3 Observer Mode Suggestions
Vusak
1. Display energy levels as well as health levels in the translucent party display and/or the opaque party windows.
2. Allow "save as.." or "save replay" etc. some kind of recording method or some such ability that can be used to watch the same thing later - maybe another heading in observer mode called "Saved Matches".
3. A standalone non-gaming functionality observer mode exe that is free. eg. you goto www.guildwars.com/Observer/ download the observer utility, all it does is give you access to currently running matches to watch - it provides no gaming capability - no other functionality other than to watch matches currently in progress - and matches saved/recorded.
i think i could easily get a bunch of friends playing guildwars instead if i could just link them to a demonstration of some high quality pvp action, without the tediousness of recording to avi, zipping, hosting, etc.
if you added a 'rate this match' type thing after a match is finished - ie. a popup says 'if you would like to rate this match plz press an option 1-5 where 5 is the best'. then each week have a 'match of the week' which is recorded and downloadable on the website or something, so potential gamers could see what its all about.
okay that was prolly closer to like 5 suggestions, but yeah, thats all i can think of for now.

except for 3, thats just more work for designers and i dont find it usefull for myself. If those people are friends then you can aswell get them over to your house and watch the battle on your pc wich has GW installed.
that would be cool

So, /signed (for all suggestions here, not just 2).
However, I'd like to extend the suggestion.
What I'd like is the ability to save a replay of any match in which I participate.
A. This should work regardless of the venue - CA/TA/HoH/GvG.
B. I should be given the option to save once the match is over. And by 'match' I mean any single team fight - so if my team wins and we're waiting for the next match to begin, we'd need to option right then to save the previous match.
C. The entire match should be saved.
D. When viewing a replay, there should be basic VCR-like controls (start over, fast forward, etc). Something like what Warcraft III provides.
Personally, I'd find this more useful than the current Observer mode. Sure, it's fun, and you can learn from it, but I think we'd learn a lot more from studying matches we were in.
Thanks.

I like the idea, but why build a screen capture into the game? Just get a video capture tool and record it yourself.

wow...
you guys are never satisfied, are you? they just gave us observer mode, and you want more already?
/not signed
to give the devs a break.

/not signed. You're asking for too much. Only way I'd see it possible is for it to record fights and save them to your computer seperately from their site. But then again, you can already get the stuff to do it, so why should they even bother? How about you get up off your fat ass and get the software to record this stuff if it's so important to you.

The Observer.exe could be used as a browser plugin. When your guild has a battle, you could show it on your website.

Also I really want the ability to watch my guildies fight in gvg but we're not Rank +100 so I can't
Mybe an option for joining as an observer should be included.

1. I would like this, but it is not really needed
2. FRAPs will do this. I have recorded a couple of good matches EnS vs iQ last night, woot!! We do not need to take up bandwidth for this thing. Let's keep it simple.
3. I like the idea, but I am greedy and do not want to give up bandwith for it. If anyone wants to be convinced to buy this game send them to me , unless the do not fix the bridges.

Allow observance of Hall of Heroes battles even when a rank 100 or below guild isn't there. That's my only complaint :/

No, I just think its kind of dumb that you have to wait for crappy balance groups to get to the HoH just to watch what battles are altering the "War of the Worlds".
Rank 100 and below guilds hardly ever make it to the Halls, they're too attached to GvG thinking.

Hells Vengeance
Thats just human nature be satisfied with it
Chev of Hardass
I agree, HoH is often held by guilds that specialize in winning and holding the halls. It is an entirely different game from GvG and requires a completely different sort of tactics. These teams often can wipe out and IWAY team while holding off a spike team.
HoH is not a joke, it is incredibly different and amazing thing.

Funny that no one made the 'never satisfied' comments when everyone was having a fit over the improved AI or the low prices on runes, but somehow they always make them when it comes to PvP.

I don't want a saved replay just so I can watch the same thing I saw while I was fighting. I want to view the other parts of the battlefield, observe what skills a character used, etc.

-unclick the stupid autocamera thing at the top right
-hit "P" to bring up the party window
-on the party window, click the grey button to make another party window
-hit the colored button by the grey one that is not highlighted
You now have a party window for both teams and can actually see what they are doing.
In my opinion A.Net is retarded for making the obwerver mode start up in something that would be considered a nice demo for the game. Auto-camera is terrible.

For those of you naging about Fraps and similar software, I have a feeling the original poster is talking about replay files *not* movie files in the OP.
Beeing able to save replays and share them with people on the internet would be a very very good idea. It would deffinatly strenghten the PvP community in GuildWars, particulary if the replays could be rated by users like the OP mentions. I don't think it should be limited to beeing hosted on GuildWars.com though. Using the "save as" function should just download the replay file to your computer, which you could then upload somewhere.
And it wouldn't be too much work for the devs either. ANet obviously have some way of storing matches in a replay format which the observer engine is able to play back, so the functionality is allready there. The stand-alone observer client is also a great idea, and once again it would use functionality allready there.

- I can't do these things for a match that happened last week, but that I want to review now.
- I can't do these things for any match (only matches that have a highly-ranked guild in them, or whatever the criteria for inclusion in Observer mode morph into).
Let's be clear - I think Observer mode is wonderful. It just doesn't do enough. Yep, I'm being picky. Yep, I'd be shocked if the company hadn't already thought of my suggestion. But, I'm also indicating my interest in their developing a tool for saving and viewing matches 'offline,' so to speak.
Such a tool would be great for the community, as others have stated, and would increase my interest in PvP. Sounds like a good thing for anet.
Thanks.
