Displaying Other Player's/Monster's Damage Numbers
lord_shar
I ran a search for this topic but came up empty, so here we go...
Is it possible to see the damage numbers being produced by other players or monsters? If so, how? If not, can it be added as a toggled feature?
I for one would like to see how hard other teammates or opponents really hit. Other MMORPG's like Everquest, WoW, etc... all allow players to see the damage numbers of other players and monsters... why not GW as well? At the moment, all I can see is how much damage my toon does. I can't see other damage outputs. I want to be able to tell which character or monster is a bigger numeric hitter by visual proximity.
Yes, displaying all damage numbers will increase game spam, but I also believe it will add more interaction to the game. Without baseline numbers and metrics to compare against, the attack animations with numbers only you can see get boring very quickly. I want to know that the tank or mage next to me is hitting for 100+ dmg, instead of going through the motions for only 2 damage a strike.

Might get spammy, especially with Iways, and with the degens, I would hate to see a lot of -1 pop up all the time, but it could be nice. They should try and not get a very vivid color for it, but something like dark-grey, or a faint brownish, something that won't impose too much on the screen.
The tank won't be hitting 100+ dmg, since he's a meatshield, basically, so he will be taking the damage.

I kinda agree... It would be useful to compare you're damage to others. It'll be just like with two primary ele's showing their energy and comparing... I think being able to see the actual amount of health a player or monster has would be very useful... especially for monks.

1 - all melee/missle damage
2 - all elemental damage
3 - all spell direct or AoE damage
4 - all drained or added energy
5 - all health gained from healing
More numbers = better game information

Display:
[ ] my attacks / damage / healing
[ ] my energy gain / loss
[ ] allied attacks / damage / healing
[ ] allied energy gain / loss
[ ] enemy attacks / damage / healing
[ ] enemy energy gain / loss
i love options

I hope the dev's actually read this... it would be a very nice upgrade!

Sorry for if i am reviving this thread, but I think this would a great idea!
Because sometimes when you are playing with a group of people, you want to get an idea of the damage range of the players you are playing with (so you know who to help the your team mates or to see how long a monster will take to die because you see the amount damage done to them etc) without always paying attention to the monsters health bar.
And sometimes it might help in discussion to help eachother as well!
(ie, if i am good at a warrior and i have some techniques or tips etc. and i play with another warrior who i see isn't effective or doing the correct amount of damage, then i can offer tips or help etc)

I don't see what point there is in being able to see other people's damage. The most common use of this feature would be for e-peen contests, which by itself is enough reason against implementation.

I am relatively new to this game (loving every moment so far! ) so I don't quite know how the PVP part of the game works yet.
But I thought it would have been neat for PVE when you have to play as a team with people!

How would seeing 153 yellow, 59 blue and 145 red numbers every second help you understand what's going on? It doesn't tell you who's doing the damage or how much. All you see are the target numbers.
Besides, you always know how much damage someone is doing. If you're running with fire nuker, ask them how high their fire magic is. If with SS, ask about curses. That tells you everything. Unlike most other games, where leet items determine your damage output, here everyone does the same damage that's defined by build.
In 95% of the cases, these tips look like this: "OMFG NUB WAMMO /ragequit"
And if you do offer useful tip, the response you get in 95% cases is "OMFG STFU NUB IM WAMMO /ragequit"
Warriors will be dealing damage based on their skills. If you see a warrior running with flare and firestorm, that's enough of an indication of problems with the build.
Besides, why do these topics always get brought up in relation to warriors or assassins? Warriors do nice damage - but in PvE, AoE is still the king and in domain of casters.

Maybe there should be a separate menu for "party damage"
If the numbers were on the main screen.. well that would make farming impossible and make the game overly hard, seeing that you cant recognize anything because the screens is overrun with -2's

I think this idea would be a case of "too much information". Really, it would be useless in any practical manner.
Sure, a combat log with detailed entries for every player, mob, friend or foe in the area might have some use because you could scroll back...but this would also go against a game design concept I think.
Looking at skill monitors, noticing special video effects and practicing good tactics are the best way to navigate in a battle. It makes for a more action based encounter, IMO.

yeah would get too spammy and isn't that necessary.
however i like the idea of a toggle option for it, wouldn't do any harm.
especially if you could have a toggle for only really high damage, which could be interesting :P
like in warcraft III when it comes up with 1000! in red or something if you get a critical hit
