading this, you can go through several runs without a single rare drop.
Mournblade
Amen to that. I'm up to 6 runs without a purple or gold drop. =\
Chuba
Yeah, that was my only double rare drop in about a week, and as I said, they were both only Major runes. In my experience, the rare pauldrons drop about once every 15-20 or so ettins, and only about 1 out of 5 is a superior rune, but it varies a lot too. Longer runs seem to up the average a bit. And you have to make sure you go all the way throught both areas and exit to the third and come back all the way so you literally change the zone twice every run, even without going to the town inbetween, which I don´t do either until my inventory is full.
Doctor Death
Ive always enjoyed Ettin farming and I agree with you Chuba in that my drop rates are comparable with yours except I find Gold armour seems to produce more than 1 in 5 superiors.
I have not been able to farm them lately though because I have unlocked the Defend Kryta mission with my farmer and have not been able to find a pug for it. Them damn Titans have killed all the ettins near captin Greywind.

I saw someone mentioning three zones ? Usually I exit from beetletun, go to ascallon settlement and come back to beetletun.
Do I miss something? I made two runs this morning, and found 5 or 6 minor, 1 or 2 major and 1 sup. healing in all. I guess beguinner's luck I don't expect having that much in a few days

Yeah, abandoning the quest and beginning a new run works well on that situation. Boubou: when I said three zones, I mean starting from Beetletun, going all the way through Nebo Terrace, Northern Kryta/Giant´s Basin and zoning in to Scoundrel´s Rise, then immediately zoning back at the entrance and fighting through to the Nebo Ettins and again turning back. That way it reduces the anti-farm drop reduction as you literally visit three different zones.
Carinae
Are there Ettins in Scoundrel's Rise? Because there are TONS of Ettins beyond it in Gryphon's Whatever.
There are also a TON of Tengu south of Ascalon Settlement. They always drop a gold. Sometimes I wipe them all just because I'm bored. I can kill 60+ Tengu in under 4 minutes.

Scoundrel´s Rise only has those annoying mergoyles, but by following the road from ascalon settlement to the Scoundrel´s entrance and zoning in and back to N. kryta again you´re bound find most of the Ettins around. Actually the thought of going all the way through griffon´s mouth to get those Ettins as well has crossed my mind as well, but it requires some tuning in the build to survive the Mergoyles´ Deep freeze or whatever they are using to slow you down even though they don´t do much damage.
Carinae
Mergoyles may be annoying, but they are also minion-larve!!!!
BWoods
The only problem I've ever had with Mergoyles (minus the slow when doing a run to Gates) has been with Spirit Shackels + Mind Wrack. This combo annoys me when farming with my Warrior. Though ususally after the first -75 hp if you keep they Energy at 0 you won't take more damage. This is good if you are a warrior using adren skills.
I never tried going from Beetleton to Scoundrel's Rise. I just rezoned and tried again. What about the Ettins in the caves before Scoundrel's, do they drop anything or are Gypsie Ettins the only type that drop anything useful.

IS it still viable? YES.
All these threads about Ettin farming got me to go do it some more this morning.
On my ranger - Left Bettletun, ran to first group of ettins, Dropped Silver Dye. Killed the rest, went into NKP, killed first group of them, one dropped Sup Divine Favor pauldron. Killed rest.
Went nad sold the Sup divine Favor (7k), and SIlver Dye I just went to trader with (600gp), sold off the rest fo the junk (8,666gp total profit).
Went back to bettletun, Nebo ettins dropped a Major Vigor rune for me, I said sweet, went to NKP ones, Last group of ettins - Drop a Superior Vigor rune for me. Went and sold Major Vigor (4k), and the random stuff (12, 865gp now). Holding on the Sup Vigor.
But basically made over 60k in 2 trips.

Actually, it can be very profitable and mindnumbing.....and I find that if you leave for a while (farm in a different place for a few hours) and come back the drops are better for you.
I also see that almost everyone uses an axe when farming them. I find that a sword with a fiery hilt does more damage (hint hint). Also going with 2 different interruption skills is priceless.....distracting blow, savage slash

Just wanted to post my 2 cents worth of info about ettin farming. First and foremost it has treated me well...lots of sup vigors and sup absorptions! Started with the 55 monk build til they nerfed the AoE, then adapted my warrior to do the job. I find it important to have a sup vigor and sup absorption on my Gladiator armor for least amount of damage and most amount of energy...besides the gladiators armor provides the most armor for the type of damage the ettins do. Also a must is a shield with -2 damage while enchanted. I first started with axe skills...just for the fact of vigourous spirit and cyclone....oh and disrupting chop that not only blocks their healing..but disables it for 20 seconds..no other warrior blocking skill disables like that. .......with that note though I got bored with the same build and just came up with this sword build the other day..and it does seem to work. Don't even need any healing skills other then mending with Victory is mine! I might throw in a disruptping skill, so it's not set in stone yet. Also note that I think it is imparative that you put 16 points into what ever weapon you choose to use....it does lots more damage that way..and you only need 8 in healing prayers anyways. I also have 2 computers running at the same time and bring my Ranger along for an "escort". I run my warrior to the North Kryta province zoning spot(near the area you pick up farmer Dirks prize winning pig quest). Then I work my way North til i get to the last of the ettins near the ocean side..then grab my ranger and zone over to Nebo..kill all ettins there then reazone with ranger back to North Kryta...do this over and over..saves time and you have more chances of getting gold sup Ettin pauldrins.
OK..now that i've shared my secrets tell me your opinions and questions....

In my guild i was know as the ettin farmer. I 3 weeks i farmed almst 1 million in gold in runes from the ascolone settlement. In my 3 weeks i got 30 some sup monk runes 10 sup vigor runes and 2 sup absoorbtion runes. Plus some black dye and some good mods from gold drops. I used an easy skill set.
1. healing breeze
2.sprint to run from hotsprings to settlement
3 bonetties def. i would cast dolyaks sig then healing breeze then bonetties you can heal do dmg without skills avoid attacks and not get knocked down.
4. cyclone ax best farming skill in the game
5 executioners strike
6. ax rake to add weakness from eviscreate
7. eviscreate
8 dolyaks
my skills was set at
healing 9
strenthh 11
ax mastery 10
tactics 10
i have found ettins dont give out much anymore so gave up on them.
but my skill set let me take on up to 8 or 9. you just have to cast you skills right. if you cast bonetties then something right after you lose bonetties. but if you cast you attack skills then dolyaks then healing breeze then bonetties you get dmg def healing and energy regen and cant be knocked down. work with it i hope this helps it is my 1st post so gl.

Ih opinion just run from nebos to the zone on the way to gates of kryta then bqack in.

i ment 1 million in gold enought to buy razorstone 61 ectos and lots more.
Kegman
after the patch today i got 1 purple on 2 runs
Meric Hellhammer
I must be pretty lucky in maybe 2 or 3 months of farming ettins i have gotten 2 sup absorbs 1 sup vigor 3 sup monk runes along with various others, and 2 black dyes( those were froms scales though). But i have certainly noticed the quality of drops falling. I remember when i first started i would get almost all purple or gold ettin pauldrons and maybe some gold or ettin hide. But now its just the opposite, its rare that i get purple or gold ettin pauldrons.
edit: just a word to oly dog why would u use VIM with only one condition skill and blocking skills aren't really very good against ettins because of irresistible blow. So i would say to get rid of riposte and put in gash to get more out of VIM u could even use hamstring just for one more condition and a lot more hp and +5 energy. And instead of sprint use distracting blow( i think thats what its called) to prevent them from using heal sig.

has this been nerfed?
Divinus Stella
The screenshots say it all really, first one just as i finished aggroing the ettins, second one 15 seconds later.
Wammo farming is too slow, bit outdated, basically you can take on as many ettins as you can aggro within 15seconds with this, then move onto the next, if anyone has any ideas for improvement on the build done hesitate to tell me.

Ettin farming is still good, in fact i owe to to getting my ids. Over my hours of farming it, i have gotten crap loads of vigor(2, or 3 sups) lots of warrior, and a few ranger.
Thrawn Foxheed
Resolve Trapper works wonders =P
Went last week for 10 min run when bored, pulled sup. smiting and sup. vigor.
Went today to show a friend, pulled another Sup. Vigor, i'm happy to say the least.

Last night I went out there for the first time. I did 4 runs pulled 5 major ranger runes (4 of them Beast mastery), 2 major monk (Divine and Smiting) runes, 1 superior vigor, 2 major vigor, and 2 Major Warrior (2 Hammer) runes. I thought it was a great 5 runs, so I decided to bring a friend with to farm and the drops went down. We had maybe 4 runes on 2 runs (I dont remember what they were)
This thread was very informative. So I dont think I will be doing much more griffon/hydra farming much more. I used a couple of the builds but I do have to say the sword with 100 blades worked a lot better than my axe.
