The crier in Lions Arch was saying yesterday that some kind of big Wintersday contest was gonna happen in 8 day's time...7 days today. Lets see....is that New Year's Eve or New Year's Day? Whatever, I hope I can be on for it.

New year's eve is a really bad idea for when wintersday will be held.
While Anet gets it right a lot and we have great stuff like these seasonal extras for free, if your gonna have an event, you don't want to compete with one of the biggest holidays of the year. You can compete with Halloween, but not something like New Year's Eve.
And a lot of people of school age play this game, they have off this week coming up. And many adults take the time off as well. Why not have the event on say, Friday night the 30th?
My only issue in an otherwise awesome holiday update.

Indeed, I'll be away on vacation, partying with family friends during that New's Year Eve. That whole weekend, actually. And if I miss the Wintersday event(santa hats?), then... oh well I guess.

Depends. I don't know if I'll have any plans for New Year Eve, my family isn't very into celebrating much of anything, but my friends might have a plan or invite me somewhere last minute. My friends and I are last minute type people so who knows..
