I'm currently the guild leader of The Council of Tyria - you may have noticed us by our extremely fruity capes (black with pink flowers). Anyhow. I'm currently trying to get a Sigil but I don't really want to buy one, I'd rather win the HoH to get it. How exactly do we get to the HoH? Is it in Lion's Arch? We are all a bit confused as to how the we can PvP as a guild. The arena's seem to be completely random and we never get to play with each other in them...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hall of Heroes is located in Tombs.. I haven't been there through RP yet, but I did it during PvP in the betas. You go through three rounds of Tombs first (against mobs, against a team, then against I think 5 teams) -- if you win all three, then you move onto HoH..
While the other arenas you've come across are random, you can select your team in Tombs.

I have to be brutally honest here, and this is most likely going to seem off topic. I have 4 warnings left, sue me....
I have read so much about this sigil BS that I am almost resigned to avoid it altogether and just quest PVE and arena now and again. Between all the horror tales of how hard the quest is, to people being unable to connect to HOH at all as of yesterday (as I read about it), to the moron from N. Korea standing in some place selling access to the sigils, I am starting to really not care. this is literally the 12th thread I have seen here about this. Enough already!

Yeah. If you enter the pvp area called the tombs, which is in the desert, you play a tournament style set up of matches, from relic capture to just all out fighting. Eventually, once you get to the end, The Hall of heros, Every time you win a chest opens revealing a celestial sigil and another item. i think the item is a weapon, but its supposedly random.
Note, this is hard, and americans and koreans will savour your blood with malicious eyes filled with malevolent fury.... Not the europeans, cuz we are crap at tombs (compared to korea and america, apart from teh asylum, and ladder to hell) and its highly advised that everyone in your party is level 20. If your currently a low level PvE try making a pvp char.
EDIT:The number of matches you play changes. You normally start off against mobs, then to other things such as fighting etc. Though one time, my team got sent straight to the battle before HoH. Oh, and SOT, no wonder you have those warnings. He asked a question, and wanted an answer, not how bad you thought it was. And its up to the moderators if they think they have seen enough HoH topics, not you.

How many DO you need to win? I played with a team, beat mobs, beat 1v1, beat 6 team ffa (yoiks), then lost in a ctf match. Is it random, or what?

*SPOILER ALERT*
I have been to the tombs with a RP character, and it takes a while. (I did it the first 3 days nonstop). Lion's Arch is about the halfway point. From there, you walk west and get back onto the trail of missions (starting with Dlessio Seaboard I think). Then the missions leads you in a loop around to the Southeast portion of that continent. The final mission on that continent is Sanctum Cay. After Sanctum Cay, you travel to Anmoon Oasis (which is in the western portion of the desert). From there, you walk east to Augury Rock. Augury Rock is the center of the "Ascension Trials" if youve heard of them. All you have to do is get in a group and travel out in the desert to find the three missions which are not connected. After you clear all three of them, you go back to Augury Rock and talk to an NPC. He brings you to this area where you have to beat your "mirror self" (your mirror self uses whatever skills you bring with you, and uber weapons. many characters have to temporarily refund their attribute points to beat him. I had to on my healer monk). After you beat your mirror self, you instantly level up to level 20 and are teleported to the Dragon's Lair (another mission). In the Dragon's Lair mission starting area there is a zone portal to Tomb of Primeval Kings. So there is no way you can get to the Tombs without being level 20 in the first place, because you have to beat your mirror self which auto levels you to 20.
Once you're there... The group battles you need to win to get to the HoH is RANDOM, unless they changed it in the patch on wednesday which i seriously doubt they did. Your team could get to the HoH instantly or you may have to fight for hours (which my team did). When you get to the HoH, there are multiple other teams you have to beat to win. (If you have a good team, getting to the HoH is much harder and takes more patience than actually winning it). Once you win, two items drop on the center platform. One is the celestial sigil and another is a rare piece of equipment. (I saw a scroll drop when my team won). Both of those items are assigned to 2 random people in the party. Once you win the HoH, your team stays in the HoH and waits for the next few teams to reach it (you could wait up to 10-20 or maybe more minutes for other teams to enter).

Are there any other benefits to reaching the HoH besides the items? How does fame and rank help you?
d4nowar
you get to show off to your friends and to people in lion's arch by typing /rank. its a pretty cool effect if you ask me.
Shadowless
yea that and every time you increase in rank you gain a skill point
