I've heard, that after you complete the desert missions, you automatically reach lvl 20.
This is a very bad idea.
Why you ask?
Well, AFAIK, you still gain "levels" at lvl 20, only for skill points.
So what if someone completed all quests and missions+bonuses up to the "ascention quests"?
Then he would have lost all that XP from quests, which could be used to gain skillpoints.
So actually, to get most out of your XP, you have to rush through missions up to and including "ascention".
That will in turn encourage people to rush other people, thus bringing elements into the game ANet doesn't want to be there.
Please look into this problem.

Ascention Quests: Wrong Take on Leveling *KINDA SPOILERS*

After being to the desert i think it would be extremely hard to not be level 20 before you finish the ascension quests. I went from 17 to 19 and a half just travelling from the desert to the first Ascension mission and i was rushed there.
And with all the mobs that pop out of the ground its not so easy to covertly get from town to town without getting exp on the way.

I know, but think about it.
I complete ALLL the quests, so I get quite high in levels too. 16.5 in Gates of Kryta.
But I do so to unlock every skill.
Now, that way, I'm level 20 when I reach the desert for sure.
However, if I were level 10, and automatically jumped to lvl 20, I would have spared the quests I didn't do (since I'm only lvl 10, I didn't do any quests), and still gain the xp to level 20. Then I could go back, and do the quests I skipped, and gain "lvl 21" much easier than my other perfectionist char.
This is a flaw in the system IMO.
They could fix it by perhaps giving the character a 50k xp boost or something?
Or maybe another solution?

If someone actually manages to get Ascended at level 10, he deserves to be level 20 for doing all the stupid crap necessary to keep one's level that low and somehow passing that final challenge.
The other thing is that completing all the lower level quests at level 20 means you'll get no XP from the hordes of monsters you have to plow through that you would have gotten XP for had you done the quest at the right level instead. Would you (or most people) be willing to do this just for the sake of the relatively small XP rewards that most quests give? I'd rather quest early, enjoy it, get XP and other stuff of actual value from it at the time.
