So, it would seem that rangers are useless outside of PvP
Fable
Been searching the internet high and low and I cannot find a simple PvE ranger build. Anyone have on that works? All that I can find are PvP builds.

Trappers are god in pve.

Maybe not quite as powerful as a 55hp monk but it works for me.Regardless il throw out a basic trapper build for you.
(Applypoison/barbed ,flame and dust traps/ SQ/throw dirt/Escape&
Troll ungent)
Ex-10 Marks-9 WS-16
I also use beast master builds for some of those solos and Drakescale or Fur-lined armor instead of Druids.
Not that i wont die sometimes, but at 168xp per kill i work that off quick.

Call a moronic noob, but how could you use traps effectively in solo on PvE?
Also, thanks for all your help.

MOST COMMON PVE BUILD: (with some alternate choices for personal taste for personal taste)
Quick Shot/Poison Arrow {E}
Dual Shot
Penetrating Shot/Savage Shot
Distracting Shot
Rez Sig
Troll unguent
Whirling Defense/Tigers Fury
Kindle Arrows.
Savage in for caster heavy areas, Tigers in if you dont mind it messing up your timing on the recharges.
---------
EDIT FOR SOLO TRAPPER:
Solo trappers /usually/ stockpile traps then make the enemy run over them and auto-die. If your dealing with smaller groups, you can just put a def stance up or blind them all, and sit traps under them (but you risk them hitting you thorugh blind/stances).

I'm really pissed that I can't get onto a Sorrows Furnace farming team JUST BECAUSE I'M A RANGER! No one bothers to find out if my Ranger is any good, they just assume you are not worthy because you are a Ranger... How can this happen? Easy... Rangers are inherently useless in the furnace (and many other parts of the game). Lets face it.. they dont do enough damage, they don't help the rest of the team enough to make them a worthwhile addition to most teams.
IT'S TIME TO FIX THE RANGERS!
Rember the good old days when bows did up to 35 damage?
BRING BACK THE 35 DAMAGE BOWS SO TEAMS WILL WANT TO PLAY WITH RANGERS!
If the devs cant bring back 35 damage bows, DO SOMETHING to make Rangers more valuable to teams...

In response to Rhodamine Red:
Ok, for you Ele's out there, I'm gonna bring along Quickening Zephire and Energizing Winds. Enjoy you massive recharge and spell cost reduction.
For you Warriors, I'm gonna bring along Winnowing to beef up your damage output.
For the Monk, I'm gonna drop a Spike Trap at your feet just in case the mob rushes you. They'll never see it comin, heh.
For everyone in general, I'm gonna run an interupt build, and I'm gonna deny any spell caster monster out there. Or, maybe I'll use Incindiary Arows and Fragility (R/Me) and absolutly own some poor fool. Or, maybe I'll run Barrage and use the AoE nerf to our advantange, keeping the monsters off balance enough so that we never really have to worry about them. Hell, I'll run a pet build, you get a free tank with your ranger today! Lucky!
Rangers are far from worthless, and good players realize this. If you wanna farm in Sorrow's Furnace, I say screw the other classes, run a 4 man UW style trapper team!

if good players realize this......
well, you get my point.
as for a 4 man trapper team into the furnace, i think don't think it's possible. the AI isn't as predictable and there's ranged attackers to deal with. healing spring won't do the job, and neither will Troll Unguent....:P

If I were looking for an anti-spellcaster in PvE, nothing would top a ranger with practiced stance + choking gas + tiger's fury, and trappers are also great in certain situations. They're not useless if you ask me.

seem as though it is hard to get into group for farming in SF. Tried to do it with 4 henches, didnt get far cuz they are over powering.

The problem with crap like the Sorrow's Furnace issue is that people don't see Rangers as having any singular stand-out specialty. Other classes that have an easy time getting into groups only get such if they follow the typical requirements of the class they're playing. Want to get into a Furnace group as a Meleemancer? Fat friggin' chance, bud, no matter how awesome you are. People have developed a very rigid guideline for what is 'good' in certain places, and if you ain't on the list, you're SOL.
Rangers, since aside from Spirits (bleh) they don't tend to have any standout aspect to those not very familiar with them, tend to get shoved off to the side to squeee in another Warrior or Echo Nuker or ProtBot or whatever the current fad is. Never mind what the character itself and the player behind it can actually do. Even superb players not using an accepted character type will find it a nightmare trying to get anywhere in the later games. This is, of course, bull, but it's the way things are. Unfortunately those who want to play those ostracized classes basically have two options: play with Guildies or play with henchmen. Neither of which is always a viable option.
Basically, ye have no choice but to just swallow the frustration and hope somebody cares enough to let you in, or that you can kick your Guild into farming trips with you. Trust me, I know what it's like to want to do your own thing and not be able to - I hate Spirits with a passion, and despite this I've been told repeatedly that if I'm not a Trapper or a Spirit-monkey, I'm not a Ranger. Just stick with it man. Better to fail your own way than to succeed someone else's.

My usual line for this is not to get the skills they ask me to bring, and just say later on 'You asked if I COULD bring them.'
But yes, they can such twerps. My melee ranger with drakescale and greater conflagration has as much armour as any warrior; more even.

I love playing as a ranger/ele with kindle and conjure flame. Use a short fire bow and tiger's fury for IAS. You're just a machine gun of yellow numbers.

you can also add tigers fury and IGNITE arrows (better pve) for some AOE elemental damage.
