Ability to re-customize weapons

After making my first trader mistake (should have reviewed the manual, lol) I learned an important lession, make sure the weapon isn't already customized for someone else before u accept! Although, I only lost 150g, so no biggie. Weapons and armor should be able to be re-customized and maybe even be limited to how many times. Number of times left should be indicated as well. Anyone else here get screwed by this?

dude that would defeat the purpose of customization. The idea here is that no one can use your stuff.

Rarely do other games reuse items, a few might or you just sell em to a merchant, and customization is sort of a better than all those deal, as the weapon now does 20% more damage. Allowing a second or third use basically says that it will be traded as though there was no limit.

Don't like this idea, I like the fact my weapons are my own. However I would like to see, more options of customisation in weapons, not just adding 20% damage... and if there is correct me please.

Hmmm.... the word Socketing (from Sacred and D2) comes into mind... have up to 3 sockets for runes to be put in and when you customise it, you CANNOT retain the rune(s) unless an ESK is used

if its customized you shouldn't be able to trade or pick it up as another character, easy way to get rid of that

It would be nice if different weapons people did different customizations so that you can spec a weapon to be better for how you want.

Like make damage a certain element (yes i am aware that is a current modifier), or make your percentages increase by like 5%, or increase the energy increase on that weapon by like 1-5 depending on the level of the weapon.

Small increases like that just to add a lil flavor to the weapon customization but def wouldn't unbalance weapons.

What??? You can trade customized items? Now that is dumb, I didnt think it would be allowed.

That is probably to allow people a method of showing their weapon to another player simply out of interest, rather than commerce. If the ignorant get burned, they will learn (and I don't use ignorance here as a term of insult, but simply to say that not knowing something and learning is a normal process, even in a game). This game already does a lot of hand-holding. Let's not get carried away.

You can still salvage customized items, so I don't see why they should not be tradeable.

Its obvious that people will try and exploit that, come on. It looks bad that they didn't pick up on that in Beta. No newbie is going to know that customized means you can not use it. Its one thing to trade to view, but you should not be able to accept that trade.

If it'd be possible maybe you could make some kind of special item which is a very rare drop and worth a lot which can customize a weapon for yourself eventhough it would've been someone elses.
or a very high sum of money, that's more expensive than the weapon + customization items/cost.

Thats a good point I guess, how about going halfway then. A warning popup when you trade that says, "This item is customized, you can not equip it. Do you still with to trade?"

Oh, gee I'm sorry that having a customized weapon with your name on it meant so much that you wouldn't want anyone else to be able to change it...(sarcastic remark)

Here's what I really think... I think those of you that didn't like this idea are the "sorry !%&" ones that are freaked out that you won't be able to make a "quick buck" on those that don't know any better if GW goes along with something like this idea.

What a joke...to the one that commented that D2 didn't allow you to take out runes...You know what, it drove me crazy when I accidently put in the wrong gem or rune and couldn't do anything about it!

Besides D2 had so many downfalls to it that it makes the perfect model as to what online games shouldn't be. Not to mention that trading in D2 was so full exploiting it was sick! It took them how long to come out with the 1.10 patch to make a half way decent attempt to weed out most of the cheaters, scammers, bugged gear, and spamming that flooded the game before they finally quit on the game all together?

D2 is still a perfectly replayable game with people you know. Granted, I wouldn't play/trade with strangers due to the sheer number of dupes, hacks, and low-down PKers in-game. It's one thing to fight a fair PvP fight, but quite another to get ambushed at a wp by a player using a "hostile outside of town" hack. It especially sucks when it's your lvl 75 hardcore character.

ALL games have their pros/cons. All online games will have exploits and unfairness. You can't program how the other REAL LIVE people will play the game while you are playing with them. Someone determined to find a way to cheat you will find it. No doubt about it. People are smart and crafty.

i dont think they should take it out. Not coz i like to see my name on it, but because unless you get it made/its a start weap its YOUR choice to customise it.

To me the customising adding +20% is kinda... well i guess its like its your weap, you've used it for 'years' (roleplaying comes into this a bit i guess lol), you know its weird little habits, the imperfection in its balance and have learnt how to handle it. It's yours. No one else could use it to such good effect.

If you don't want to customise it coz you wanna trade it later on, well thats fine too. Again on the roleplaying front its kinda like you just grab the nearest weapon when called to arms and are good with them all, but not 'specialised'.

D2 is a good game, but it has some serious downfalls that should have been fixed or changed. Like trying to trade...nobody wanted gold because it was pretty much worthless in the game. You never bought anything from the weapons/armor merchants after a while because they only sold garabage.

Well, the whole point of having customization is that you customize it to gain more power in return for no one else being able to use the item. It's not supposed to be something that you can undo, and I sincerely hope it stays this way. Now I do agree that some people could use this to dupe others out of money, which is why I think the aforementioned pop-up box confirming the trade when a customized item was traded would be useful. But the point here is not to dupe others, but to be able to get an upgrade to your weapon for a price. If you could simply "un-customize" a weapon there would be absolutely nothing special about customization, as everyone would do it with all their weapons. It just adds another layer to the item collection, and I personally think it's a good change, although you probably disagree with me...

A warning message in trade would be good enough for me. Otherwise I think the whole customizing thing is highly over rated...I mean everyone is getting so emotional over "binary code"...In fact with all this emotion going around over customizing weapons i'm starting to feel that emotion spread to me right now...Johnny wipes a tear from his eye. (Just in case you didn't know, I was being sarcastic )

I think the thing about this game that is already developing is the need for people to find ways to set themselves apart from the crowd, by being better warriors or having strong guilds, etc., since there is no system where players really control territory, or build castles and destroy each others, and this customization helps to give players devoted to their weapons a slight edge over the competition, if that makes any sense at all.
