Ranger Build for PvE
Talin Verderben
I am a PvE player. Dabled in PvP in the arenas but nothing serious. I was thinking of trying a new build out and wanted to post my idea here for oppinions.
Thanks!
Skills:
Dual Shot
Kindle Arows
Ignite Arrows
Barrage
Greater Conflagration
Winter
Troll Unguent
Rebirth
Obviously I will be using Droks Fur Lined armor and the Winter/ Greater Conflag combo to make all damage cold and boost my AR. I will also pick up a Icy String for my bow and a Grip of Warding as well.
I know that using Barrage will end the two preps but I figure that I would bring it incase my group got tied up with a large mob.
Or will it really be needed with Kindle, Ignite, and Dual Shot? Hmm...maybe Dryders Defenses instead?
Any suggestions or ideas would be great! Thanks!
Thanks!

Would you be better off with something to boost your damage then? Barrage is ok, it adds some damage and cycles fast, but it's not super.

Oops! You are right no need for the string! I was getting the string and the Ele conjure skills reversed! My bad. Ok so no string. Yes I would be running it mainly with guildies so they would be well informed of my intent.

Sounds like overkill on the defensive side, and 2 preps is seldom worth it, especially if they both simply add damage. Kindle is a better bet than Ignite in a party situation - people don't like having the enemies running everywhere generally - makes it harder to tank and use AoE - your ignite will scatter them. If you really want a second prep, take something to help against certain foes - either poison them, or maybe some interruption with Choking Gas. Maybe a trap even, to help get away from foes - tell your squishies to run by you to dislodge pursuers and plant a barbed trap before combat? You are spending points on WS anyway, so it doesn't hurt - or use flame trap? It has the ability to scatter opponents, so when they go to mob around you they run away again. You might consider an attack speed boost instead of more defenses.

Just notced that I cant run Barrage anyway duh, its an Elite and so is Greater Conflagration! LOL
So I will drop Ignite for a damaging shot say Penetrating Attack. I always like to run some type of evasion skill Whether its Whirling Defense, Dryders Defense, Dodge, or Escape so I think I will try keeping Dryders Defense, it just seems to fit better. Epinephrine

Give Lightning Reflexes a try then? - it's dual purpose - if the action is well contained away from you, you can use it as a pure IAS skill, if you get mobbed it gives you enough time as an evasion skill to survive/get away.
imaginary friend
2 elites? Can't have that now.

LOL
Yeah that was discovered (although late)by both of us and corrected. New build looks something like this: Dual Shot Kindle Arows Penetrating Attack Lightning Reflexes Greater Conflagration Winter Troll Unguent Rebirth Now I just need to Cap Conflag! dargon
Unless your intent is to make your entire groups damage elemental, you don't need GC as kindle is already converting your damage to elemental.
Former Ruling
Greater conflag in pve is only used...In ONE mission/area in the PVE game - that happens to be the mission you cap it in.
otherwise your warriors will just be cursing at you for making them deal cold dmg. as for build: Drop Lightning, add in Whirling Defense. just my suggestion. unless you lacking in the monk department, just bring a Rez sig. In general - your giving up ALOT of power and energy (not wearing druids) just for 15 AL... Thats not going to swing the tide of battle.. Talin Verderben

As stated already i will be using this with guildies who will know the build and be ready for it. Besides why would warriors care what type of damage they are causing? The cripple, bleeding, Vamp, Sunder weapons wont change. Those arent elemental. I normally use Whirling Defense with all my builds cause it lasts longer. I think I will prob use Lightning mainly for solo runs as its also an Attack speed boost. I also always run Rebirth, I find it more useful than a sig because of multiple uses. Personal preference. Also I normally run Drakescale anyway so the loss of energy doesnt bother me. I like to use what I think looks cool normally, and the 15k Drakes is much cooler than the Druids in my opinion. Again personal preference. Thansk for the help, keep em coming. LaserLight
Just so ye know, Ruling, in some cases the combo isn't just for 15 extra AL, it's for 45. Conflag/Winter means that all damage is applied against the Ranger's superb elemental defense, wheras just Winter alone would mean only spells already going against that defense would get the extra little 15 AL. With both, you get to make Warriors suck (for once in their miserable lives), which is a worthy goal in and of itself. Plus, if it's truly the focus of a team build, then the entire team can bring stuff designed to benefit from it, such as Hydromancer's Armor for Elementalists, which would put them almost on par with a Warriors base elemental resistance. Admittedly any Warriors in your own team would dislike you, but Conflag/Winter is a Revenge of the Squishies-type build anyways.
