My favorite? Claude. Claude dies first, but is great as he can battery you. I play even on my W/X and he still does it to me when my mana is low. Mana Clauding FTW
For the most practical, the healers <Lina/Alesia>
For the the impractical, Orion.
For the Melee, Thom and Stef
And for some extra fun, Dunham
Eve can also be substituted for Claude...but she seems to be squishier.

Cynn and Orion need to retire to a shady bar somewhere near fisherman's haven

Mine would be Devona and Lina .I did like Stefan to a certain point but I am now tired of the way he goes down to fast as he only has 2 fighting skills power attack a griffon sweep he is good earlier in the game past Yaks he and most of the Henchies are no good untill you get the level 20 in Dragons Lair.What is a level 10 hecnhie fighter going up against a Tengu Brave level 13 with seeking blade and riposte it is no wonder him and Thom die far to often.The one I like the least of is Dunham he his useless.

Little thom stronger than stef and is around for more of the game than devona. However all monk hench are used the most!!!!!!!

Guys... for a past experience, I would say the archer henchman in dragon'S lair. I was doing the mission and for an unknown reason I decided to rush and kill the boss (very bad idea) the party got wiped pretty fast... and the archer used a rez signet on me. He rezzed me as he died !
So kudo for that rez signet with that henchman.. it saved the party

Little Thom is by far my fav.. he is a true survivor. He ends up being the last one to survive if all of the other hench go down, he's is one tough cookie.

Well, you gotta love Alesia through most of the game if you're not a monk and solo'ing.

Stefan - he seems to me to be hardier than Thom, and he like his Healing Sig.
Reyna - always the last to die usually and has that rez signet.
Claude - his blood ritual is da bomb.
I do not like Eve, she seems so useless to me. I'd like Devona, but she has that nasty habit of rushing ahead all the time.
OH! AND LINA! LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT LINA! That stupid *#&# has gone on a crack-spree or something because ever since I got to Grenth's Footprint and got Mhenlo in my group, she WILL NOT REZ ANYONE if Mhenlo is down. No, she will stand over 3 dead bodies and look at you because Mhenlo is dead somewhere else....they broke her AI or something in the last patch, because she refuses to rez anyone but Mhenlo...period.

Devona is pretty good and when I'm not playing an Elementalist, I usually grab Cynn as well (but then, I'm very fond of NPC Cynn character-wise :P). Reyna has an amazing ability to survive; she's often the last one standing. Healing-wise, Mhenlo and Lina together usually do the job fairly well.

Lina by far the best henchie and a healer to boot.

Alesia - sometimes she will heal, sometimes tank, sometimes hang back and try wand enemies to death, and sometimes do nothing. I've lost count of the number times Alesia has :
1. aggro a new mob while we're already engaged in a fight;
2. not heal me when fighting is over, and I have no energy left to heal myself and suffering from a degen (she seems to enjoy watching me die);
3. constantly run back & forth between a dead ally and the rest of the team, not knowing whether to rez dead ally or not (poor, poor confused monk);
4. if she has the courage, she will charge into a mob to rez a dead ally and get killed herself;
5. after being rez, she enjoys standing in a poison pool if there is one nearby;

Despite these, Alesia is always my first choice henchie for my party. I like Alesia, because she is so unpredictable...a loose cannon. I find that she provides additional stress and excitement to quests/missions.

Although, I think I'm starting to pick up some bad habits from him, as I've noticed lately that my fireballs are arriving late and firestorms are raining down on nothing... Who knows, maybe in time I'll get to be as 'good' as him...

true story:
When i first played Ice Caves of Sorrow, i henched it. And knowing nothing about infusion, i tried to do the bonus with just henchies and not being infused.
My run-ins with the mursaat and jades ended up with a lot of the henchmen dead except Little Thom.
He saved my life several times in that mission, so he's always been my fave.

At first, I hated Little Thom because he and Cynn aggroed like crazy in Sorrow's Furnace on one trip. Seriously... if we targeted something that was on the other side of the map (just to announce a boss in close proximity) - off they went!
But then, Little Thom earned some brownie points back... I was in Dragon's Lair (different character) and decided to try all hench (it was late, the place was dead). We zone into the 2nd facet's lair... and all of my hench just run away, except Little Thom. They ran up one of the hills (that you really can't run up) and just kept going - some sort of glitch due to the portal, I don't know. I died, Thom survived and stood by my dead body. Alesia never came back. Thom didn't rez me.
Eh, stupid hench.

I think Archer is great. She/he usually stays alive well and does good damage. I always bring the archer.
