Questions on 'crits'
WolfpackEE
I've been searching the forums on information about crits but have been unsuccessful, so I thought I would post a couple questions here.
What value is used to determine if a crit occurs? Is it just a random roll? Is there a way to increase the frequency of crits? (Note; I did see one where the Wild Blow by the Warrior causes a 100% of a crit, but didn't see any others)
When a crit hits (for example a damage crit) how much additional damage is done? Can that number be modified in any way?
TIA

Critical Hits Every time you strike a foe with a weapon of any sort you have a chance of landing a critical hit. Each critical hit strikes for maximum damage, with the additional bonus of hitting as though your weapon attribute were four levels higher. I'd be breaking form if I didn't list an equation, so here you go: [Effective Damage] = [Max Weapon Damage] × 2(( 5 × [Attribute Level] - 40 ) / 40) This translates into each critical strike dealing 141% of your maximum weapon damage, every time. Every critical hit with a customized top (6-28) axe and a level 12 Axe Mastery will deal: 28 × 1.20 × 2(( 5 × 12 - 40 ) / 40) = 47.5 damage per critical The frequency with which you will land a critical hit is dependent upon several factors - your character level, the level of the victim, and, if you're using a sword, axe, or hammer, the appropriate attribute level. The exact formula for landing a critical chance is unknown, and due to it being a matter of statistical analysis it is rather difficult to test. In rough terms, your chance of landing a critical hit against a foe of comparable level with a level 12 weapon mastery is roughly 20% - if you're a level 20 character beating up on level 1 targets with a level 12 weapon mastery, your critical chance is very close to 100%. |

Ah...the one place I didn't check, the online guides
Thanks, that's exactly what I'm looking for.
Great site!

After reading through the combat guide, I had another question. The guide talks about crits with weapons. Do spells have crits? Do they use the the same formula>
Thx

No, spells don't have crits. They do the number of damage that it says + or - some depending on the AL of the target. For example, lets say your Fireball does 94 damage (lvl 12 Fire Magic). On someone with lower than 60 AL or a weakness agasint Fire damage it would do more and on someone with higher than 60 AL or a bonus against Elemental damage it would do less.
IIRC the spells are balanced for 60 AL and lvl 20 characters.

Worth adding is that you always hit criticals on running targets.
BlackArrow
I never knew that. Is that because you hit them in the back (running away) or just because the're running?
Nash
It's when they're moving, simply.
Found the exact quote:
The most important thing to remember here is that critical hits are calculated off of the max damage rather than the average. This means that using an ax against an opponent thats running will take significantly more damage than they will from sword. (Running causes each hit to be a crit).

I have seen my lightning orb do 200 damage on occasion. I don’t think it’s a crit per say because most of the time it has happened it hits someone as they are dieing. So yeah i have seen some wierd damage but i dont think spells crit or atleast its extreamly rare and not based on movement.

Where did 1.2 come from?

Scaphism
Multiplying by 1.20 shows the extra 20% damage that using a customized weapon gives you.

Hrm, Im still a little lost. 20% should be represented by .20, not 1.2, which is equal to 120%. I do know that the actual equation is unknown, but this doesn't seem to be accurate.
Sausaletus Rex
Multiplying by .20 would give you 20% of the weapon's damage. You want 20% plus the original damage. Hence, x1.2. Or 100%, the original damage with the addition of the 20% you get from customization.
