Lord Mendes
I am so pissed lol
i was farming grifs and i got a gold rams hammer (non-max of course)
i identify it and it has 5:1 vamp and emchant last 20 percent longer
i later expert salvage it to get 5 WOOD PLANKS
does this always happen to u or is this uncommon cuz its maybe the third time this happens to me this week

Its pot luck i think whether you get either of the upgrade components or the usual salvage stuff.
Guess you've just been unlucky!

Yah, I lost a 10/10 sundering string and a +29 hp mod for 11 wood planks. The bow was 16<50 so its better to salvage the mod.
KANE OG
I had a 4 -1 Vampiric Hammer +15% vs Dwarves. Which grip do you think I got out of it? LOL!
dont feel no pain
U know u should have salvage menu like....
choice of what to salvage
1 of the mods or materials and highly salvageable = triple matirials

Absolute worst for me was finding a superior absorption and getting 3 steel.
I tried to sell the 3 steel for 95K, but no one bit.

to be honest im often tempting just to sell non-max stuff with awesome mods unsalvaged; at least that way you can walk away with some cash. Its worth the risk for rich people.

Deadlyjunk
Happens a lot... lost 20% enchanting pommel, +30 hp axe grip, warding +7... amongst others...
Maybe a 'Mod Salvage Kit', that only salvages mods?

well they were hammer mods and would have sold for max 15k
ON THE BRIGHT SIDE wood plank prices r goin up,
AND if i invest 20 gold in those planks i could get a roll of parchment (worth 80 gold !!)
my bad luck i guess

I found a gold bow with 5:1 vamp component, then salvaged it and all I got was wood planks =/
It would be kind've nice if Anet created a salvage kit for upgraded components only. If you have more than one upgrade component on the item, you can choose which upgrade you want to salvage.

you win some and you lose some ...
In my early days of solo farming (before the update) I IDed 3 Sup Vigor runes and lost them all to expert salvage. (Later they changed that aspect of the game).

So I started to sell my un-IDed runes and .... guess what? Yep. One of the runes I sold was another Sup Vigor ... and the guy who bought it salvaged it out successfully ... I knew he wasn't joking with me because he was so excited he bought up the rest of my un IDed runes immediately.

Why guarantee a mod salvage?
Wheres the fun in that?
Then all mods become like 2K, as none are ver lost or destroyed or reverted to iron/wood/dust/cloth/etc/etc
I ahve to admoit though, the nauseating thump hurts when a superior rune is salvaged into materials.

Someone told me that if there are two mods on a weapon, you cannot salvage the upgrades. You can only do it if there is one mod. So far, it seems to be true for me.
Lord Mendes
nope.
u can salvage one of the two mods
40 percent chance u get first mod
40 percent chance u get second mod
20 percent chance u get wood/iron etc

It would be good to have a really difficult town to get to (one that you can't just travel to once you have been there a bit like ascalon settlement) that there is a smith working there that can break down your items so you can choose the mod you want. They get a big payout from you to do it and they also keep the unwanted items from the breakdown.
A slightly related question! If I had another axe grip for instance and I try to put it on an axe which has one already, do you get the old grip back?
I too have salvaged non max items for their good mods but have walked away with wood or iron, I did get one steel once.
I still salvage a lot of stuff just in case I drop lucky, I have had a few grips that have brought in some money etc..
I think I am just a little too generous at times, letting stuff go at pretty cheap prices. But they sell pretty quickly and I don't have to hang around on street corners selling my wares. I'm not hung up on making loads of money, which is a good job really as I hardly ever have more than 1.2k. I sell enough just to buy more keys etc..
I am just casually working my way through the game going for the quests and missions only at the moment with Henchies. Once I complete (can you ever really complete this game?) I will then go back and start fully exploring areas I had problems getting through.

Worst for me was salvaging a 10/10 Sundering Fellblade of Pruning. At least the person who bought the pommel of pruning can have fun killing them damn healing shrub things (Crown of Thorns, etc).
Vhayr
sabretalon, you don't get the old grip/rune/haft/string/whatever back, which sucks IMO.

Runes can come off pieces of armor. The worse i got was a rare icy ivory bow of fortitude(+30 health!!!), slavage.... and well you can guess what i got since i posted it in this thread...
Lord Mendes
OUCH!!!
non-max battlepick of enchanting (20 percent). 9 wood planks!!
that salvage would have made me 150k richer!
