How old it is isn't the point, more of an age of hardware point-of-view... GW maybe be different but most games tend to run worse in Windowed Mode.

If you don't know what I referring to, you must never have played a large 3D game in windows mode.

NOW BACK ON TOPIC PLEASE...

Needless to say ALT+TABBING and Windowed Mode is a easy solution, but I'm sure programing in a simple clock is better in the long term.

You know, if you ever find yourself wondering what time it is, I would say it is time to buy a watch.

Maybe so, but that hans't added to the thread now has it? Almost every MMOnline Game I've played as a clock or timer of somesort.

ahh Sartre...

anywho, all good suggestions. Sure i could put a clock in the room (as i noted), wear a watch, or Alt-Tab (hey, never thought it would work as so many games misbehave, but cool to know!), but again, i'm just mentioning the "cool factor" of being able to (as in WoW) roll my mouse over the map and see my local time, maybe just pulled from my rig or a server or whatever.

As Mallich said, this was actually one of the few things i saw in WoW that made me go "Wow...why doesn't EVERY game have this?!". heck, even if it could be incorporated as a timestamp feature for chat...i dunno. Seems fairly easy, but if it's not added, then here's to hoping some sort of GuildWars Alternate UI (like Cosmos for WoW) will add some sort of functionality like this.

It has, actually, much more so than your own post, although apparently my point has gone over your head.

Now there's a silly reason to do something. Would you like a list of things that GW does differently from almost every other online game? It's a huge list. Merely pointing out that others do things differently does not constitute anything even remotely close to a sensible argument.

Because it's non-immersive. In fact, quite the opposite. In an MMORPG where game time follows real time, it makes sense. In a game like GW, it doesn't -- it pulls you away from the illusion.

There's a reason why you don't usually find clocks on the wall in a casino, too. Pretty close to the same reason, actually. It detracts from the experience of being in "another world" of sorts. Since GW doesn't make more money the longer you stay in, unlike a casino, there's no profit motive here, it's simply the desire to not constantly spoil the illusion.

The on-screen clock could be added without bothering those who want to immerse themselves so deeply into the world of the game without those unpleasant reminders of reality, such as waking up a spouse as you climb into bed at 2 a.m., going to work/school on 3 hours of sleep, etc.

Make the clock optional, just like all the other info screens.

I don't really see that much of a point in it, but as long as you can turn it off I can't see it doing any harm. So, why are people jumping all over it and insulting it?

Personally, any little tweak like this that doesn't affect the gameplay and balance, that you have the option to use or not, I can't really see a problem in, so I'm all for it.

After all, if it won't affect your gameplay experience at all, why not something to help other people out?

I agree, if you can turn it off, it doesn't do any harm. Other than the fact that you're now asking the developers to solve a problem for you that you can easily solve yourself with something a simple as a watch, or a cheap desk clock.

I just find it amusing when people whine to developers to solve problems they can already, easily solve themselves. My clock, my watch, my cellphone, my PDA, good grief it seems like everything I own has a clock on it. Does anyone really need yet another clock? Can't we find something actually useful for the devs to go work on?

Yeah, not like the incredibly immersive feel and sense of being in "another world" that macros like dancing and rock/paper/scissors add to the game...

I think a clock would be a nice feature, yes getting a desk clock would solve it... but some people are too lazy to actully go buy one =P
They can have another check box in the options menu asking if you want the clock to appear when you mouse over the map, and also if they do put it in, as someone stated earlier, knowing how long youv been online would be nice, they could put that under the time like:
[Time]
[How long youv been playing]
I think that would be nice... or just type /time and it tells you that in the chat box, ether or, I think its a good idea.

That is possibly the most negative reply I've ever seen. Most your posts seem to be you complaining about anything people say. Needless to say your high post count doesn't make you a know it all.

GW doesn't "pull me into another world" its a Hack and Slash game, and with few direct Role play elements doesn't really allow me to join "another" world so to speak. Only game that's done that for me was UO years ago.

Most people agree a very basic time/gametime timer would be handy and easy to implement, and yes it would be easy to element. So lets see some more positive.

Windowed mode, and alt+tab works like a true windows program should. Not like say.........EverQuest and some other games that would cause you to crash.

Just bumping this - I was about to start a new thread, but figured it'd be covered to death by now.

I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult for them to add, but I'd like to see a /time or /clock print the following:

Real time: Wed. 6-8-2005 11:47 a.m. PST, Mouvelian time: Day 43, 1072 AE, Zephyr Season, Air Alignment

I mean, there IS a Mouvelian calendar in the game manual, after all, and I'd like to see it play a part in the actual game as well - so not only would we know when it is in our game time, we'd know real life time without having to look away or reach for your clock, whatever..

Plus maybe later one day, the devs can implement quests available only during the Zephyr season for example, etc.

my pc is ancient (2 years... lol, that's almost prehistoric) and windowed mode means super slow for everything... when in windowed mode surfing the net is like trying to play the newest cutting edge game as far as lag and such...

I would welcome an ingame clock (especially one that had GW time and your local time as was mentioned).

They already do this, for example, Riverside Province is only playable at night (game time).

Do keep in mind that there's no "game time" ongoing like there would be in an MMORPG. For some people, it's two years ago relative to others. Your current "game time" depends on where you are, and it's always that time at that location, since that's the time that the event in question occurs in the overall story.

lol, my first run through PvE pickup groups had me going on foot to all these crazy locations and I did all the missions out of order. I rescued people I had earlier killed, delivered secret messages to folks I already knew where spies... surreal...
