I have an idea, I read your post about how you had a forum for each main profession but that it conflicted because a w/r was the same as a r/w
I understand this in essence, so instead why not implement a feature like this:
User clicks Profession discussion forums
User is given two bars
With these two bars, the user can select their main profession and the secondary profession they would like to discuss
This then compiles the posts from the those two classes into one forum that you can peruse at your own delight and respond to.
These two bars would also have to be here when the user wishes to create a topic, they can select up to two professions that they want this subject in for the query.

I do not believe he meant actual hacking. As you can "hack" the boards anyway you like and change features, add mods, etc. I think his point was, it would take him forever + 2 to script all of that.

Ramus is correct - it would require a lot of modifying vBulletin to get it done correctly.
