Open Beta/Demo Version?

Sorry if this has been answered already, but I didn't find it in the stickied FAQ and I haven't found any info it on several sites I've visited.

Basically, will there be an open beta/demo released? The game looks gorgeous and I like the overall vision of the game and philosophy of the developers, but I'm hesitant to plunk down a wad of cash on a game that I can't test/try first for more than 1-2 days.

Has there been any word of an open beta/demo version?

Well you missed out on the world preview event by a couple months but there is another way to check this game out without paying a wad of cash. Buy the preorder from your local software store for 10 bucks and play in this coming beta weekend event. Which is March 18th - 20th. If you don’t like it you don’t have to go pick up your order and you’re out $10 but if you like it your $10 goes toward your purchase.

I don't think there will be any open beta or demo between now and the release. I think the only way you can play is pre-ordering for like 10$ or getting a friend's pass

Bah, that kind of sucks...

I'd like to play it, but ideally, I'd play it with my college buddies (u know the whole team/guild element). Slim chance of getting them to play if there's no demo for them to lure them into it (and away from WoW, WC3 ).

As for $10 for the pre-order...$10 to play for 3 days on a *beta* game? I dunno, just feels lame, especially if the game ends up sucking like L2.

Thanks for the info.

Yeah, but the whole catch is that it goes towards your purchase for the retail version. And the pre-order key allows you to play in every beta weekend event and other goodies.

You have a point. But it's only valid if I like the game ;-)

I played L2 open beta for a week and I'm glad they had it...that game had major problems (lag, impossible to log on) and second-rate gameplay only 1 month from release.

On the other hand, BF1942 demo got me hooked on that game and I fell in love with the game after playing the demo for a week or two. Ended up buying it and spent lots of hours playing it.

I'm pretty reluctant to spend $ on a game without playing it first. Would you buy a car without test driving it? Would you marry a woman without dating her for a while first? Would you buy a house sight unseen? I dunno....I may end up spending the $10, but I don't think my buds will do it, which is the sucky part.

If you buy the game, just let your friends play it on your account to test it?

or you can pre-order from EB for like 5 bucks. Play on the next two weekends. If you like the game, great. If not, you can just transfer the pre-order to another game.

I didn't read it on the page but there's one more thing to consider, the pre-order also includes a friends pass, this means two people can create an account for the the game not just one. Only the original account will get the "special Item" if you do decide to buy the game.
