Necros + Ascention = screwed?

So I finally got the ball rolling on my Necro/Ranger. Almost lvl 15, with a little over half the map explored (still a large portion to go).

So after a while of leveling around the Temple of Ages, I noticed some of the undead zombie mobs summon the higher level minions (Bone Minions) which I assume here, are of better quality and power than Bone Horrors.

Naturally, I know where to get this skill, Droknars Forge, as I researched Necro skills a while go.

The disturbing part is, after searching the forums here, asking around ingame etc The only, sane, way to get to Droknars is via Ascention ala the dragons lair and such.

Now is it just me or does that not totally GIMP my ****ing build? I mean, ascention is what lvl 20 right, the cap off. By the time I get to lvl 20, other than grinding new items or money for other PvE alts (plus unlocking shit for PvP), the new spells I desperately need NOW, are useless to me. I mean, by level 20 I'll easily have a level 14 Bone Horror+ probably.

But seriously, is that ****ed up? I mean are there other ways to get to Droknars without getting Ascention? If so I'm seriously considering re-rolling this char as something else I mean, he is a Summoner/Pet guy who relies on Summons and his Pet to fight (at least PvE). But going ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE TOTAL 20 LEVELS without the next Summon spell?!?!?.....You gotta be shitting me

The game doesn't end with the level cap.

Correct, it doesn't.

But let me rephrase to not come across as thinking it ends;

To level cap a Summoner/Pet'er (or any Summoner for that matter), you need to fully Ascend, and get to Droknars Forge (correct?) to get the next TWO level Summon spells that you could have drastically used since around level TWELVE. (note I am not level tweleve, several levels higher).

That's bull SHIT.

Yea, I can still hunt mobs and do whatever missions/quests and gear grind after level 20, but I want those skills BEFORE level 20. I swear to christ how the **** can they design a class of character, that relies on a sub class of spells, but only give them the lowbie versions?

You can get to Droknar's anytime after Frost Gate. From Beacon's Perch head south into Lornar's Pass.

*Beacons Perch>Lornar's Pass>Dreadnought's Drift>Snake Dance>*Camp Rankor>Talus Chute>*Droknar's Forge

*city

It's a very long journey, and you have to go south through 3 monster areas before you get to the next city of Camp Rankor. If you try this way, be prepared for much death and quite a lengthy journey. Many many tough monsters in these areas, even at level 15. You'll see this when immediately after leaving Beacon's Perch you see nothing but level 20's+. Never made it all the way through myself, but I've heard it's quite difficult once you get to Snake Dance.

Here's the map if you'd like to estimate how much ground you would be covering. :P

Yea, I already tried the path south

It's impossible

Even with a full party of level 20's (minus myself of course), we couldn't even get 1/3rd the way there let alone all the way

Capture Siget is your friend XD

A lot of the later skills can be captured before ascension, so try that.

It's very possible that skill is available as a quest reward elsewhere in the game.

Just as others said Signet of Capture is the way to go if you want the Bone Fiend skill. I have seen necro mobs using this in missions around Lions Arch area so just load up the Signet and grab it when one of those suckers is casting.

I struggled real bad at first (Primary necro) .. yeh the trick is to definately fight a few times and then forumulate a strategy.

I then killed the mirror in about 20secs on my 6th attempt.. Does anybody know if i still get the bonus? And if so what it is?

Thanks

Nah Bone Minions can be gotton from fishermans haven, north of sanctum cay. And Bone Fiends can be gotten from one of the small towns in the crystal desert, both quest rewards.

I also made it to Droknar's by being ran there through the pass south of Beacon's.

It was a highly amusing experience, so I made a fun little screen of it. :P Get some skilled Warrior to run you there I think is your best bet to getting a bit of an edge before you jump into LA and beyond.

(Edit: I'm also a Primary Necro, got Fiends and Minions at Forge)

Edit:: Oh yea, topic...

Anyhow, i think the main reason for the skills being farther out, is to make people want to do some pve, and in some cases, for people that want a certain build... It makes them "have" to get there... i think it's their own small form of a "grind"(i use that word very loosely, as the only mmorpg i ever played was EQ, and that was a grind...) this game doesnt even know what that word means... it's all missions/quests...

You could have used aoe effect spells and done it easier ^.^

I personaly remember ascending with my E/N, killed it in a record of 6 seconds.

Skills:: Fire storm, Flare, awaken the blood, blood renewal... That's it, 50% more life sacrificed with blood renewal... heh... he killed himself, and it was quite funny to see... and yea... ai is dumber then humans, they dont get out of the aoe like i can... took me the time to cast fire storm + 1flare, while i did that, he sacrificed himself to death... whoop

You can go capture bone minion as you reach Lion's Arch. In Lion's Arch, talk to Magi Malquire to get his quest about the Orrian Tablets. Before Leaving, Take the quest from Bordus the Outfitter. While you're on your way to the quest, take a stop at Ascalon Settlement and get the reward for Bordus' quest from Sir Tydus and take the Reversing the Skale quest.

Go finish Orrian Tablet and go back the Lion's Arch to get the reward. Take the second Magi's quest about capturing a skill. Equip the Signet of Capture and teleport yourself to Gate of Kryta outpost, go outside and do the quest Reversing the Skale.. When you killed Lord Timot, Capture the Bone Minion skill.

Then you can go back to Magi Malquire to get the reward + a 2nd capture signet. Equip it for the mission D'alessio Seaboard and do the same to the Skeleton Warlok boss(i don't remember its name.. and he's not always there). He have the 2 Bone Horrors skill and Death Nova.

you probably got the bonus (I got the bonus on my second successful attempt - I got bored and wanted to try it again)
The bonus (at least for me) was a really crappy shield that showed up in my inventory. If it wasnt for the fact that I went in there with all my bags empty I wouldnt have even noticed it was from the mirror fight.

You can unlock alot of the later skills by getting the Signet of Capture. If I where you I'd keep at least 3 or 4 of them. There are alot of necro bosses in the Lion's Arch area for you to capture these late game skills.

Um...I don't know where I got them...But even before reaching the Crystal Desert, I remember having Bone Horror (lvl 16), Bone Fiend (lvl 16), and Bone Minions (2 lvl 11s). When it comes down to it, Bone Horror is the best of all. My death magic is at 14, making them level 16. Thats a nice boost to your group. Each one costs 15 energy. I thought about Bone Minions (2 minions for 5 less energy!) but then I realized that severe level difference makes aLOT of difference in combat. They fall way too fast. Lvl 16 horrors can walk with you a considerable way, and when grouped up, become a really large meat shield. I don't see the advantage of fiends, because they range attack for an extra 10 energy, but that means they stay back and are less capable of being a shield in a fight. If you really want those new summon spells, I'm sure you can get them all by the time your in the Maguuma Jungle. Just make sure you visit each area you can, and check for skill trainers everywhere, on top of quests. If you already did that, well, maybe I'm lucky :-\. When it comes down to choice, I highly recommend
that you use Bone Horrors in conjuction with spells like Taste of Death (use the minions health to fill up your own), Dark Bond (X amount of seconds, 75% physical dmg to you is absorbed by your closest minion), and Death Nova (for x seconds, if target
ally dies, deal x dmg to nearby foes and they become poisoned for 15 seconds). With these spells, having a Horror who has a lot of health and is quite hardy greatly helps when you need to steal it's health, use it's health to save you, or just become a bomb for the enemy. That's why I used Bone Horrors, and don't use the others. Hoped this helped out a bit .

Edit: When I say more/less energy, I mean in comparision to making 1 or 2 horrors. (15 nrg = 1 horror, 25 nrg = 1 fiend or 2 minions)

I did the same thing. Ok, it's a hard slog because it's so long, although with a warrior/monk but it's not impossible. He must just be crap at playing the game or had some really really bad lvl 20 players.
