More valuable than IDS

I could have posted this in the IDS thread, but I prefered putting it here. Tuesday night I was out, again, for the famed IDS playing my Warrior/Monk, Rynn Ironstorm. There, at Granite, I made two unsuccessful runs, respectively my 25th and 26th run since Friday. IDuring those outings, I saw the blade drop a dozen times, but never for me. I decided to give it one last run, because after so many outings I wanted to more of the game than Tasca's Demise and Mineral springs, especially since I bought a second account.

The group had a total of six. One left all of a sudden but we decided to push on anyway just to see how far we would be able to go. Halfway into Mineral Springs, our second monk dropped. Our team consisted of me as the tank, one necro, one monk and one ele. Despite being disadvantaged, we pushed ahead. we fought, died, ran back up, died... But we had a good mechanic and pressed ahead. We got to the cave and managed (God knows how) to clean it. We even cleaned the Ice Beast corridor further up. An IDS dropped, but again and to my deep sorrow, not for me.

I cannot hide the fact that I was angry because I was kind of tired of always making the damn run for nothing but junk. There, one of the team members asked if we were up for another run. We all agreed but I informed them that this would be my last run for the IDS. 28 runs would be enough. Instead of meeting back at Citadel, one of us ran back to Tasca's Demise to zone and then zone back into Mineral Springs.

The fights were tough, very tough even if the spawn was a bit better. Our four man team managed once again to get to the cave where we got whipped a few times. We managed to rez but died again, this time around taking the last imps with us. Incredibly enough, an IDS dropped, but not for me (again). It was destined at our valiant monk (who had too much of a tendancy to tank a bit, offering us some comedy along the way).

The whole team rezzed near tasca's Demise and the team went up again but me. I remained at the rez point, contemplating yet another fruitless run. Since the lucky monk would only have to walk up the cave to pick up his IDS, I remained. I was about to map travel back to Granite when I saw the rest of team, dead. they had been caught by a large group of Avicara we've had to avoid.

So I decided to make my way up to the cave myself. The group of Avicara had dispersed, leaving me a clear path. Along the way the team thought that I would take the IDS and run off, one heck of a cheap shot. I went to the cave, picked up the sword. A team member was fuming over me, telling me that he would spread my name as a cheap #$&#$&#$^&.

After picking up the sword, I went up the cave and suicided at the hands of Azure shadows. I then rezzed near my team mates. I clicked on the monk's name and proceeded to give him the sword. Like I said I would.

After a few moments of silence one member said that honor could still be found in this game. A few more moments later the monk asked me if I wanted the IDS. Of course, but it was his. He opened up the trade window, gave it to me, asked me to equip it and then started dancing around while the two others cheered.

to this I said to the team; One thing is more valuable than an IDS, or any weapon, and that's honor. with that, we all added each others on our friend's list and parted.

To Plains of Ashes, the necro. Polgara Flamehair, the elemental with the awesome AoE. And to Xiao Plate, my tanking monk in Hugh Hefner pyjamas, you guys were the best.

If you ever play with these people, believe me, they're tops as far as team spirit goes.

Thanks guys!

I can't be mean enough to post first can I?

Sure, why not. Who cares its just a game, you have no clue what honor is.

Apparantly, you have no clue what class means. Or courtesy, or tact, or sense.

To the OP: thanks for the story, it was good to hear something pleasant for once.

Everything you do in game, and in forum for that matter, reflects your true character. I'm glad I don't know you in real life

Wow, that's fantastic. Good to see some people exsist in Guild Wars who would do that kind of thing and stay honest.

For all you people saying that it isn't honor... It may not be, but it is an honorable action.

It's true, honour does exist in the most sensitive of gamers. Games make people happy, not least knowing you've got something you can trade for a huge load of game cash, to make you rich (well, if you're not a 100s of K farmer) for your 'lifetime' in a game. So, no doubt the monk was pissed off with you, so did the other members of the team become. And then, you gave it to its rightful owner. He is so honoured, he thinks about the circumstances. This person played this part of the game to get this thing and give it to me. He could have just zoned away with it. But no, he gave it to me. And so he thinks about that person, and how kind they are, and thinks they deserve it more than he does. Honour, in a game, there's a true example of it. I loved that story, thanks.

It was a good story, especially as a contrast with the other IDS thread where the guy ponders the ethical question of whether he should keep a drop that belonged to someone else. I was amazed that there was 3 pages of debate on what should have been a no-brainer decision.

Yours is a corny story, grin, my favorite kind.

Those who dont think this was a display of honour, fail to understand the definition of honour used in this sense. Adherence to an ethical code of conduct and one's word is honour. The OP certainly displayed that by returning the sword to its owner.

So I was drunk when I first posted and didn't remember the story. After reading everyone else's posts, I decided to read it again.

I stand by my statement. The monk was only nice after you where nice to him. By insulting you as you went to loot the sword, it showed a lack of class.

So I ask, who was the one showing honor? You by doing nothing but letting your team die and then go loot a sword? Or the monk by insulting you?

Haha, I think you must still be drunk. He didnt let them die, they aggroed a group they had avoided previously, not his fault at. Again, you miss the point- he could have kept the sword, but he returned it to its owner. Now you could argue that it is a silly point and minor thing or that we have fallen so low as a society that we praise simple acts of honesty. These points would be interesting and possibly thought-provoking. Unfortunately, you choose to display your own lack of class. How low a society we have fallen indeed....

LOL Well it appears that you have no clue what honor is. There is a wonderful thing called a dictionary. Try using it before spouting off at the mouth next time.

Per Miriam-Webster online:

One of the many definitions of Honor
8 a : a keen sense of ethical conduct : INTEGRITY b : one's word given as a guarantee of performance

Hmmm.....Sounds to me like it WAS Honor.

To OP, great story. Good to hear one like this after reading all the other bad stories posted here.

he didnt mention the monk having a go. all he says is that ONE of the team was bitching at him. Besides, thats not the point. The problem is that 99% of gw players have the kind of attitude a few have shown in this thread, i.e. haha if i can look out for me, stuff everyone else.

Despite the fact he could have easily gotten something he wanted so much, no, he gave it back to its 'rightful' owner DESPITE people expecting him to do the wrong thing.

I already wondered about GW players, but moaning and whining about someone who did the RIGHT thing... this is a new amazement for me...

Anyway, back to the true point: Congratulations on finding a small group of people who may become very good in-game friends, there aren't many people out there you can do that with. There is no denying it; a friendly GW player IS rarer than an IDS You can't farm them...

Thank you for the definition. Put those bags of wind in their place. They probably would have split and run. To the OP, good story.
I too have given one away. I got two on my sixteenth run, solo. And gave one to my guildy simply because I said I would. Heres the kicker, it's not a real item folks, and though you may have spent a ton of time trying to get one, no one forced you to, nor does it give you the "right" to act like an ass.

Bethany: I agree that your decision was an honorable choice.

I solo that cave ALL the time, though it got really tedious, so I started going with guildies. I brought 2 other guildies along, and 4 IDS dropped over a few trips. 2 went to one guildy, and 2 to another. One of them gave me her 2nd IDS (I hadn't gotten any yet at that point), and I was thankful. The next day, 2 drop for me, so I return that guildy's gift Next run, 2 more drop for me AFTER I died. The same guildy grabbed both IDS and gave them to me without hesitation after we returned to Granite. I gladly gave one back to her. We're still splitting the drops... it's only fair

So I go back to droknar's forge, and someone named Angel of Virg** (name hidden to protect the guilty) is spamming "WTB major vigor rune." I have 2 un-ID'd major vigors, so I anwer their reply politely. "stfu noob" was the response I got. How's that for gratitude? This is one example of the dishonorable trash I never want to know IRL.

Heya Bethany

Just wanted to say firstly, congrats on getting the IDS, I know that you have been after one for most of this Xmas season. (what a nice gesture)

And secondly, to say that yes, what you did was a very honourable act, and should be applauded.

Personally I have met many honourable people all over the land of Tyria who place friendship, courtesy and valour above all else that is material.

Keep well friend.

I'm the first one not to make a big deal about items. I care more about the integrity and character of the perosn playing, not the character itself.

If you don't know something, ask about it. People might call you noob, but you learn something and will remember.

If you get scammed, it is a lesson to be more careful.

If you get a crappy team, it means to spend more time making teams or to just get over it. If you spend the next hour complaining, it is not going to do you nay good.

Nice story, Bethany... I would have done the same thing. I imagine you're not a spoiled teen/kid who has no value for honesty and fairness, or with a poor sense of morality. No, you're quite the opposite. Bravo to you.

Although I admit being bad can be fun at times too, but only if they were bad to you first. Hehe...

All this fuss about an IDS..
You know what would be better than an Icy Dragon Sword?

An Icy Dragon with a Sword

I know that I would do 28 runs to try to get that pet, and if the pet fell from the magical dragon tree for someone else and my whole team was killed my wanna-be fairy's that throw ice at you and make you walk slower, I would pick it up for them. Then I would give it to them, and I would have honor.

There's a on going thread around here "The Biggest Jerk" encountered on GW. Maybe it's time to start up a new thread of the best things peeps have done on GW.

I've been playing GW for a bit over 2 months now, and I still consider myself a n00b. If I didn't have peeps helping me over the time then I'd still be stuck in ascalon =p (well maybe not that bad) I've already been scammed and abused, and quite sick of it. But there are quite a number of decent people out there playing.

btw, to all the jerks in GW who feel to the need to swear in every single sentance, it gets you no where and doesn't improve your conversational skills. if need be, learn to use a dictionary!
