Quick and dirty, double speed vid. Nothing special or unique, just linking for those interested. I did have a 6 pack (2 3-packs) as a finale but I wasn't recording. It went well but the last 2 took a while as the kept moving off and returning at an odd pace, throwing off my TD use.

Trap Ranger Ettin Run vid

Does this take you longer or shorter than the normal trapping method?
(Most people just sit up about 30-40 secs worth of traps to kill the Ettins so they dont even have to factor in healing sig).
The normal way, you have to sit there for about 40-50 secs but the fight is over almost instantly, where here you just sort of run in,but take 1 at a time basically.

I am pretty sure it works out about the same. The only time I would care to sit to lay 2-3 sets of traps stacked would be when facing 5+ ettins at once.
Overall the Necro MM is faster, IMO. Fastest yet of all the Ettin builds I have tried, except for the pre-nerf to AoE Smite Monk.
I was only trying the Ranger out to see if she got much xp for the ettins, I don't like grinding away on minos but the Ettins aren't worth the trouble for a trap build. Necro is just to quick, easy and relatively headache free.
[edit]
Actually do you have an example of what you are talking about, since the AoE nerf? Without Oath Shot you are gonna need a hell of alot more than 30-40 seconds worth of traps to kill them since they roam out when the first AoE set hits and heal. No TD, no oath shot and no distracting? I would bet that takes a hell of alot longer. It has been discussed in several forums and I haven't seen anything like you mention, nor from experience does it seem possible or practical. Not only this but the way the server bugs out some times you can't even lead them into your traps, thus I often have to lay traps at their feet to even begin.

Well I tried Trap Stacking and I must say....it ain't so hot for Ettins. I altered my build, dropped Oath Shot for Spike Trap. I stacked 3 sets of 4 traps and pulled them in. On rare occassions 1 might die and 1 might be severly damaged. The issue with Ettins and trap stacking are:
1. Endure Pain, immediately used.
2. They immediately leave the trap bed due to the anti-AoE AI, thus they do not get all pulses of the traps.
3. Lynx can make it a huge waste of time either killing them, or if you don't them blowing your traps. This was why I preferred 1 set of traps, lure, more traps.
Not only do I think I didn't kill any faster in the duration of a sweep the build lacked the one skill I consider critical and that makes the Ettin Trapper far more flexible: Oath Shot. If something goes wrong Oath Shot is invaluable. Believe me this run has alot of variables, this isn't 3 fat Aatxe sitting in one spot. The Ettins roam in a wide area, the server and AI have glitches many times where you can't pull ettins, they aren't really where they appear to be.
If you were to stack 4 layers of traps and pull them and they enter them perfectly and use their skills at the same time you might be able to kill up to 3 off at once. This is alot of time and alot of mights for me. My version works just dandy.

I dont know about you, But I sit up EW, and QZ (10 secs), put up serpent, and sit traps until QZ wears off (~40 secs at my Wilderness lvl) (thats..3..maybe 4 sets of traps). Thats like 50 secs, with all the spirit settting up and everything included.
And I Barely EVER have a ettin survive the initial trap setting off (They die instantly almost, never have time to even run out and healing sig) - and If 1 does "lag" and not come on the setoff, then an additional flame trap, or me wanding him kills him before his healing sig even finishes most of the time.
Lynx is not a problem..because you just pick your trap spot good, or just kill any neighbering lynx to your spot (lay a flame and barb trap, and lure the lynx to you..boom..its dead..).
Using a bow and "hoping" they dont hit through blind...I see that as the "iffy" situation...You have to interupt their healing sig..You have to hope they dont get hits through blind..and so on.
But I guess its what works. Who are we to say the others does not work...

But I guess its what works. Who are we to say the others does not work... Make a video of a single sweep, as it happens please. I don't have to hope nothing, if they hit through blind I keep chugging along with Oath Shot. The Lynx take a long time to kill with zero or low marks, this much I know first hand. I totally fail to agree with your summation of how well your version works, basically you just own your way around. I would like to see a legitimate complete run. In my video I included the entire run, just cut out the pauses I had in game. Any mistakes I made, any hits through blind, etc., are all there to be seen.

Computer Sucks - So my video quality is nothing :\
I tryed your build - and indeed, its faster, by a few minutes. But MUCH more risky cuase you have to keep tabs on so many things. Biggest thing was Energy though :\ Even with my Expertise at 14 for the run, If the ettins got through with a hit on one of your traps, or if they took alittle too much time coming back from AoE Running so survived altitle longer, you were screwed energy wise. Tryed with and without Zealous bow. (They also broke through my traps more than twice, like in your video).
I think I'll alternate. Both builds really become less effective with more than 3 Ettins at a time. (My Build might not catch the last ones, and your Build - I tryed taking 5 ettins, and got more traps canceled than I'd like to to have had, plus getting them all with TD was tricky). One thing you seem to forget about is Oath Shot is no where near Spammable..

1. I am NO elite Ranger player. It is my weakest class, though I am decent (PvE wise, okay PvP in small arena).
2. Not chest thumping, isn't my bag. However I just couldn't see how you could blast them away in one trap pit due to the way they move, the Lynx factor, the Lag Jumping factor, etc.
3. My vid was made purely for anyone who either didn't know what a Ettin Run was about or needed some idea on a build.
I don't need a spammable oath shot. I have taken 6 ettins with no problems, the last 2 were a bit tricky because they constantly moved around and I blew a distracting shot. In fact on the reverse trip on the run I was making the video on I got the 2 packs of 3 at once, and I thought I was recording, but discovered I had stopped.
I am an Expertise junky. 16 expertise for me on most non-spike builds.
About the other comment on using a bow Ranger, nothing wrong with it. I have seen bow versions, I wanted a trap version. :-)
