Stalker Ranger Quest: Endangered Species

In the Endangered Species for rangers, do I have to give up my pet to get a stalker for the trainer? I hope not, my wolf is lvl 9 and I had him since he was a puppy so I really don't want to give him up (not that I could find a tamer to do so ATM). Having to give up the current pet wouldn't make sense as part of a quest.

Hmmm... should have searched - it appears I just have to kill one to get the skill I lack...
