ANet's endless creativity
Ristaron
When ANet released the original Guild Wars, we all thought they couldn't make any more original professions for the game... but then came the Ritualist and Assassin, who proved very different than all other professions. After that, we all assumed they couldn't come up with any other new professions... but here they have a support combat shout-caster (resembling a bard from Dungeons and Dragons), and an assassin bred for combat (the Dervish, who instead of doing hit-and-runs dances into the middle of the fray).
Personally, I think they have finally exhausted all original ideas for professions (unless they start making 'Fisherman' or 'Duck Hunter'), what's your opinion?
(On a side note, I wasn't interested in the Ritualist when Factions was being spoken of, and was only partially interested in the assassin... but for the upcoming professions I'm rather excited. It's probably my personal opinion, but who else followed that thought pattern?)

I think they exhausted the ideas already. Dervish and Paragon sound awful, and it's a shame they feel it mandatory to include two new professions to get people to buy the update. It just means it will be lacking in other areas.
I would much rather play richer PvE and more thought-out PvP with existing character classes.

They have creativity and have done thier research to do so. If people look at the classes and do research on the real people, they will find alot of true history and chararistics behind them. I think even with the enwer chapters that WILL come out they will keep it up.
I excited for the Dervish I love the elegant fighting style that we are sure to see with thier arrival. This chapter will be very good, a bit early maybe but still very good and successful.

I agree that they are creative and sound cool. I'm excited about the combat buffs that will be provided by the Paragon, almost like bosses in RTS games. I've been disappointed by the shouts of the warrior. Watch Yourself? Hmm that's nice but it there's nothing to boost your team's attacking ability.
You may be suprised what Anet comes up w/ in future editions. I imagine they will eventually have to have races other than humans.
Goblins = Inventions.

I like new professions, but I don't think 2 new ones per chapter is good. Maybe just this chapter then leave it.
MtG doesn't introduce 2 new colours every expansion does it?

I think that there will probably be a new game mechanic introduced in the new chapter, maybe something like an Aura or whatnot, that moves with the Paragon. I believe they said others would be influeced just by being near him, no? I'm sensing something new. I'm pretty sure eventually a technology will be included, yes, that would be primitive guns probably, maybe even alternate forms of spellcasting *gasp*.
ANET said there would not be new classes every chapter. By the end of the series, I'm guessing there will be 6 classes after this. (no-4, yes-5, no-6, yes-7, yes-8)
Then again, if you don't expect much, then when you get something good, it feels better : )

Well.. I don't know about that. Theres tons of ideas, Anet just needs to listen. Check out Sardelic, the voting thread makes it evident what the people want.

Those two new professions sound interesting. Can't really say anything else before I have tried them.
So many professions to choose...90 different combinations. That is crazy.

So no, I don't think there are lack of ideas.
However, I am somewhat disapointed by their choice of new class to be add.. The two new one just sound so unoriginal and like another clone of exisiting class combo. Even Assassin and Ritualist are not that great too. I sure hope A.net would do better.
Won't even go into PvE... they really need alot there too...
WeiPing
The classes seem cool, but what I'm really going to need is a lot more pve than Factions provided to make it worth my while.
If you wanna charge $50 for an expansion, you better make sure it's a pretty darn good expansion. I don't think I got my money's worth from Factions.
I'm hoping they're alternating focus between pvp and pve. Not being a pvp player myself, I get the feeling Factions might have had more pvp content to make up for a relative lack of pve. So, theoretically, Nightfall will focus more on pve than pvp.
If that's the case, then they may have just won my money again. If not...

I think they went too broad on the warrior, that limited ideas for other classes really.

Yes... and after playing Diablo for a couple of days cos my internets crashing, i'm now trying to cast TPs before bosses...
The Dervish sounds like a paper armour wammo.
Tbh i think they're completely destroying necros now. Everything they do seems to bring more and more anti hex skills, now we get an entire profession that gives resistances to them.

Paragon seems interesting, but that brings up whole new issue with ballancing shouts with enchantments and stances (i.e. having a fair number of counthers like later two). We already have binding ritual and weapon spells that fall into neither category and have serious advantage over old types of skills.
Dervish... I fail to see fundamental difference with existing melee classes.
Edit:
welcome to the ele world where every other class have interrupt/shutdown skills or simply very resistant to your attacks

A guildy of mine posted in our guild announcement with no other explanation :
Dervishes and Paragons -WTF- is that worth extra cash
To be honest I didn't understand what the hec it was about at first(we post a lot of random junk in our announcement at times) and thought it was food. ^_^
Anyway, the dervish sounds fun, but I'm confused - is it 70 AL like Rangers and Assassins or is it 80(?) AL like warriors?
Truthfully, I think Arenanet is a bit overcreative here - A Glorified Scythe wielding paladin and a spear chucking buffman? okay, I know they need to make sure every class has some damage to it, but that's a little far out of the box, but I think they're cool anyway.
Don't worry about the Necros though, lol, I'm sure they'll be as cool and wicked as ever.
BTW: was anyone else a little creeped out that both the guys were wearing a skirt/dress or think that the paragons were teh ones in the robes at first?

i myself think these 2 new professions are much better then assassain and ritualists, i think they are great ideas! I would like to see them make professions ike one person said duck hunter and stuff, i know it sounds dumb but a class that has one specific goal would be intresting.

We got a wammo class (dervish) and a r/w class (paragon).
Yays. Now I can make a wammo/mo. Oh the joy.

i think the new professions sound good but i agree, new professions means lacking in other areas. for example new skills for the already made characters we have grown to love. how many repeated skills were there for my ranger? bestial fury, tigers fury...sundering attack, penetrating attack. their creativity for characters are great but their creativity for some new skills not so much.
Rogier
doesn't sound too good to me, i'm already fine with the 6 basic ones, i really don't need new one, and i hope Anet will do better with the PvE campaign

And how many times do I have to say that the team who does the skill balancing, skill making etc etc are NOT necessarily the same team that does PVE content, PVP content, weapon art, character art, etc etc.
One area of the game development does not necessarily affect the other....blah blah blah.

So much negativity... I read the news and was excited by the announcement and the new classes. I've always loved a paladin type holy warrior, and now it's gonna be hard keeping my W/Mo as my main. Nightfall sounds like a great game in the making.
I need to find some new forums. The negativity here from so many people here is disgusting. Take a break. Go spend some time outside or something. If the faults of an online game are too much to handle that you have to troll and flame you need to take a break.

Well, I sure hope they make 10 slots parties, or else someone's gonna be out.

Well, when they announced assassin and ritualist, all we thought was "another warrior and another necro/monk hybrid."
The dervish sounds like it'll be a "real" paladin, not like the current wammos, who are tanks with energy for 1 heal. It sounds to me that dervishes will have the types of spells that will say "heal target ally for X, they gain +20 armor for X seconds." or "transfer a hex fromtarget ally to you." You know, "real" paladin-like spells. Their melee abilities look flashy like an assassin. When fighting people, dervishes might remind you of the dancer class from soul calibur 3, where their attacks use their weapon in cool looking ways to make a dance.
The paragon sounds like Amazons from D2 (java/spearzons). They have the combat abilities plus the spear attacks.
Think of all the things they could do for chapter 4. Druids (which im waiting for), perhaps a real monk which uses his mind as well as his body for damage, a psion, or any other class from other rpgs.

Now on to MY opinion: Yeah it's a shame that that included two new professions. How dare they? It's obvious that they have only one team working on the whole game. If this team is working on new professions, then they won't have time for other stuff! I say fire all the artists and hire more programmers so they can put out more game!

I think Anet may be rushing a bit with the new chapter..

I like the ideas for the new classes, but I'm still waiting for the "shapeshifter".

dervish - Any Muslim ascetic orders, some of which perform whirling dances and vigorous chanting as acts of ecstatic devotion.
plus a dervish is equivalent to a muslim monk or friar
so the dervish twirls around with a scythe attack a few people at a time and using shouts/skills
Paragon - idk i googled it images and i got angel looking freak
so they didnt stretch anything lol

When I heard about the two new classes, I was excited because they sounded 'cool'.
After I read about them, that just adds to the proffesions that I could care less about. I wasn't interested in either the Ritualist or the Assassin when they first released them, and I am not very interested the Paragon and the Dervish classes.
The plot and gameplay in that game better be freaking amazing for me to get it. Otherwise, gogo Neverwinter Nights 2!

Paragon sounds ok and most likely the one I play.
But in all seriousness I am sick of just playing human models.

both profession interest me. when they were discussing factions and introduced the Ritualist and Assassin i was mainly interested in the assassin. And I still love my assassin. Then i made a ritualists and enjoy spiking and buffing my team up. I never was interested in buffing my teammates up until I played the ritualist.
Now that they introduced the Paragon and the Dervish, i can't wait to play both of them. Now that i dont mind being a team buffer i'm willing to make a paragon. The dervish profession sounds great too, it will be my first profession that I will make.
P.S and geez everyone in these threads are so negative. stop being such game freaks and enjoy the damn game, especially the professions that Anet comes up with.

I bet they have a notebook already filled with ideas for new professions, otherwise they wouldn't announce that they would release new chapters every 6 months. (Their also doing that so they have enough money to live on, due to the non monthly payment)
Also, I think the new professions suck, totally lame.
