Ok, I picked up a focus item today and equipped it. It increases my energy by +3. When it is eqipped in my shield slot it has the red circle with the line through it as if it will have not effect while my bow is equipped. Any ideas or am I just stupid?

A bow is a 2-handed weapon.. Unfortunately, you won't be able to use a focus and a bow together (same goes for a warhammer or staff).

Your bow is a two handed weapon. The focus like a shield is only useable with one handed weapons.

However, interestingly enough, you can "equip" it anyway. It appears with a red "no" circle, and doesn't actually work, but when so "equiped", it doesn't take up another inventory slot, which is kinda nice.

I found a focus item in pre-searing it's actually called "focus"...and it's worth 50 gold....why is it worth so much? It only gives energy plus 3. I have a Grim Cesta which looks the same and gives energy plus 5 and 4 to armor...and it's only worth 10 gold. Why is the focus worth so much?

It was probably a mission item reward OR an item you picked up from a collector. This happens throughout the game.

Mission item rewards sell for more money, but cannot be salvaged (but can be traded).
