I'd buy one for collector value myself (they are confirmed to be an event only item), but I'm not completely convinced we wont get one free at some event :\ The off chance is enough to make me hold my money back..

That little quote from Gaile with its blurry wording (done on propose) got me too. "Tell your friends. They should come play to earn one

That sounds like The Holiday event planned for New years eve (the Wintersday thing) - much like Pumpkin heads were event prize in Halloween for playing the games in LA..

We rumor spreaders might just be reading into it too much, but The off chance is enough for me to save my money..

Today when I tried to Famr the Cave with my warrior, i found that the alvacaras where all over the place mixed in with the ice imps. Anyone else see this? Anyone else know how to reslove

I have done around 20+ runs. From my experience, here is what I found:

It takes around 15min to run from granite citadel to ice imp cave via solo run.
25% chance failure b/c there is a group of avacary together with a group of imps
--no way to run past them or defeat them using a warrior
--so a rezone or a rerun is required.

An icy dragon sword drops roughly once for every 18-23 fridget heart drop.
So on average it drops once every 2-3 runs. 25%-37.5% chance of getting an IDS per solo run.

If you are going with a 5 man party, your odds of getting an IDS is 6.6%-10% per run.

I think the shortage of IDS is becuase everyone is HOARDING them!!! They turning them into HoD swords. I think ANet should turn them into regular weapons or weapon craftable at collectors. I am still making runs for my guild so everyone who wants one has one. They still dropping like before.

I have spent the whole of Xmas day trying to get one of these with repeated trips to the cave with no luck.

I'm still trying, going with a friend now to see if they maybe drop.

Argh, its so frustrating!

I just want 1 and then I can continue my adventures.

Why must some get them on first trip and some it takes 50 trips.

You call that balance! HA!

Is it just me or are IDS's drop rate drastically dropping? I've done 5 solo runs in a row that came up with no IDS. I've only gotten one IDS, and that was my very first run, on my very first Imp (or was it the second)?

Pyrea, I can only feel for you as I've been out in Mineral Springs thoughout the xmas week-end. I did about 20~25 runs in there but never got any. During my last run tonight, the one who got the sword was someone who was out on his first attempt.

Saturday: 0 (didn't play much, but my few runs didn't yield)
Sunday: 6 Yay!!

Yeah it's a lot of grind, but when you finally do see "Ice Imp drops an Icy Dragon Sword" it makes it all worthwhile.

God seriously. Done a lot of runs now, and absolutely no luck. Try again tomorrow i guess. Agh.. seriously. Haven't seen anything in two days.

Bad spawns DEFINITELY SUCK. However, if there is only one group of avicaras near the mouth of the cave you can lure them out, and then sprint.. trying to drag about two of them along with you (I bring a bow, and I find it normally works), and just go for the wise or ardent first.. depending on who chases you. Don't take on more than two or three at a time, esp if the wise is still there. That is about the only way to salvage a crappy spawned run. It's worthwhile I find, but a bit troublesome. I'd rather grind a bit more fighting than rerun the whole thing :P So it's possible, just very difficult an stupid

TY for that info though... definitely very helpful.

FINALLY, in an end to this really long post.. HOW THE HELL would a monk do that? That seems seriously dangerous.. I mean the running part that is :P I'd be interested in trying to figure that one out lol

My first 2 were in small teams (2 or 3 peeps). The first one, I was with guildies being shown the run, and one dropped with my name on it. The second one, I was showing another guildie the run, and when one dropped, it was for me also. So please don't take me on your IDS farming team, I get all the drops!!!

The rest were from solo runs. Shame I won't be on much probably until Tuesday sometime, I'd like to stock up on some more.

casue they are realy spread out and balthzars aura has 2 sec cast which is impossible with maelstrom spam , same with symbol of wrath , and if u use spellbreaker , u will only have like 17 secs to do dmg.

I know a 2 monks can do it, but we killed avicras on the way, and ran past the warrior boss.. SOJ is a must, thats the only real way to do good damage quick, move around when malestrom is cast,and if you're like me, i brought my staff +20% enchanting and a spel lthat gives +28% enchants, so +50% enchants + a 20% smiting recharge speed, which gives you a pretty good shot of recasting it quickly after the other one runs out.. anyways, just move around, keep your spells up, you'll be fine.

I did 5 solo runs now, and got 1 IDS. I got the IDS while Europe had favor, and the runs I got nothing, they didn't have favor.

But I heard favor has nothing to do with it... :s

Yeah theres some guy in dist1 europe say 'IDS don't drop if you don't have favor'

I wish people wouldn't listern to silly rumours like this, it's not true i have seen plenty drop when we didn't have favor.

I can solo it as a Mo/W, but I'm beginning to think Mo/Me might be better since I really don't use bonetti's all that much. A run takes me about an hour, but I kill all the mobs of Avicara Fierce and Brave because I've gotten some very nice gold drops off of them. Still, a bad spawn can kill me - if there are Ice Imps outside the cave, or an Avicara spawn too close to the cave mouth, I have a really hard time in any mob with a Guile in it. I can do it, but I die a lot and it takes forever to keep running from the res portal.

Done four or five solo runs, none have dropped for me.

how can u solo with a monk? i tried and i have no broblem runing to the cave. i use spell braker and sprint. but i still die at the imps.. even with reversal and p spirit. for dmg i tried using zealot fire but it's not doing much. could i have some tips on this?
