that's the nuttiest thing I've heard.
I just expected they were working on the 'christmas update'
pumpkin heads ok but there is a santa hat issue?
call it 'holiday hat' if you have too, go 'happy holiday' update or 'new years' if need be,
but no christmas update would BITE :b
was making sure the wife and my monk working with her were to Lions Arch by Thursday...
is there no point to this effort?
bleh if so - hope you're wrong

On GuildWars.com theres a question about this in the support section:
Question
Will there be a Guild Wars holiday event?
Answer
It is a well-known fact that Guild Wars players like holidays and events, and so do Tyrians, the characters who live in the Guild Wars world. We like to keep our plans for holidays a secret, so that they are a gift to the players. With that in mind, we can neither confirm nor deny any plans for the upcoming holiday. However, we can tell you that if unusual events start taking place on or around that date, you should not be alarmed, but simply view it with the probability that it is the holiday that is causing or inspiring the changes. For instance, if NPCs changed, or the weather changed, or items appeared, or towns or outposts were decorated in a different fashion, consult your calendar and note with confidence, "Ah, yes, it's holiday time in Tyria."

I don't know for sure if there is or is not going to be one i was just asking because for the halloween update they had gw.com updated with halloween in Tyria on the site like a few days to a week before hand and they have not done this for christmas or holiday..i would think that if christmas was a problem then they very well could just do "holiday" all tho i would really like to see a huge christmas tree in the middle of LA. i really just figured with chapter 2 set to come out in the end of march and the world champ. competition they just might not have time to make everyone happy. i also know that if there is not some sort of holiday update alot of people are going to be very upset.

There will more than likely be one, and to call it a "holiday" event is complete BS. I am catholic, and am not afraid to say that this Holiday is only here for one reason: The birth of Christ. If people are really gonna be so lame about it as to not call it what it really is, then they better not even celebrate, nor exchange gifts or anything. If they do, then they are nothing but hypocrites of the worst kind, and ought to be ashamed of themselves.
For those who do not believe in God, or are not Christian, they should not even have this holiday off. I don't get to take off any time for Hannukah* not sure of the spelling* ,or Kwaanza. So everyone should stop there bitching and get over it. People need to stop being so afraid of offending someone, you know what, that's life. It's a hardknock one at that, not all peaches and cream. So people, stop acting like you are in kindergarten, and grow up.

Hi, guys, You know we're major lovers of holidays. Look at Halloween -- days of growing fun, new things to see, hear, and do, and a fantastic finale in The Mad King. We wouldn't let this season pass without note, you can be sure of it! When? Well, I have a feeling it'll be within the next, oh, 24 hours or so. It could be a little longer before it starts, but that's what I'm thinkin'. What will you see? Hear? Do? Aww, now, that would be telling! Put it this way: It's not a "toss in a wreath and some holly leaves and call it done." It's a rolling event with lots for you to experience over the coming days, so you'll want to check in often. And for those of you on the "Nice, Not Naughty" list, yes, there will be presents of several kinds. See you in Tyria, and all our best for a "Merry Christmas," a "Happy Hanukkah," and a "Joyous Tyrian Winter Festival," too! |

| No, it's not that narrow in dates. There will be a few surprises, and with New Year's in the same holiday "block," so to speak, well, I'm sure you can see we've had a lot of ideas in mind. |

All Holidays have lost their religious meaning long ago...
People call Halloween an old pagan holiday so Chirstians shuoldn't celebrate it... Complete BS..
It is true that the Celtic celebration of Samhain was held on October 31st. But that is not Halloween.
Hallow meaning Saint. Pope Boniface IV made November 1st "All Hallowmas" (Alholowmesse in middle english), so "Halloween" is "All Hallow's Day Eve" - A CHRISTIAN HOLIDAY. So "Halloween" was really a coverup by the pope to erase old holidays. But since all religious meaning of any holiday has been removed - most people dont realize that. Halloween simply means "Kids dress up and get candy day" now..
As for Christmas, same deal. Bet you didn't know - But the "holidays" have been celebrated since thousands of years BEFORE your Jesus was even born. The 12 days....all that stuff. Mesopotamian's actually started it to honor MARDUK, their cheif god. And several other old empires did the same winter festivals for their gods.
I'll let you in on a secret your churchs dont tell you - Jesus was born probably no where near december 25th..It was mostly likely spring though the day is not known. Christ's birth was actually celebrated on a totally different day until 350 AD. You know who started the "Christmas" thing? Julius I - the Bishop of Rome. See - everyone still celebrated Saturnalia (a Roman "pagan" holiday) around that time..and the church couldn't get them to stop - So instead, the plan was to "Replace" that holiday with a Christian one...basically to turn Saturnalia into a religious holiday for them. And dont get me started on Santa Clause. Christmas basically means "Buy your kids alot of stuff or they get mad Day".
So noone really has any religious claims to any of these days...

I think the important thing to note here is that ANet has developed a world that features its own mythology and calendar. I look forward to whatever they have planned for the anniversary of the world creation [release] date.
To apply our own mythologies onto this virtual world is pointless indeed.
Bring on Father Charrmas! We're well into the Season of the Scion, I want snow and lots of it!
