I'm looking into a new laptop, but I want one I can play GW on. I'm tight for money and I need to make a decision, so I thought I'd ask you guys what you thought would run better.
Basically, I've got a choice between 512 MB PC3200 DDR400 Corsair XMS notebook memory and 1 GB PC3200 DDR400 of "a standard major brand", which I'm taking as meaning just generic. What I'm wanting to know is if the 512 MB of XMS would be better than having 1 GB of a standard generic brand, or the other way around. Any ideas?

i recently bought myself a new laptop to be able to carry a pc with me to my room in university.
it's a Dell laptop (inspiron 9300) with 1 gig of DDR2 RAM running at 533mhz (bought it during one of those "double your memory" actions, so it was quite cheap)
i can easely run GW at high settings and keep it running in the background while checking other stuff (it's actually running atm)
make sure you have a good graphics card and a good CPU (i have an intel centrino 1.7 and an Nvidia 6800 go with 256mb memory) and you'll be able to enjoy GW at maximum graphical quality.
now to answer your question : i'd rather go for regular brand RAM but DDR2 PC4200 or so then picking lower speed corsair. 512MB or 1gig is completely up to your preference, if you know you multitask a lot (like me, i usually have mp3's playing, a couple of browser windows open, some graphic program like PS7 and IR, and GW) you might wanna settle for 1 gig, otherwise 512MB of high speed RAM will do

Pharoke
Go for the xtra 1GB standard. Just because it is Corsair doesn't mean anything. Probably has the same samsung chips that the other has. the standard major brand could be pny or kingston which both make perfectly good memory.
