People that play this game...
Dixie Wrecked2
I've been playing for about 2 months now and I'm on the verge of quitting because of the kinds of people I've come across while playing. A couple of weeks ago, I was in a party of 6, doing a quest in the Maguuma Jungle. Granted I could probably do the mission with myself and some henchman, but I decided to play with people on this one. First off, we had to run through a couple zoning points on the map to get where the quest spot was located. After about 30 minutes of fighting, we got to the last zoning spot. One guy on the team would not let us go any further. As soon as we started going in the right direction, he would simply rezone and make us all go back. He found this hilarious for some reason. I soon got over it and redid the mission with henchman, but still it ticked me off knowing now that I just wasted 30 minutes for nothing.
Now I've met many people as immature as this, but some just stand out. Another came yesterday, while doing the Frost Gate mission in a party of 6 again. We didnt have the best party, 3 elementalists, 1 monk, 1 necromancer, and me, a ranger. I brought my resurecting spell because I knew I'd need it. At a certain point in the mission, 3 of them died, (2 elementalists and the monk). Before I had a chance to blink twice, they were screaming "REZ ME!". Meanwhile I'm still fighting. After we kill off the last of the nearby enemies, I resurected the monk, and 1 elementalist while he resurected the other. I offered to give them each a candy cane to remove the 15% Death Penalty, and instead of saying "Sure, thanks." or "No thanks, I've got plenty"..one says, "Its only 15% percent, I dont need it" and the other says, "Death penalty is part of the game, RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO Candy canes"...Now I'm mature enough to brush it off, they're probably 12 year old kids having another shitty day, again coming to realize they're fat little computer obsessed nerds with no real-life friends....But anyways, long story short, it seems to me that the majority of the players online playing this game are a bunch of pricks. I know there are good people out there, but it only takes 1 shithead to drag down 1000 cool people. If you're one of the previous spoken, do yourself and everyone else a favor and quit ruining nice people's fun. There's no reason for it, and no need for people like you. Grow up.

Unfortunatly this is the curse of all online games, you are never going to jsut get nice normal people, you are bound to get people that are immature, racist or simply a pain in the ass.
You have to just learn to put up with these mistakes of nature if you are going to take PUGs. The best thing to do is get a nice guild or some close friend or just group with a few good people for a few missions.

Online Games.... you get morons and nerds that think they're better than you and that they have more knowledges about this game..
Real Life... these morons and nerds saw that your rich and actually have a paying job (unlike them who lived with their parents and have no income) are cursing that they'll forever have to follow George Lucas's path to become a "Imaginary Jedi" or become the ring keeper to become popular like me or you.. .takes a -1000 Slap of Dooms to their ego!
It's cool, sometime you meet these type of weirdo online but most of the time, people like me (or others) are fun to team up with. Don't let the game get to you, its a imaginary places and you shouldn't get worked up about it.

i used to get very offended by assholes.
i can still be hurt by them, but i have grown a thicker skin and am able to "lol" and shrug it off.
it takes time (took me 4 months ) but you'll get there...

Thats why i take out my anger on Counter Strike.. and since i'm a admin on the server.. if you break the rules and act like an moron.. i'll admin_slay, slap, and ban you so i don't have to deal with you.
It takes a while to get used to them. In fact, i got yelled as a noob when i don't follow their orders or do what they wanted.

I do that, if someone calls me something or makes a negative comment i just type "LOL" as i can't be bothered to have a conversation with them as they arn't worth my time.

Sure online games will have their share of rude f-tards, but I've played quite a few in my time and I have to say that GW ranks high on the list of worst gaming communities.
Mustache Mayhem
you forgot about runescape =] but yeah gw does have the worst pugs ever in any game- just the way it is I guess.. best to play with people you know or solo- free game though, if there's a penis drawn on the minimap it's representin the guildwars side!! if you were a monk you'd probably turn into one of those guys

I find in general for all online games the people that i play most with are people from all the different forums i frequent, which means elements are discussed and there is a much more friendly feel to the gaming.
GW is the only game where i haven't played with people from forums or with friends, i have met plenty of really nice people but only since i made my monk character as i was in so many groups.
I avoid major cities apart from the oasis for when i need to clean my bags, as the constant spamming of every channel and the random non english speaking farmers that run up whispering 'You buy 3k ok' while trying to trade in every city.
I think the sheer numbers of people that are playing at anyone time makes it almost certain that you'll meet a pain in the ass or 50.

My Guild has been attempting, on and off, to find (not necessarilly recruit) mature players (30 yrs and older) with a working TeamSpeak and all we get are crackpots and jerkoff kids. We've given up for a while. It's a shame because we're a very small Guild and don't quite have enough members to make the GvG rounds. All of us are a bit childish at times, but take our gaming seriously. It's too bad others can't do the same.
Markaedw
I think the biggest reason we get these guys, is the game is free. $15 a month is a bit of a filter (granted not much of one). Also this game does not have a jerk build or jerk guild, a way that we can tell right of the bat what kind of person they are.
The best thing to do is when you get someone that played well add them to your friends list, and don't worry about it.

If you want to become jaded to insults, play diablo 2: LoD for a couple months. After that, the angry adolescents in GW will seem like nothing.

Basically what everyone is saying is, if you team up with pcik up group, expect at least one person that will be an immature moron. I used to just pair up with Guildies or just do it with henchies. Its just the way things are, GW is no different from every other online game, there will be a-holes running around, but there are some good people too.
Sir Skullcrasher
speaking of playing other online games. Play Counter Strike. It more fun and hard to endure the yelling and constant whinning from different peoples. So play that for a month or so... it will prepare you for those jerks in Guild Wars!
Lord Of Losers
Kane i know how you feel about a small guild and not being able to GvG. in my guild we have only 4-5 (including me) active members. our own damn leader is offline for 3days to a week. cant blame the guy when his girlfriend lives with him in his dorm room, lucky guy.
now back to the topic. i have to agree with all of you on these pricks. thats the only thing i hate about any online gaming. hearing the word "noob" and anything related to it, just plain stupid. it doesnt faze me in any other way. i dont even see why they bother saying it.
well now that there are solo builds, i usually just go out with them to avoid meeting ppl. if i happen to be in a PUG i do two things. 1) dont talk at all and just mind my own business, i know how to do the missions and if they need to do something specifically, i'll follow the orders even if it kills us, cuz at the end the entire team will just flame the guy. 2) turn off my team, local, chat so i dont have to listen to them. once again, i know all missions and objectives, but just to be safe, i usually stay around the middle of the group and wait for someone to lead the way and i'll just follow. wouldnt matter if they were cursing at me or not because i wouldnt know it in the first place since my chat is off.

Yeah thats the main downside of guildwars you can't yell 'OMG HAX' everytime you die.

I'm amazed that people are still under the impression that anyone here gives a shit about your quitting. Uninstall the game and leave everyone else in peace, you're no better than anyone else who plays this game.

Morons and nerds?
Why would the math professor who can make a moron out of you be a moron himself?
Why would a fat lardsack who sits in front of the TV watching soccer and football have a high paying job?
Stop your ridiculous stereotypes, you jocks are no better. Moron.

What can help: Join a large, active guild. Add active, nice people to your friends list.
Off topic: We have a lot of small guilds in this game. All have the same problem of not enough people online at the same time to do the PvE or PvP that they want. The problem is that everyone wants to keep their guild and recruit others. The best solution IMHO is to start merging guilds.

Well, my thoughts on the subject are ... wait ... ladies and gentlemen i'm getting some breaking news ... *listens to earpiece*
It seems that earlier this evening, a moron was found in an online game ... sources report the moron was behaving irrationally, poking fun at others, and typing messages in an incoherent manner ...
This is unheard of in an online game, to this date.
Authorities report the moron is on the move, so should you run across him in your travels, proceed with extreme caution ... as he may lash out with insults and strange actions if approached ...

While you will run into poor sports a lot of the time, it's not correct to say that the entire community is like this. In fact, all this thread is is stagnant ranting and flaming, so I'm going to close it.
There are more constructive ways to go about the problem. Arguing over "jocks," "nerds," and "losers with no life" is not among them.
