I was curious to know what kind of machines people use to play GW, how many monitors, video cards, etc, etc, etc. Ill start with mine, Now i know you can write anything in here, perhaps a rig you would like to have or a dream machine but lets be honest and post about your current Weapon of choice for playing GW....

MIne i recently created this rig about 6 months ago!!!:

1.AMD DUAL CORE 4800
2.3GIGS OCZ MEMORY
3.DUAL 78OOGTX PCI-E
4.DUAL RAPTOR 74GIG RAID 0 10,000RPM
5.DUAL iBM DESKSTARS 1TERA BYTE RAID 1 7200 RPM
6.AUDIGY 2ZS/BREAK OUT BOX
7.WAVE MASTER CASE
8.QUIET COOL 850 SLI PSU
9.4 20MM FANS
10.LIQUID COOLING ALX
11.WIRE MANGEMENT
12.DUAL PLEXTOR P7-A DVD/COMBOS
13.AND 3 23" VIEWSONICS 6MS/800:1 CONTRAST monitors
14.ASUS MOBO SLI

This is my general gaming rig, i play BF2, battlefront 2, Cs.s, quake 4, and a few other online games, i know this is overkill for GW, but dam if they would only support 8x or higher AA, the graphics would be even more insane lets hope the expansion pack will allow for higher details settings for ultra high performance rigs!!!

Oh my rig is completely stock!!! no overclockin needed!!!!

Thanks,

With a system such as that, I'm going to need pictures to take you seriously.

This is my gaming PC. I have another three used for Linux and a home network server, the third being in pieces currently in a box under my desk.

AMD 64-bit 4000+
ASUS A8N-SLi Premium
Two 7800GTXs in SLi
1gb Corsair RAM
Raptors in RAID 0 (waiting for another WD drive to go with a spare for 0+1)
2 80mm Akasa fans
600w Seasonic S12

with my own wire management in an Akasa Eclipse case.

You'd need 2 Monitors then, to make use of them at all. ;s And what's the point of 2 Monitors? ;\

And you only need to use 1 Graphics card anyway...

I think you miss the point of dual videos cards in SLI mode, the cards wiil act as one unit, even though there are to videos cards, So no you dont need 2 monitors to view the image in fact you can have 4 monitors pluuged in to the 2 video cards but they would all have to be the same refresh rates or specs>> I currently have three Monitors all the same running off this rig 2 LCDS are synced together to make a 46" screen (thin bezeled LCDS work the best dell and viewsonic make some really good LCDS for cheap) and the 3rd one is used for watching dvds or surfing the net!!

Well if you perfer to run 1 video card thats your choice but i on the other hand want the best possible graphics from any game i buy, and my rig reflects my taste!!!

4runner is right, Josh. The idea behind nVidia's SLI technology is similar to what 3Dfx did back in the day with the Voodoo2 cards. You could run 2 Voodoo2 cards together in SLI and they would alternate rendering even and odd frames to give you around 1.6 times the fill-rate. Since video cards have lighting and geometry processors now the even/odd line trading doesn't work (the geometry and lighting need to be rendered per-scene), so nVidia's version of the SLI concept involves 2 GPUs taking turns rendering entire frames. As one frame is being displayed the other card is busy rendering the next frame, and so on. Depending on the game, you'll see as much as a 70% frame rate increase and as little as 0%.

@4runner, 3GB of RAM? Do you know that your RAM is running in single-channel mode? You need to use an even number of modules for the Athlon64 memory controller to operate in dual-channel mode.

You mean, if I put in 2 (not that I would, let alone try afford it) Sapphire X1800 XT 512MB PCI-E cards onto my Motherboard, it'd run my Computer with both of them and 1024MB instead of the 512?

not many real world applications- your fine 4runner

• Dual channel memory makes little performance difference with the Athlon 64. The only place you will really see a performance difference is in synthetic memory benchmarks. Most real applications just do not use memory in a way that can benefit greatly from dual channel memory.

No Josh, well not kind of..., umm here goes, SLI technology is purely Nvidia, So your X1800XT's(if you ever get any ) wont work, HOWEVER, you can now get ATI CROSSFIRE Boards that will allow you to use 2 ATI cards(pretty similar to SLI), The beauty of Crossfire is that you don't need identical cards, they can be mixed and matched, i'e you can have one X1800XT and one X1600XT, pretty good in theory, how well it works is another question for another day.

DEX, mate you dont need equal matching sticks of ram for dual channel, this PC my old one has 3 sticks(2 512's and 1gig stick), The 2 512's are in the dual channel slots, and the 1gig one is in the last slot, it works fine in dual channel, just as long as 2 sticks are the same it's fine, Well it works on my old Asus A8V...

Built this rig my self beginning of 2005. It plays all of todays games with generally good fps. I mainly play CS:S and GW and it does fine in those. I am however lookign to upgrade to a 64bit CPU and 7800gt along with 1gig ram soon.

Interesting. I've never seen a board that does that. Then again, I've only had 3 Athlon64 boards, but all of them switch to single-channel if I put in an odd stick regardless of which slots I use.

It's true that you probably won't notice a tangible difference gaming between dual-channel and single-channel mode. I wouldn't go out and buy new memory for that reason -- I was just pointing out that you may not be squeezing every ounce of speed from your hardware -- something you seem quite interested in doing.

EDIT:
I misspoke. One of my Athlon64 boards is socket 754 and isn't dual-channel capable. However, I tried every possible combination of modules in both socket 939 machines this morning and could only get single-channel mode when I use an odd 3rd module. Also, if all 3 modules are not exactly the same I can't even get the system to POST -- I just get beeps and a memory error code on the LED on the motherboards. Not sure yet if it's the motherboards that won't do it or if it's the Corsair XMS Platinum Series RAM I'm using in both systems. I'll have to do more research and get back...

Mine is a tad old (at least I believe my speakers are), but the rest I upgrade now and then.

Windows XP Pro
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.20GHz
Nvidia GeForce 5500 FX (Driver 78.01)
1GB RAM
Samsung SyncMaster 793DF/793MB
SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio
ACPI Uniprofessor PC
Microsoft PS/2 Mouse (Wired Laser)
Standard 101/102-Key Or Microsoft PS/2 Keyboard
TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552B
---
Purely NVidia graphics cards since the dawn of time. Since the latest generation of games (BF2, CoD, etc) are starting to get more demanding, won't be long until I may be getting a 6800GT or something.

Mine sucks, kinda, but being only 14, I don't have a huge pit of cash.

Intel P4 3.2
1 GB RAM (2x 512 running in dual channel)
2x 80 GB SATA HDD (no raid)
LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM Drive
Gigabyte Radeon X300 Graphics Card
Flexiglow Cyber Snipa gamepad
Logitech MX310 optical mouse (usb)
Standard Keyboard
XP Pro
Acer 77c 19" CRT monitor

Looking to upgrade graphics card soon, then get another 1gb RAM.

I haven't had any need to do any real upgrades at all this year, which is cool. Runs GW just fine, which is mostly all I play anyway. I'm in the unlucky position of not being able to upgrade my system. I'd have to rebuild it to improve it... I'll have to get a new CPU, Vid card, and motherboard. Thus no hurry.

Because they're the fastest, most over-clockable, most stable, and most feature-rich motherboards you can buy. I was going to get the new one (DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR Expert), but it's still $200-$250 and I don't overclock anymore, so I got an equally good (for my purposes) and cheaper board.

From 2001 to 2003 Abit came out with some absolutely incredible high-end motherboards. They were all the fastest around, had amazing overclocking capabilities (and really established the idea of jumperless overclocking a la SoftMenu), and had every feature an enthusiast could want. Suddenly toward the end of 2003 Abit started losing steam and there was a new overclocking contender: DFI. The reason? A guy named Oskar Wu, the guy who's designed some of the best motherboards of the past 5 years. In 2003 Oskar left Abit and joined up with DFI. Since then DFI's LANParty series of motherboards have been some of the best around.

How do the new LANParty boards stack up? At the top of the stack. I made a concious decision not to buy one for many reasons (price, wanted more legacy support, don't overclock, etc.), but they are consistantly rated the highest on hardware review sites and such.

EDIT:
Here's a head-to-head review if you're interested. It's not the newest LANParty board, though, which is somewhat better than the one reviewed...

Needs to be upgraded but i think my 15$ couch is higher on the list of needed upgrades. Runs GW smooth with no AA or 2AA and everything else maxed. I think im gonna wait for skt. M2 and the X1900 series b4 i do an overhaul.

Here's mine I had for about three weeks now all straight from newegg

Athlon 64 3200+ Venice
MSI Geforce 7800GT (only one)
Asus A8N SLI Mobo.
2gb RAM (forgot the brand but it works great)
Aspire 550 PSU
ASUS DVD Writer (Specs not really needed)
ASUS CD-RW Writer (I kinda messed up so I ended up with two but that's fine)
X-Infinity Apsire LED Case. (Comes with two fans but the PSU is freaking huge with 3 fans in it.)
250 GB SATA HDD
Norton 2006 Antivirus.

Cost: 1300 USD
FEAR, COD2 (came with the v-card), Half-Life GOTY edition, Guildwars etc..

Seeing how good FEAR and HL look so damn good and runs so smooth I can't see why I would put another 300$ into a second 7800GT right now. Maybe later though.

4runner I must say looking at that...monster I have to think you have a nice job or something.. I was lucky to get my stuff thanks to a lawsuit.. =P

I wasn't sure if I should use a sound card but the mobo is fine for now..

QUESTION: With the A8N SLI Deluxe or Premium mobos with the realtec sound system has anyone had problem with sound when you first set it up or the mic? I found this many others had this problem as well.. I installed some drivers to fix the sound (but the mic is quirky but it works anyway =P)
