Help Please

Hi, i just started on guild wars, ive done a few quests and got too level 4, ive got to the point when i realise i dont have a clue what im doing or what anything is building up too. please help because i think this is a great game already, althought i dont know what im doing. And why do i Need a second profession if i want to go to the academy?

I'm not sure if this is accurate, but I think you can't pick your secondary after the academy. I think you need it before you go otherwise you won't get it.
