OK, This bothers me! I have been to UW a few times and only have 2 ecto to speak of ... why are people running around with lots of them ? I think it's totally unfair that you can go down to the Underworld , POON it for a couple hours & get zilch! I mean if you are down there for hours being successful you should get more ecto drops than what I've seen. 2, I mean 2 is all I get after maybe spending 20 hours in UW. What am I doing wrong ? Well, what is my guild doing wrong ? They haven't had the kind of success other ppl are having either. It just boggles me that somebody is walking around saying 105 ectos for 9.5K each... If that's the way it's gonna be for me than I'll just farm the furnace and sell the green weapons. I have a high success rate getting green drops. Besides, if it's gonna be that hard to ecto to get armor that isn't even better specs (just looks different) why are they that hard to come by ?

I gave up after getting NO ectos after 10 runs into UW.
In fact, there was only one ecto dropped for that group, and it was for the party asshole who then proceeded to lord it over everyone.
That was right before we all purposefully died, went back to Temple, and booted his ass from the party.

Ectos were very easy to get a while ago .. before screwing the things 
i drop +- 80 myself in a week and lotsa items
looks like now the only way is either one by one in lucky drop with yer guild or buying em +-10k a piece at the trader :/

See, I can understand if they are $10K/per but you could get 4/5 on average if you were down there 2hrs. I mean that's a long time and u should get something in return for fighting the best of the best monsters. But, that's BS if you don't get any on a 2hr trip. After all you need 105 to get Fissure Armor ?
So after 20hrs of UW and 2 ecto I am on pace for 43.75 days of UW to get 105.. pfft..

well if they dropped for you then *gratz!* I been on many UW trips and not one single ecto has dropped for me
Having said that I now I have heaps of them because I found other ways to make gold/plat and simple bought them.
I can understand your frustration, but hang in there and it should work out

Let me put it this way for you. I do not farm UW all day long and have been playing since release (7 months) and I have found 4 ecto total.
Question is do you really care about FoW armor?

Wow, I must be lucky, three weeks ago I had 0, started a new "character" and boom 3 weeks later I have 117 ecto.

ectos is the things of the past. We got X-Mas shards and items to collect not to mention a new chapter early next years so why bother going to UW with a crappy group to get at least 1 ecto?

ive been in UW for at least 48 hours and have not gotten a single ecto. The best i ever got is 1 ruby but thats it.

i dont see the problem i get one every 3/4 runs. Using a good trapper team can get about 3 smite runs in and hour take some keys and get some gold/purp items to sell on the way easy money.
It's all down to luck and party size. Only once seen an ecto drop in a full party run. Secret is use a small 2/3/4 man party for money making plans like this.

I gone on a bunch of UW runs and have only ever seen 2 ecto drop, none for me of course. Still I go on, broke as a joke and wishing I were rich.
Just let it go, nothing you can do is really going to change the way things are.

You can thank the bots and solo monks for the crappy ecto drop rate. Ectos used to drop as much as shards and as soon as the solo monk came out all the bots were using the build and A NET nerfed the drop rate. (only for smite runs). The drop rate for ectos is still really good in the chaos planes and the spawning pools. It is hard to get a good group though that knows how to clear those areas because everyone only wants to do the smite runs or spider runs.

ectos is hard to get, if after 2 or 3 run it still dun drop. then i will stop going uw.
if i got a ecto drop that day, i will continue going down uw, coz its most probably will drop again.

I remember I used to play Runescape. What I'd always do is end up buying items low, for example in GW, 3 ecto at 8.5k each for a total of 25.5k, and then sell them for 10k or trade them for something for 10k that I wanted like a green item. So I'd get up to 30k, yielding a 4.5k profit -- if you're lucky. But like the stock market, the more you have in shares, the more profit you get. That's why when it goes up and down a few cents it can make or break some people. if you have 100 ectos at 8.5k each, that's a total of 850k. Now if you can sell them for 10k each, you're getting 1 mill. That's a 250k profit right there. So starting out is a pain in the ass, but there will be people out there who can miraculously afford this crap, and since armors do use 100+ ectos and people will want to have all their different 15k armors, then it's possible. Extreme farmers who don't sleep and ebayers are probably going to be your buyers at that point, but then again, it depends on what you decide to do with what you have. Play fairly, buy from ebay, or start farming until you can afford around 20 ectos and merchant your way up? There really aren't any good ways to go about making cash in this game. There's a distinctive 2 level barrier, and it's hard to cross over to the rich side. Just be sure you don't waste your money. Look for items at low prices, take a chance and buy. Also realize that the new betting you can do on this site is good aswell as there are other things to merchant. Black dye is one of the more easier things, as well as silver dye. But don't limit yourself to that, Char Hides, collector items, etc are also good. You don't have to farm them either, you can buy them from people. And most of the time you'll find desperate people, so offer dirt low and sell sky high. You can always take breaks to farm and play, but if you're already doing that for money, you're not going anywhere.

Hmm... I do probably three UW runs a day average since I'm trying to save up ectos for my armor. Very rarely do I *not* get an ecto on a run. I probably get at least one ecto per run 80% of the time, sometimes two. I've gotten three in a run once but that's rare, as is getting none for me.
Maybe it's the things you kill. The only creatures that drop ecto are Aatxes, Dryders, Smites, and Keeper of the Souls. Nothing else will drop ecto for you.
Do the clear the chamber quest, then clear all the smites, and you should find yourself an ecto or two. I'm in the same boat as the guy that said he got 117 ecto in three weeks. That can definately be done. So far I have 76 ectos saved up in the past month going for 120, and I don't spend every minute I play guild wars in UW either.

Everything in UW can drop an ecto, not only certain things (except chained souls or whatever they are). If you want to get the most out of an UW run go clear out the chaos planes, they have a much higher drop rate there than just the smite runs. If you want a crystaline sword clear out the spawning pools, they don't drop a lot of ectos but you do have a chance at a crystaline, I have seen them drop there before.

Try clearing the chaos planes with a pug..
With a 2 man team we kill all the aatxes/smiters/coldfires, everything till the behemoths..
With a pug, I'm lucky to even make it to the smites -_-

For example, whether you believe it or not; I got an ecto in Kryta, Not UW. But maybe Anet changed that because it has been long ago.
I think the advice of Kai is the best btw, you can easily earn a lot of money in trading. I however also advice you to not go trade weapons as their prices drop like hell sometimes.

Also, it clearly states in the "beginners guide to the underworld" sticky thread in the PvE section that only these four drop ecto.

Last night I got 4 ecto from one run in UW and I got 1 ecto from a short run. Nothing special just an exploration run. Ecto is very low in price now days for some reason too, if the drops are low, should the prices be high?

i've been ids soloing too about 20 so far ids=ftw +50 k each now they are going for 40 and 30 k

Yeah, that is usually how i think things work, or people just come into money and start buying. Also, then you ahve the guilds (and i know who you are...) awho all bunch a Ecto and go about trying to jack the prices (like they did a month ago.)
