Did I miss the main quest?

I'm going to try not to be too much of a newbie. I'm a lvl3 ranger with a warrior second class. I only did two of the archer improvement trials. I'm just doing quests for Donna (Deyna? Donoma?) in the town southwest of Ascalon (starts with Ash), but what happened to the main quest?

The king says to me, "we are about to head into a seige", but i don't know if i'm supposed to do that until i'm ready. Should I do that now? Or should i build up stats?

Pre-seared Ascalon (where you are right now) is kinda like a "Tutorial". So for your main "quest", that becomes missions when you leave this area. You do this by talking to Sir Tydus and going into the Academy.

That said, I would recommend that you stay in Pre-Seared till you're about level 7.
