noob to ritualist
sparks
OK don't flame for this question but I know nothing about ritualist.
from 5-20 I know that you do a lot of skill swapping learning and such.
But what skills should you be focused on to just make it thru?
What secondary is a good one for support in this.
Are people leveling in factions or going back to the old core to level?
If so how do you get from one to the other
thanks big time for any and all help

There really isn't a right or wrong answer on skills to use. I'd recommend that you play around with as many of the skills as possible until you get a better feel for what you like.
For the most part, the ritualist is like the monk class in that you'll fill so many of your slots with primary skills, it's hard to find room for secondary skills. I know a number of rits whom love the ranger as a secondary. I love using the monk as a secondary for rebirth. Necros make a good secondary for blood regen. I met a rit who went with mesmer as a secondary for the ability to steal energy.
Since monks are so hard to find for groups, you might find it easier to get groups if you place an emphasis on the restoration line of spells. Restoration allows you to heal and prevent damage, somewhat similar to a monk. If you say you're a healing/defensive rit (and assuming it's true), you'll get more group invites.
By the time you get off "noob island" and reach the mainland, you should be at least level 16. I'd recommend that you hit level 20 and get max armor gear in factions before going to the original lands. Much faster.

Restoration is tricky to use. If you want to be the biggest help to the group, and if u want to find groups easily, cap Ritual Lord as soon as possible (well, it wont be that soon tho) and go with protection (Displacement Shelter Union build).
But this isnt mandatory, u can really play Rt in so many ways.
Dont bother yourself with secondary profession. You wont need it until you reach Senjis Corner where you can change it. And even then it's very likely you wont need it. The only time i use secondary is when i just like having Charm Animal so my phoenix accompanies me. Or when i go farming so im Rt/Me. When doing mission, personally i have no reason to use secondaries.

Well I guess that only being level 6 I should know better than to think you could do anything LOL
but what florred me was I can give someone a weapon with +2 regen on it. OR I can give a super weapon that does alittle more damage. Or I can cast a spirit. WOW it looks cool but didn't seem to do much.
Maybe I am looking at this all wrong, or am I just supposed to sit here and look stupid (DONT answer that LOL)
Am I missing something or ?

Naw, you are not missing anything. As all characters, low level characters are not supposed to be powerful people.
I took a Rit/N because I wanted to try to be a MM with the ability to heal as well. I already have a N/Me so I wanted to try it with a Rit too. I've completed the game without Ritual Lord, so its not the be all and end all. Having said that, you can be a better Rit with it though.
When I solo (with henchies) or if (and this only happened once) we had 2 healers in the party, I became MM. With high level Spawning and Restoration or Communion or Death Magic (Necro), you can do a lot of protection/healing for the group. Once you get Boon of Creation, you'll see that you'll be getting some nice energy and health back for each spirit you summon (it works with MMing too). Energy management is great with Boon of Creation or with Essence Strike. With a Spirit in the area (any spirit will do), and high level of Channelling, you can use Essence Strike to do damage and gain more energy than you use. This is good energy management.
I love my Rit/N and never thought about changing the Necro. Mesmers are another good choice as are Assassins and Rangers.
Teleportation, spirit spamming, additional energy management/hex removals, are all good.
To get to Tyria, you must go from the Island to the mainland, and then go north. You will reach Keing Center (or something like that). Get the mission that makes you talk to Master Togo and then get on the boat to Lion's Gate. Then you are at Lion's Arch (just walk from shore to the city).
Hope this helps.

thanks for the info.
I just made level 10 and in seitung Harbor.
There are a lot of new skills here, most seem to be IF this, then that type of thing.I am a little disappointed in this. I do not see any direct damage and very few heals. Most require something to do something and to me this is a little frustrating.

Insanctified
You are still in pre Wait till you get into Kaiteing or Marketplace and you will get a ton of skills. As direct damage, there are FEW of them, but the ones that there are are VERY powerful.

I'm also thinking of making a Ritualist, but I already have a Monk, a Ranger and a Necromancer. Will I be bored, and with those weapon spells can you make a melee ritualist?

You won't be bored if you like your monk or like a ranger or like an elementalist. I have a Rit/N, and I wasn't bored at all.
Yes, you can make a melee ritualist or a range ritualist. You can only have 1 weapons spell at a time though.
I know people have made w/rit, a/rit, r/rit. Weapon spells have been used with Barragers, Axe wielders, daggers, wands, staves, etc.

Tamriel Cyrodiil
Great results using Brutal Weapon with Barrage, as done in the pre made PvP build. I went on an 11 game winning spree in Random Arenas (later 1 team) with that build. However, it could have been the rank 9 monk in the party
The Ritualist class is one that requires alot of thought. You are able to deal damage with Channeling Magic... or you can make spirits that protect your team and deal damage with Communing Magic, or you can attempt to fill in for a monk with Restoration Magic. On my Ritualist, I personally prefer using Communing. When you can reduce damage to only 30-38 damage pre attack max you are well excepted into a group.
As for the second profession thing. I like to make my PvP Rit's 2nd Monk for Extinguish. It's a hefty energy cost... but it's really helpful in times of need (apply poison or poison arrow rangers for example).
Also, to the person who didn't want to be bored. You shouldn't get bored with this class. I am constantly making and remaking a Rit in PvP to use new skills that I unlocked. However, Communing, like I said, is my favourite, I am unlocking Channeling skills now to see if the Ritualist can really live up to the spiking potential of the Elementalist. Restoration is too tough for me to understand. I'll unlock those skills last, after I get a very good feel for the class.
Remember, even if you like something others don't... and you get yelled at for it... You like it... and this is just a game
Hope that helped.

Well I have done about everything on the island and just made level 15.
I was a little impressed with my lighting damage after the 2 15 atribute quest.
I hit for a little over 100 with all of them. Of course I have seen some that are resistant and take about 40 OUCH
But I still feel the ritualist is missing something...but he is still young.
Is this the time to leave the island...the reason I ask is I see tons of level 20's here and can't figure out why.
The last quest was nice, we were a mixed bag, level 20 assassin, me a level 14 rit, a level 11 monk (hey he had been around) you could tell he knew his stuff.
and a level 10 ranger...I expecting the lost son quest type and we would get our arses handed to us in no time. BUT we made it thru I died once. The monk about 4 times and the ranger, I can't count that high LOL
The assassin was awesome, I was very impressed with his style, and he only came close to dying 2 times, but our little monk who I said knew his stuff pulled it out.
So at 15 do I leave the island, I can't find any more quest, can you come back if you get your butt kicked

I posted this rit build before for pve... it worked great for me...
Ritual Lord, Boon of Creation, Shelter, Union, Recuperation, Life, Feast of Souls, Res
As for lvling.... its faster in factions because almost every quest gives you 3000 XP... as opposed to prophesies that range from 100XP-4000XP with the exception of UW/FoW.

Yes, you can leave the island and comeback without any problems.
Level 20 is what you will be facing on the mainland. So should prepare yourself for fighting level 20 monsters.
Sometimes Tyrian characters travel to the island. I have all of my Tyrian characters (W/R, Mo/E, R/Mo, N/Me) visit the island.
If you completed every quest (including 2nd profession quests - completing every quest for every profession prior to choosing your secondary profession), and the many quests on the west coast of the island, then yes, its time to leave for better things. You can stick around helping others do quests, so you can gain some minor exp, but why waste your time.
As long as you have the best armor you can get on the island, you can go to the mainland and buy better armor. The henchies are all level 20 and you can have upto 8 party members (including yourself).
My Assassin is level 16, and she has not completed all of the quests.
Good luck and enjoy.

Well I am on the mainland and level 20.
Still can't figure out a good build, since I am mainly using
henchies. I have been as far north as Kaineng Center and west
to Vizunah Square.
Do I have to ascend or ? just curious how you change secondaries.
I have no plans to do so but I wanted to know.
where do I need to go from where to get to areas so I can start
looking for caps and be able to do some farming.
thanks for info

sparks I didn't see any of your posts that mention what your secondary profession is, so I won't suggest any builds that will include a secondary profession.
The "ascention" is at Nahpui Quarter (Closer to the Stars quest). Beat that city mission and you should get to Senji's Corner. At this city, you can change your profession for 500g.

Since you don't have Twisted Soul or Ritual Lord, I didn't mention them in this build. There are no Ritualist bosses in Naphui, but there is a Necro, Mesmer, Monk and Ele boss. So bring a Signet of Caputer if you want.
Channeller:

Spirit Boon Strike
Spirit Burn

thanks for the help.
I have played nothing more than an attacker with lightning skills, sure I do over 100 with all the spells (on average) but I have played to tahnnakai temple with nothing but henchies and have seen some hard areas but NOTHING like this mission. I made it thru the first 3 but man I hit the 4th one and got swarmed.
I have captured one elite, tranquil was tenasen. that was the only boss I have seen.
I realize that I need to change to something else. Right now I have mes secondary but have used nothing from it. I just started this chr as my first in factions and heard about the farming builds so what the heck.
It seemed that everything I read has ritual lord and until you get it you are just junk. No one really talked much about what made a ritualist before the ultimate skills...and being new to factions I was surprized with i saw the difference in the game compared to the original...Most of it I did not like but some I did.
I am going to go with the channeler and see how that works, do you max channeling then what else do I need to put points in?
again thanks I know I have to change.

sparks Good for you with doing all quests and mission with henchies. I never did that.
I have a Rit/N, so I MMed my way through about half way, and healed the other half.
I don't think I ever caped Ritual Lord, and if I did, I still haven't used it at all.
Channelling is good when henching, but with PUGs, they will need healing/protection more than damage.
Henching the Temple mission is tough, since the henchies don't want to heal Mhenlo or Togo.
You should have seen the boss in V. Square. It has Weapon of Quickness elite.
I put points into Spawning for several reasons:
Spawning gives Destruction more health, it is required for my weapon (level 12 spawning), it is used for Boon of Creation and Explosive Growth.
The rest goes to Restoration - for Flesh of My Flesh.
Hope this helps.

Ok everyone get ready for a quick laugh of my original take on the ritualist.
I thought that a ritualist was a jack of all trades, master of none.
It could sit in the back, not take damage and throw out some spirits.
NOW I didn't expect much from them (still don't LOL) but I thought you
would throw out 3 spirits of healing....some players would get some heals or regen and an elite spirit would give massive regen. OR you could do damage, not a lot but some with spirits, 3 or 4 doing 10-20 damage each maybe every 3-4 seconds. then an elite spirit damage dealer that lasted a little less but did more damage with a chance of something like knockdown or poison. Then you have the protection ritualist, 3 spirits that give different types of protections, one protects party from some magic, other to protect some from physical then an elite that gives a lot more protection and maybe some type or reversal.
that was what I thought a ritualist was. Spirits did something but not very well, of course you had to decide what type of spirits you would carry, since you could not carry 3 or even 2 types with anything else...2 types would be max.
but as I said none of them look to be anything that would be dominating. YOU WOULD not heal enough to replace a healer, or damage enough to replace a warrior.
I guess its just me but are spirits worth a damn ROFL
I mean not some last inning whoop arse but something that you take in groups thru the mid to late game that really helps a party.
just me and my stupid game play I guess

well I made it to house zu heltzer on one side and the jade quary on the other.
NOW I am stumped. I can't get any further and can't get any elites to make a build with.
WHAT do I do?
yep all henchies...but even though I can kill stuff I can't figure out what to do now.

Pick Me
You must choose. Kurzicks or Luxon. If you choose Kurzicks, then you must obtain 10,000 faction points for the Kurzicks. You do this by doing all of the quests that the Kurzicks give you (max is 10,000 points, so no overflow).
DO NOT DO QUESTS FOR BOTH! Do one or the other, do not do both quests (Luxons and Kurzicks), because you will lose faction points from the other side (min is 0 faction points).
Spirits are worth a lot.
Shelter - defense
Union - defense
Both are similar to Protection spells (bonding) provided by Monks, but cannot be stripped and affects all allies.
Pain - does damage
Disenchant - removes enchantments from enemies, like Spellbreaker and Obsidean Flesh
Dissonance or something - interupts each time it hits
Life - heals allies in area for x amount for each second it exists (upto 30 seconds)
Recouperation - global mending for all allies in area
Destruction - does x damage for every second it exists to all enemies in area (upto 30 seconds I think)
Are you telling me that these spirits and others like them are useless?
Don't forget, Boon of Creation (non-elite) and Exlosive Growth (non-elite) gives energy and health and damage to enemies near spirits summoned. So when you summon Pain or Life, etc. you can gain energy, health and deal damage. What's not to like about spirits?
Remember to take a Sig of Capture, as there are different bosses scattered throught that jungle area.
Good luck.
