Oftentimes people are so much more concerned about saving your ass, that they do not pay attantion to drops untill after the battle.
Do they deserve their drops less than you deserve their drops?

Well since you said that Tank 1 died at the beginning and didnt help at all, I would keep it. If he did not do anything at all then it shouldnt have dropped for him any way.
Yogi's Pain
We all have the same right for drops. And being the nice person that I am, not only did I congratulate him for his good luck, I reminded him to grab it before he no longer had the opportunity.
Now, bad for him and good for me. If you are too occupied that you don't notice the drop when it first drops, don't notice the 3 comments about it and don't notice it laying on the ground for five minutes then I have no qualms about picking it up. If you can't see that, then how are you seeing when I call a target or something?
And since I'm not the worst person in the game, I would have given it to him if he had noticed. But he didn't and I'm 7k richer for it.

It's yours. You couldn't res them up and it became unreserved, so it's yours.

I think you made the right decision in giving it back. I would've given it back as well.

I had a very similar situation. I was a mesmer and there were 4 people in our team left (monks had left), after a fight, I was the only one left, against 4 or so ice imps. I managed to solo them, there was an Icy dragon sword belonging to someone else on the floor, after about 5 mins of soloing the imps I managed to get the sword, then I decided trying to solo the next group of about 10 imps.
I gave back the sword when we respawned, not really too bothered, it's only a game and I don't need the money TOO badly

I thought silence was the golden rule.

Without a "kick" feature, I believe in fulfilling luck of the draw, and giving someone what's theirs, whether they earned it or not. Next time just go solo or with people you know and can trust, and there will be no controversy. When I have to split drops between me, myself, and I, there usually isn't much drama.

i can really see who is the greedy jerk within this thread,
make one more friend by giving back the swords, make tons of enemy by taking away his sword. ( that tank1 can spam alot of ppl telling them u steal his loot )

Thats just my two cents, I think that you should do what you want with the sword.

I wouldnt give him the sword, I wouldnt keep it myself either. Go to LA and sell it.

It's all a matter of how you want to be as a person. You're obviously a person with a conscience, since you even ask the question and care about other people's opinions.
If you give it back to the guy, you're being a nice and generous person. If you keep it, you're being selfish and cheap.
Remember, this decision will affect all your future decisions in similar situations. And it doesn't matter if "it's just a game". People's behavior follow patterns, online or in real life.

I am a nice person, but I believe that if you do nothing to help, then you do not deserve the drops, (I hate people who join for a mission and then just go afk and take all of the left over drops without doing anything to earn them).

I would have given him the sword, I’ve had to many people take drops that where mine, thunderhead keep comes to mine when you take out the two mobs before going threw the gate, and we as a group didn’t make to the items before the time ran out, or we all died and had to make a long run back to the area. Guess that’s why I don’t play with pugs anymore.

Why can't you grab a drop while fighting? If you can't find a group that will get you through a mission then you are the problem that is causing the failure. PUGs are not great and they never will be but they are successful over half the time. If yours never succeed, then take the common denominater and do the math.

the only reason NOT to give it to him is if he left the game, not just died.

People are wild cards; a PUG is so random that it could make the mission you've done thousands of times successfully ... impossible.
Anyone who has ever played the sole healer of the group will also recognize the difficulty of picking up drops immediately. "Hmm, I could go get this dye or I could let someone die." (Assuming you're aware of anything but health bars at that point.) Luckily most of the time I'm in guild groups and we call stuff out about each other's drops so there is no confusion.
Meanwhile, if this guy is simply a poor aggro manager, does that mean he doesn't deserve his sword?
How many of you who say "keep the sword" would just shrug your shoulders and walk away if the same thing happened to you? That's a tough area, it could have been any of you.
OR has the same thing happened to you, and you are taking your revenge on this poor guy? So petty.

I think that you should give it back, unless it was already there for him to pick-up and he was still alive. (which is not the case).

In fact everyone should take a rez with them, or the chippmas elves will punish you. |
may be there is no slot left for rez with the build

I played once as monk in FOW, the shard just dopped right at my feet, but I was too busy on healing others to pick it up, finally it became public, one dude tried to pick it up and died right at my front, I rezed him and he picked up my shard, but everyone told him that it was my shard, after the battle ended, so he gave it back to me.

Wow, I didn't expect this to go to 3 pages. I DID decide to give the sword back. I whispered the guy and told him to let me know when and where to meet in game. He met me at the Citadel and I gave it back to him. He even put me on his friends list after all this.
I'm definately glad I gave it back and didn't keep it. I even managed to pick up another one later that night. Thanks for all the input everyone.

Sofonisba
YAY for you, InvisaFehz! Good job.
I don't believe in karma, but I'm glad you ended up with one of your own also.
