Armor tips?

Okay, so I've got my 14 N/W (of the blood variety) in Borlis Pass right now. I'm wearing a full suit of AL 30 bonelace armor. And I'm wondering now what items I should be saving up in order to craft my new armor.

Is the +15 against piercing attacks still important at LA or would it be better to go with Necrotic armor at an AL of 40? Anyone have suggestions for this?

Thanks!

Or save your wood and feathers and go for the scarmour in Beetletun. Don't bother buying armour in LA, since you can buy 10-point better AL armour in Beetletun (Scars, Necrotic, Necromancer's) or Bergen Hot Springs (Bonelace, Fanatic's, Necromancer's). Go for the scars if you want energy, or the Bonelace/Fanatic's otherwise, IMO - the piercing bonus > the general 10 points from Necrotic (the vulnerability to Holy won't be an issue until the Southern Shiverpeaks, really). Lots and lots of skeleton rangers around Kryta....

Ah, excellent, thanks! I'm not sure what my priorities are really. I'm N/W right now, but I'm starting to think that N/Me might be a better route to go so I'll probably want the energy bonus down the road. Scar patterns would be the best for that, I imagine. But as long as I'm a N/W currently, I think I may go for the Fanatic's Armor in Bergen Hot Springs next.

Thanks for the tips!

Happy to help - I just went through the options a little while ago when my own Necro arrived in the area, so it's still fresh . I ended up going with the Beetletun scars and kept them until I got to the Forge (the hard way, not getting run).

One last tip: while they have identical stats, Bonelace is significantly cheaper than Fanatic's in terms of materials: BL requires, well, bones, while Fanatic's requires rare leather squares; both require the same number of hides. On the upside, there's an artisan in the area to make squares for you, and the Ettins in NKP/Nebo Terrace are an excellent source of both hides and squares (if you use an expert salvage kit on their hides/humps/pauldrons).

True on the leather squares front. I was wondering that...I was thinking I'd just wail on centaurs all day long outside the gates of Borlis Pass to pick those up. But it may take a while. I guess bones will be easy to come by once I get to Kryta.

Another option is to wait a bit and get the "free" collectors armor in the jungle. No bonuses but the base armor is 51 for caster classes.

That's really just doing the Seaboard + Divinity missions to get to Druids where you can start collecting/buying items for the collectors.

You lost me there. If I keep doing the main missions to get to the jungles I'll be able to get the collector's version of the armor?

there are armours but the collectors armour are regular with no special bonus to it. like they just give armor and give no benefits like bonelace gives more armour against piercing, tatoos wich give energy, and tormentors wich give more armor but u take more dmg from holy dmg.
to tell u the truth i say save ur money and dont buy armor wait till u get to amoon and get collectors then in droks buy armor. i know it might be tough doing missions with low lvl armor but the once u get this armor u dont need to buy anymore. I remember i needed lost of money and said screw im fine with my necro for now, but i kept dying so with the rest of my characters i went to yaks and bought armor just waited till droks to buy my last armor. but if u have the req and money for it now and dont care to buy later then go ahead.

If you keep doing the main missions, you'll end up in Druid's Overlook. Around this area are collectors who offers armor. The collector armors are a cheap alternative to getting armor from a crafter, as no materials or gold are needed, just the items required by the collector.

The collector armor will not have modifiers such as the Fanatic's or Bonelace's +15 AL vs Piercing, as it appears to be the basic Necromancer's Armor. However, at 51 AL, I don't think you can get a better or equivalent Necromancer's from crafters in nearby towns, so it should serve you well for a long time.

[Added:]

As for Fanatic's/Bonelace vs Necrotic/Tormentor's... I've now gone for Tormentor's... I'll loose the +15 AL vs Piercing but gain 10 AL overall. In effect, I'm only down by 5 AL against archers, but at least I'm up 10 AL against melee guys. Note, I've not come up against anyone using Holy dmg, but then again I can always run away!

Go to guildwiki and look up the collectors:

http://www.guildwiki.org/wiki/Main_Page

You will see that for free you can upgrade your armor in the jungle and then in the desert - which is equivalent to the basic Droknar's armor for each profession.

If you don't want to bother with a piece of the collectors, such as the legs which are fairly deep in The Falls, then perhaps those you buy at Amnoon Oasis.

This is my typical plan for armor:
Buy in Ascalon
Collectors in Jungle
Collectors in Desert
Buy what is needed/desired in Droknars *

* By this I mean that certain desert pieces are equivalent to what you buy in the Forge, especially head gear. You can't get specifics like Gladiators, Tattoos, Scars, Knights, etc from collectors. You can get specific bonus head pieces though - smiting, divine favor, etc.

Ah, yes! This is great! Thanks for all the tips guys! I think what I'll do is take the free route with the collectors in the jungle and desert. Once I get to Drok's I'll fill in any blanks that I deem necessary.

Much appreciated!!

EDIT: Wow! Guildwiki.org is fantastic....very detailed and associates information like I haven't seen a GW site do yet. Thanks for the tip!
