Ok , you guys have been infinetly helpful to answering my questions, but i have a couple more.

1. When you create a charactor at level one, do you have any skills at all to start, which ones? Do they start you with some money to train some, or do they give you base skills you can sink a couple points in at creation?

2. Lets just say hypothtically you were a Mesmer, and for whatever reason didnt take any skills with you to a battle, would you have any method of attack at all, weapon or such?

3. Speaking of mesmers and other mystic classes, can they use weapons swords, axes, ect at all?. not as well?

thank you all

currently a lvl 1 character, for example, a mesmer will have a wand that they can attack with but no spells. your first mission will be for the mesmer trainer and he will give you some spells.

a mesmer would need to take warrior secondary to use axes, hammers and such.

1) As of last BWE when you make a new character you start with nothing, except your primary class's most basic armor. But, you get your first skills very quickly, shortly after walking out of town. You start with no money, and you won't get attribute points until you level, or complete some quests.

2) Yes Mesmers, and all the other classes can attack using a weapon, if they don't have any skills.

3) Everyone can use any weapon, but if they don't meet the attribute requirement they will do the base damage, or that weapon's base type. This means no matter what your Mesmer/NonWarrior would always do the same damage whether you have a short sword, or one of the upgraded versions.

As of the last BWE, no, not a one. However, the very first quest you go on hands you a couple of free starter skills, and there are a few other trainers for each class that will give you some more free skills.

The starter skills for each class:

Warrior: Frenzy, Healing Signet
Ranger: Dual Shot, Troll Unguent
Monk: Orison of Healing, Banish
Necromancer: Life Siphon, Animate Bone Horror
Mesmer: Conjure Phantasm, Ether Feast
Elementalist: Flare, Aura of Restoration

You begin play with a starter wand, a 2-3 damage ranged weapon to kill things with. You'll be getting extremely familiar with it as its all you have until you get your starter skills.

If you lose your starter wand and don't have any starter skills, you'll have to bug a trainer to get another one. They're pretty much worthless and quickly find their way into the garbage can as soon as you find anything.

Sure, any character can equip any weapon - at level 1 all of the classes are the same so you're actually best off grabbing a sword or axe and pounding away in melee. Only Warriors have weapon-linked attributes, though, and the better weapons have attribute requirements if you want to take advantage of their enhanced damage - so melee weapons are something that you should have grown out of by the time you're ready to leave Old Ascalon.

Very good, those are exactly the answers i wanted to hear I have high high hopes for this game. The fights look fast, as long as they arent insanely chaotic, I think is going to be an incredibly good game. thank you all for solid answers

Some fights are chaotic some are not, it all breaks down to good teamwork. If the team is well versed in the basics of teamplay then its less chaotic. Those who chase off after others, or attempt to dive in the middle of melee when they are of a weaker armored type usually end up getting a good dose of reality.
