ANet's endless creativity
Konrow
I personally love these two new proffesions. Unlike many think they are actually very creative and fit in well with the desert concept unlike the rit which imo was better suited for an african theme too. Anyway I can't wait to testdrive these proffessions and see how that scythe works in combat. The dervish seems like it's going to have less armor though since its cloth not metal while the paragons seem to have metal armor and might actually be a support class with better armor. who know i just can't wait to see.

"Duck Hunter" .... now thats an idea. especially if the game comes with that little plastic gun (im telling my age here i bet) and they add pet skills that make your pet fetch the dead ducks. one of the devs already mentioned jumping, so they could then add a mushroom that makes you bigger and a flower that lets you shoot fireballs! then with chapter 5, when you jump you can whirl in a "screwing" motion and kill any oponents you hit in the air ....dunno what they could POSSIBLY call that
in all seriousness, i dont think theyve revealed enough about the professions yet to pass too much judgement. the dervish sounds pretty interesting so far tho. im still up in the air about whether ill even keep playing this game after the last update- i actually played some over the last 24hours and yeah, the warrior is getting pwned much faster now. its too frickin bad i really enjoy necros and mesmers or i know id be done. if im still around tho, ill probably wait a while before buying ch3 incase the new profs end up being duds.

A scythe....ANYTHING but a scythe. The Dervish will be such a newbie magnet becuase of that weapon choice...
"GLFM for Mission - NO DERVISHES"
and to konrow, I believe I read that Dervishes will have a flury of enchantments and self heals aimed at compinsating for their possibly lower armor.

On a recent trip to europe I told my girlfriend that the bardesque figure and a "dervish" exact word used would be likely next chars.... creepy. Now i hope we either get 2 slots or are able to buy more soon.

But yeah, I wouldn't buy the game until there are some real positives in the game. New classes just aren't enough to take 50-60 dollars away from me. The new classes don't sound all that exciting either.

The current Dervish discription says they gain protection from "agility" and enchantments, rather than high AL.

And how many times do I have to say that the team who does the skill balancing, skill making etc etc are NOT necessarily the same team that does PVE content, PVP content, weapon art, character art, etc etc. One area of the game development does not necessarily affect the other....blah blah blah. |

I have to say I love these two new profssens i want to try them out!

I've been wanting to use scythes in guild wars for a long time.
also, remember that as guild wars progresses, the world will advance and change. if they start introducing new stuff, it will be easy to make new classes. I can VERY well see them making a pirate-type character, maybe with the use of guns. "Vampiric Flintlock of Fortitude"
the one thing I am worried about... if they keep adding in new characters, I want to see new weapon upgrades. I want a weapon upgrade that is meant specifically to help my class. Like maybe the assasin one: Kris Daggers of Wrath, with a +% to strike twice. Or a ranger one: Longbow of Flight, which increases the range/speed of your arrows.

The Great Al
I don't think the dervish is all that original. It basically seems like an earth elementalist with (presumably) better armor and unstrippable buffs. Basically like what the earth elem SHOULD have been.

no, i'm pretty sure it's the dervish...
ZomgZergRush
My warrior already uses a scythe, its called a "Vampiric White Scythe of Warding".
I like the idea for Paragons though.

Lady Lozza
I like the ideas. But then I'm all for new and "not WoW or L2".
Curse You
To start off, I like the ideas and I don't think we know enough about these new professions to say "OMG they are 4 n00bs". Remember how everyone was putting down the assassins and ritualists, based entirely on what they thought the classes would be like?
Now with the Paragon using all sorts of buffing shouts, I just hope there will be some way to actually counter shouts.
Also, about elves... no, just, no. No elves, I'm pretty sure Anet stated that they will not be doing elves, EVER.

Well, in my humble opinion I think Anet has very creative ideas and very good ones as well. Of course not All of them are executed 100% like developers & the gaming community was hoping for but hell, that's why they keep improving them all the time.
About the two new professions, they really sound interesting, cool, worth to try for. In the Factions, I haven't ever wanted to try assassin and made an additional Mule from 6th slot, but in Nightfall...I'm definately going to make both new professions.
Every game gets better when it gets older if developers don't shut down creativity channel . More flesh around the bones so to speak. I don't usually want to compare two games with each other but look how Dark Age Of Camelot, with bazillion professions, still manages to bring new things to the game.

Well I think there should stop making new profetions with this next chapter, the one thing GW as suffered is that after a while it can be so repetitive, factions was all about grinding. after the next chapter comes out I would love to see Anet focusing on PvE and PVP content and forget about doing more classes.
They are indeed very creative, when it comes to making the game atractive, and balancing it out. But they better work on content for ALL classes, instead of new classes, because a lot of people is already feeling that only core classes will get new stuff, wich I think is a mistake, imagine someone who bought factions first, ahh what a disapoiting, your rit and sin wont be getting new stuff instead try this 2 new classes that wont get continuity as well! ¬¬ hermm I hope thats not where Anet is going with the later chapters.

i'm just a bit worried that all this goes way too fast. i don't doubt that they can come up with original and new classes and skills for every new chapter, but i think that 6 month intervals is way too fast. theres still a lot of things i have to do before the new chapter comes out and i somehow feel like i'm running out of time. i spend all my gold on factions release for armor and skills and i seriously doubt i can gather enough skill points and gold to get me a started with chapter 3. of course i'm looking forward to chapter 3, i just wish we were given some more time. 1 campaign a year would do for me.

I agree, I wasnt to interest in the new factions characters, but the nightfall ones do look quite interesting
lazuli
I haven't even touched Rit and Sin yet (besides having them as secondaries for my monk and ranger to fiddle with) even though I got the CE. The nightfall classes on the other hand sound like classes I'd actually want to play. Now, if they could only fix the potential problem of having to hench everything after the first week its released...

Personally, I think they have finally exhausted all original ideas for professions (unless they start making 'Fisherman' or 'Duck Hunter'), what's your opinion? (On a side note, I wasn't interested in the Ritualist when Factions was being spoken of, and was only partially interested in the assassin... but for the upcoming professions I'm rather excited. It's probably my personal opinion, but who else followed that thought pattern?) |
If they fear they would be copying or not being original, why dont they include their own races such as the TENGU or CHARR.
<<Not being realisting below just giving a example>>
It might add a twist to play as the bad guys, could you imagine the amount of and interest it would spark up, if we could play as the charr and get a better understanding of the charr, that would own kuzerick verse luxon lol.
Regardless adding non human characters is not a bad thing.

Guild Wars is good game but against WoW it lacks. Need things like player does Alchemy things and Alchemy stat go up and give ability to do more advanced and valuable alchemy. Make world size districts with private dungeons etc. Monsters spawn again and only current style is used if quest need private area to work.

However Guild Wars has around 2 Million players, at around $100 each (for both games) thats around $200m one off payments, $100 for each game, and that has to last around 6-12 months until the next expansion/stand alone is realsed.

Hey for all those who don't like the idea (STOP DOING THIS, THE GAME ISN'T EVEN OUT YET, STOP PASSING JUDGEMENT, THERE IS NO POINT)
I couldn't think of anything else they could come up with when factions was announced. But then they brought us;
1. Item Spells
2. Weapon Spells
3. Lead Attacks
4. Off-Hand Attacks
5. Dual-Attacks.
To think Anet is already out of ideas is stupid. This should be a thread for discussing the new upcoming classes. Not to be the obligatory whiners/bashers-for-no-reason people.
Right, hopefully I drilled some sense into some of you people.

There would only be one other profession I might like to see someday - someone came up with the Alchemist on this forum somewhere I think...short of that, no, there's really nothing else. The first 6 professions are the best, Ritualist isn't too bad...too many more would mean too much choice, it's already too difficult to decide on secondary professions as it is...

a-net will not run out of ideas soon enough. but at some point, there has to be a change in the expansions. you cannot keep creating new continents over and over again. what planet or world would that be with 20+ different continents? dimensional portals maybe on expansion 5 or 6 content could switch and develop relationships between the different continents, or just develop the stories of the different lands in depth. like exploring charr territory, finding out what turned the wardens against the humans or even exploring the destroyed lands off orr, maybe even exploring the sunk city of arah. from the guildwars lore: "The beautiful city of Arah was consumed. What’s left above water now lies in a pile of ruins", but who knows what you may find under the water? if with every expansion there would be a new continent, it would get boring in the long run, adding new classes and skills would not help that much imho.
a-net will keep coming with very exciting new content, i don't doubt a-net's creativity for 1 second. if only they would give us more time to enjoy the wonders we already have

I remember that i read something about the developers saying that WILL BE new playable races in the future. And that they said that will be no happy-dancing-forest dwelling-flute playing-fairy shapeshifting-tree hughing-pointy eared elves, thank you very much ANet. Well... we do have our gothic oriental tree hughers, but they are much more original than elves.
I agree that Charrs would be a nice addition since they have a very good background and we don’t know much about the Charr lands. In Factions we have Kurzicks and Luxons fighting against each other, that’s a mini-horde vs ally GW style, Charr vs Humans could be the like an expansion-wide Alliance Battle where every player, no matter wich of the expansions he has, could participate. Or maybe be able to play with Shadows from the Shadow Army that are taking control of FoW and could start to come to the “player-world” through the rift in Tombs of Premieval Kings.
I’m pretty excited about playing with Dervishes and Paragons, loved the concept of both. I remember a friend of mine being disapointed when Factions came out, he was expecting Spear-wielding classes because, acording to him, a long time ago the devs said that spears would be implemented soon. Well... i think he’s happy now.
This is what i like about GW, altough it’s not REALLY original if you compare to table-top RPGs or books the game Story, mechanics and classes are much more original than every other MMO out there. And we will never ever have elves.

dealing with the pargon, I wonder how well it will hold up. I really want to know if it will be a pvp base charactor! how well it will hold up in missions.
this will determine where anet wants go with this charpter, it will also tell us it will more like factions forced pvp!
If that is the case I will not be buying this chapter!

I don't think this is the end of new classes. There are only 3 melee fighters right now.
I expect 1 more melee class probably using claws or somesuch and probably one more support class.
