r/w or w/r

The next character I create will be a combination of the two, but I'm having a hard time deciding which to focus on as a primary. Both have a high degree of versatility so that I could play with many builds as I level up (r/w should be able to tank well enough with a good tactics and a shield, w/r should be able to use a bow just fine with marksmanship). The biggest problem is that I want to mess around with the build and experiment to see what works, so I don't have a given role in mind. Obviously it's easy to say that warrior is better if I plan to melee and ranger is better if I plan to do ranged, but I may do either depending on mood and available skills (though I know not to attempt both on the same skill bar).

So, what are people's opinions on the differences between the two? How does strength compare to expertise? Do any warrior skills combine particularly well with ranged attacks, or do any ranger skills combine particularly well with melee? I'd prefer to have a mix of damage and survivability, but be able to reconfigure my bar to focus more on one or the other if a situation demands it.

You need to decide if you are going melee or range mostly. If you plan on range, then go Ranger because expertise will allow you to use more ranger bow skills without always being out of energy. A ranged fighter with no energy is almost useless.

If you plan to melee more then you need look at the skills you plan on using. If any of them use 15+ energy you'll probably want to go Ranger primary because the ranger gets a larger energy pool. If you only plan on using one 15 energy skill and you don't need to use it any more than once per 15 seconds, then go with the warrior.

I went Ranger/warrior and I am using melee. The reason I went Ranger as primary is because I use apply poison along with cyclone axe to keep the monk on the other team busy.
