I have a close friend that I know personally that is willing to give 100 platinum in GW1 for 10 gold in GW2. Is this a pretty fair deal?

I have a few purple, but mostly white... is that worth anything? Also I'm really new to the game, not really sure how to sell stuff or find...

Is there any reason to keep minis once I have dedicated them to HoM? Can I just trash them?
