Whenever im in a graphics intense game, like UT2004, GW, or AOE3, it always stutters and takes a couple seconds before it gets back to windows when i use either alt tab, windows key+D , and the show desktop button.
I often have MSword, AIM, Itunes, and a game running, and they do run smooth together, but when switching from a game to one of them it takes some stuttering.
Now i know i have some decent specs:
Pentium 4 3.0ghz
1 gig pc3200 Ram
geforce 6800
Will upgrading to 2gig make switching programs easier?
anyone actually have 2gig and does it make a difference?
Alt Tab + Guild Wars

This has to do with the way Windows handles memory. It will move data from currently opened programs into your page file if they are not currently being used after a certain amount of time. Even if you had 500 gigs of RAM and only 128 MB was being used Windows would still do this. Do not disable your page file as some programs will whine if they can't find it.

What's your game resolution vs desktop resolution?
I was experiencing a similar problem months ago, and fixed it by making sure both resolutions were the same. I think Alt+Tabbing got hung up because of the required resolution switch.
