saving every single gold coin i could i finally managed to get myself two peices of pretty 15k for my necro. damnit i need to salavage my runes from my old armor, but do i have a kit? noo... so i ask if anyone could lend me one, just for a few uses.
not only did this lovely player let me keep the salvage kit, but he also gave me 20k!!!
just thought i'd share the experiance with everyone, let them know there are some nice players, not everyone is out to scam you! and yes, if i ever have enough money to be some generous i will be, just because it was done to me.

Good To Know.
Myself, I have had alot of bad and good encounters. Guildwars has alot of good community members, but, unfortunately, quite a few bad people, also.

Most of my encounters involve random players messaging me with "Can you give me XXX plat?" However, I take the approach of the US Army that is called "Don't ask, don't tell ..." The player doesn't get to ask, and I don't get to tell the player "RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO RED ENGINE GO"

Yeah, I was in LA a while back, and Noticed a player wearing the alt ascalon armour that I soooo want, because I love the look of it.
I complimented him on the armor, and we got to talking, and he ended up giving me 5 plat to help me start saving up for the armour.
Needless to say, he's now on my friends list

On my first character.... I was level 20 by the time I got to Aurora Glade. I did every quest, every missions, and killed every monster I saw...
I was in LA one day trying to sell a shocking bow string for 20g, and this cool guy [who hasn't been online since] whispered me saying hed' give me 500 gold for it, I was shocked! 500g for this string I found? Sure, why not, I don't even know how to use it!
We get to talking and this guy ends up giving me a max, req 9 gold hammer! I was amazed by his ability to tell me the maximum damage on any weapon right when I asked....
And we got to talking, and he found out how I wasn't too far into the game. Needless to say, this good natured fellow helped me through aurora glade and all that and got me to the desert. I was so grateful, and was amazed by his level 20 dune lizard.. I'd never seen such a pet! Unfortunately he never signed on after that day, but he encouraged me to do all the kind deeds that I do..
Such as my [formally] bi-daily free runs from ascalon to sanctum cay to the desert, picking people up along the way, and then giving a full tour of the desert :-[
Edit: another act of kindness [more recent ^^]
I was sitting in augury rock, kind of bored... when suddenly a rank9'er spawned her tiger and started to spin in circles! it was quite funny, and I whispered her and we got to talking. I compliment her on her tiger, she compliments me on my 15k drakescale armor.
After a while, I finally looked at her tag and, taa-daa, she was a pRP member [I don't know why, but I really like this guild + seeing Lara Valor's name displayed when they take the hall...] after a while, the member I was talking to opens up my trade window and puts in a sigil!
I say immediatly 'hmm?' and she says it's for me.. I say I can't accept it, but she insists, saying she has a lot, so I accept... It was nice, and I whispered her a few times, but after about a week or so she stopped coming online :'(.
I would say names and all that, but I think nice people who do nice acts like that don't wanna be bombarded with 'HEYU WANNA GIEV ME SOEM GOLD PLZ' all the time.

I was chatting in Ascalon City (post-searing) to someone who was whining about not having any charr hides, and I told him I wish I had gold items, but I don't. Then someone offered me a gold bow, randomly. It was pretty cool.

So only nice players are the ones that give you money? Then you should pay it forward and give to someone else I guess.

Seen alll good people turn their heads each day so satisfied I'm on my wayyy...
I mean.. yeah, there are a lot of nice people out there. If I ever get some purp or gold with a mod I dont need, I just give it to somebody in Ascalon. I give anything that I think would take more than 2 minutes to sell away, because the trader would only give me a small amount for it anyways...

I was in Amnoon Oasis having just exchanged some seals for my monk prayer headband. Then I saw someone offering to sell a superior monk healing rune at the trader price (what he would have got by selling it to the trader) for 20k (back in the days when they were really expensive) - he said he wanted to sell at a good price for the community. I whispered him and he immediately lowered it to 19k. So I made the trade and felt very pleased.
Me: "Thanks for the great deal."
Ranger: "Yes, it was great for you because you gave me 19g".
*I check my inventory.*
Me: "Sh*t, sh*t - sorry."
*Run back to open trade window and offer 19k this time. Ranger closes window.*
Ranger: "No, you have it for free - getting this stuff is just a matter of time for me."
So I was essentially given 20k then as well. There are some really great people around on Guild Wars

Well I met nice people aswell, but people often become nice when they don't wanna play anymore. they give alot of godly stuff away, and then never comes online again. Very sad it is.

Surely the nicest people out there are those who spend their time helping people through the early missions with their lvl20s just for the hell of it (and not just to find charr hides).

When i first started out. 1st char...I told this ele she had a great looking guild cape and she gave me an invite, and helped me through pre-sear. Nice person. My current guild is made of some really awesome people willing to help with everything. And we have a tight cape.

I think I confused myself...
I have given away runes and gold items I did not need to my friends as people in the guild I am in, as well as other friends have given me things. I figure I should pass on the good deeds. An old friend of mine who hasn't been on in months used to spend his days running people to to droknar. He ran me to Grotto and then proceeded to give me 15k to get started on a set. Said to me it was nothing as he made 15k in an hour or so... it still takes me a good week...

To be honest, I never give away items that have great value. I mainly give away alot of minor/major runes, though.
I think i've given away 6k cash, once.

wow, this thread really makes me feel like a greedy jerk
I basically just give stuff to guildies, not so much to random people... and even then, rarely do I give $$$..
Perhaps I need an extra helping of Christmas cheer?

Well on guild wars I must say I am a pretty nice person, I give lots of stuff away. But lately it seems that when I give someone something they just keep asking for more, ex. I gave a guy 2k or sumthin in ascalon so he could buy a guild cape, then he kept on whispering me asking me to give him enough money to buy a hall. I am not going to stop being nice but people like this make me angry.
Bane of Mortality
I've had two really good experiences with nice people.
One time in the CA outpost there was a guy complaining about how much money he had, just to gloat. Jokingly, I told him I'd help him with his money problems. He didn't say anything but someone else just walked up and gave me 10 plat. That made my day.
The other awesome thing happened today. I made a new char to get a flute presearing for a guildie as a joke. When I got postsearing I needed fifty gold to open my storage. I asked if anyone could spare me it. Someone walked up to me and gave me about 6 plat and everything they owned. I managed to salvage a 19% Marksmanship +1 grip off of one of the bows they gave me too.
No, no. Life is more like a car speeding at a brick wall.
It's fun while it lasts, but its bound to end in a horrible explosion of pain.....or something like that.

Life is like a hot bath. It feels good while you're in it, but the longer you stay the more wrinkled you get.
As for being kind, I might go on on Christmas day and give away some of the stuff cluttering my storage. I have a bunch of Runes and Grips that I'm never going to sell...
The most I've ever been given is just some crafting material to help me buy armour.

When I first started playing GW I found a black dye. I pair up with a hroup of people doing piken missions and this guy told me he offer me 1k for my black dye. One of his friends whisper me and told me dont do it, you can get 3k from vendor. I got into talking with him and he helped on a lot of earlier missions and invited me to his guild.
On the other hand,I used to just want to get rid of some items and sometimes I trade 20k+ items for maybe 3k or something of that sort just because people need it the items badly enough. This was a couple of months ago, I dont farm too much anymore. Sometimes I just make a pre searing character lvl him/her up to lvl 10-12 and run people thru pre-searing just for the hell of it.

I never give anything away if asked, I get to know the player a little before I ever give anything away.
