As soon as I logged onto the game I liked the idea of being a ranger.. and then I went to fight a level one mob and it took me like a minute to kill the damn thing even using power shot...

I then tried to play an elementalist, Used some fire nukes and was dropping stuff real quick.. but it wasnt as fun as the ranger...

So here my questions. .. How viable is a R/E or a E/R and how would i go about doing it ?

Also... Would i be gimp for pvp? and how well would i get pve groups to level ?

Thanks..

There is very little way to 'gimp' yourself. At least not in any way that you can't fix easily. Just play the classes for a bit. That's part of what RP mode is for, letting people get comfortable with the class they want to play so that they can have a good time.

Oh, and at the very beginning of the game, you'll always feel a bit useless. Every RPG is like that. Until you get more abilities and gain a few levels you won't really know what a class "feels like."

I have an E/R and right now the only R skill I'm using is Troll Unguent but I plan on finding a good bow to use and implementing some of the more advanced Ranger skills.

Monk/Rangers get in groups all the time

As for ranger primaries, the problem may be with the lack of a focus job in small PvP battles. Kinda the same issues with Necros in small PvP where they lack something tangable.

Hopefully all this will change soon for the better.

well rangers are not picked sometimes for pvp because people don't understand the nuances of specific complex classes. whenever you are in a town people are rarely spamming that they are looking for anything other than warriors or monks. rangers have incredible range...waaaay further than any casters.

i did the thirsty river mission with a few rangers and the range at which they could attack stuff was mind blowing. If ranger's are not doing damage it's only because they don't have enough attribute points in marksmanship.

There is nothing wrong with any class in this game...pick the class that suits your style. All classes can be awesome in pvp situations.

Rangers are not in demand by groups and it's true, they don't deal lots of damage fast. But in pvp for the same reason rangers are often ignored and is the last player standing. So it can be blessing in disguise. They can poison, bleed and cripple opponents at a distance and lay traps without opponents' knowledge. I think ranger's Troll Urgent is the second most powerful healing spell with health regeneration of (up to) +9, which can counter mesmers' conjure phantom (deg -5) and necro's life siphon (deg -3), so long as it's not disrupted. It's a fun character to play, but unfortunately, like necro is very underappreciated in cooperative mission.
