Rather than writing that all out myself I'd thought I'd post this here for all to read.
It's all sounding great but it does seem to be that the assassins/ritualists will have no additional skills in this, or unlikely to from the conversation.

Sigh. The alternat access to elite missions was promised aaaaaaaaaaaages ago, and still isn't out? (I'm not there in the game yet, but it's still terrible that they haven't fixed that.)

"Character slots are coming "VERY soon"."
"No additional character slots for the upcoming PvP Preview weekend"
Hmm...
If this means we will get character slots shortly AFTER the event it seems this is a very poor marketing strategy for Anet. They would be wise to release the slots with the event start. The only reason I think they won't is because of Gaile's information which said there will be no additional slots for the event. Lets hope I'm wrong.

Gaile ment no character slots SPECIFICALLY for this event, it has been a request by the community for a while now, to have a slot special for these types of events so they can participate when they use every single character slot they have.

I'd hate to have to delete my new ele at HzH just to try out the new classes.

Not like it was ever that hard for any Kurzick to get a free ferry from oOo when they held house and EoE now. Donno what things are like on the Luxon side.

Oh well. Guess I will wait for the PvE preview then. No way am I going to kill off one of my lvl 20 characters just to be able to do a weekend preview of Nightfall. A pity, I would have enjoyed a romp around a PvP event when it is full of noobs (like me), watching all the dedicated PvP'ers turn purple because I didn't bring the latest and hottest build.
How long before all the wannabe Dervishes and Paragons are slaughtered by core profession characters brought over specifically to be able to crow about how l33t they are? 12 hours? 24 hours? No longer than that, I bet!

Look at how they work. Build a counter build. Jump into RA and kill all of them because they are new at their classes.
fun fun fun.

Hero vs Hero won't blow the socks of any pvp player.
This saddens me. I hope the skills are worthy of pvp, else this chapter will be disappointing for me.

Or, here's a quote:
"Hey, all,
Just a word that we hear you, and are currently working on solutions to this concern. I don't have specifics yet -- the design team is meeting to discuss various options and you know how super-secretive they are! But there will be an alternative means for players to access Elite Missions.
Do remember the devs will devise, discuss, and then test this new means of access. They'll amend, if necessary, or roll out if all is found to be good to go. Basically, nothing is easy, or simple, when you want to do it right. So give us a month or two to finalize this system, and we'll share more with you as it becomes available!
Thanks for your thoughts. To those of you who expressed your concerns so constructively and with such support, an extra-special thanks!

Been several months and not a word.

That elite mission comment annoys me as well. Those of us who were in TC worked hard and saw that as a great achievement well worth the headaches.. Im hoping that doesnt mean theres a possibility that its not happening.
I've heard different messages about the current alliance ferrying, and while its nice when alliances do ferry, I'd like to see the alternate access in the future..

But content-wise I think it was pretty good. Maybe not that great for PvE, but it was a big push for alternate PvP modes. I just wish they'd do one of those more sizable patches that were released during Prophecies that fixed up some design flaws.
If Nightfall will have a focus on PvE, I think that sounds interesting, and I wonder how the custom henchs will be assuming that isn't a false rumor. If done right, they could be very nice for PvE immersion and characters to grow "attached" to a bit like how it was in the Baldur's Gate games.

According to Gaile Gray:
WOW. Talk about moronic. No wonder they're losing in sales to WoW. These "stand alone" games have no focus.
What did PvP get in Factions that PvP did not? 4 New random comp arenas and 4 new guild halls. All of which require no purchase of Guild Wars: Factions.
Now you're probably thinking "Allience Battles". However, you do allience battles by treking through PvE missions to join a fictional PvE allience. You win allience faction which can be used for controlling PvE towns, which give you PvE missions and a reduction in price of PvE items or you can use the PvE faction to buy PvE amber/jadeite to craft PvE armor.
Random 8v8: Only accessible by PvE characters. Again, it gives PvE rewards.
What pisses me off most, though, is that Factions was advertised as a game that would seemlessly blend PvP and PvE, favoring neither. Now all of a sudden after they get their sales off Factions was PvP?
Puh-lease.... If Factions-quality chapters is what's in store for the PvP crowd, why even bother purchasing new chapters? For new skills only? Why don't they just make a "PvP Edition" of each chapter, where you purchase only the ability to unlock the new skills/weapons/proffesions on PvP characters at a redused price? $30 perhaps?
What concerns me most is that Factions was A.Net's idea of a PvP based game, so what can we expect from Nightfalls? Even LESS PvP content? Is that even possible?

As other people have said, PvP got very little new content other than the new classes. AB are not PvP. It's PvE. You are fighting for PvE awards with PvE characters in a PvE fiction.

The main reason people are quiting this game and its on the to-do list? Good game Anet get a clue.

I think ABs are addicting. I enjoy them a lot ^__^ There was the change to Halls...the introduction of two new classes. I mean, how much more can you really do with PvP?
Thekonflikt: I wasn't aware those were the main reason people were quitting GW. O_o What world of GW do you live in? Mostly I thought it was the lack of original PvE content, and then the nerfing of skills to an excess that most people complain about...

There are many differant kinds of PvP modes that can be implemented (1-on-1s, free for alls, a PvP style akin to FFXI's ballista, PvMvP), new Heroe's Accent maps, etc, etc.

A note to everyone worrying about the PvP and PvE content of Nightfall...
As far as I know, there are two different ANet development teams. One that worked on Prophecies and one that worked on Factions. Based on the fact that Nightfall's been in production for a while now, I would assume that the Prophecies team is working on it. Now here's a quick rundown of the PvP-aspects of Prophecies and Factions. This also includes how PvP influences PvE.
Prophecies:
Since it was the first campaign, it introduced all but one type of PvP we have so far. This includes RA, TA, HA, and GvG. However, the only part of where PvP affected PvE was the Underworld and Fissure of Woe. However, I have heard an UNCONFIRMED rumor that drops are better when a region has favor. I have no idea how old this rumor is or any validity it may or may not have.
Factions:
This game introduced Alliance Battles, which are a PvP element. PvP stands for Player Versus Player, in other words, any game mode where you fight against other human players. Thus, Alliance Battles are without a doubt PvP.You do not need to have stepped foot in Cantha to join them, all you need is a Factions account key and a guild that's been allied with either side. Then just go to the AB through your guild hall. Fort Aspenwood and the Jade Quarry are PvP too, though they do require having done certain PvE things.
The game also integrated PvP and PvE much more. Alliance Battles affect town control, and town control depends on Kurzick/Luxon faction, which can be gained either in AB or PvE. Elite missions, which are PvE-based, can be accessed by being "ferried" by the alliance controlling the town, which got faction by doing PvP, and some PvE as well.
Thus, expect Nightfall's PvP:PvE ratio to be similar to that of Prophecies. There will be new PvP modes, of course, but the Prophecies team specializes in PvE, and keeping it separate from PvP.
Some things I would really like to see...
BigTru's suggestion of free-for-alls is nice, though I'm unfamiliar with the FFXI ballista thing he mentioned.
I would personally HATE to see 1v1's being added. Bring an interrupt mesmer and you have an advantage against most casters. The system would rely too much on luck, and not enough on player skill. Random Arenas suffers from the same problem, in that a team with a monk gains an inherent advantage.
Another thing would be getting faction with other gods by performing certain things in PvP, like using a certain type of skill, (maybe +1 Dwayna faction for using a Monk skill, idk) and then tailor specific rewards to the classes they represent. Maybe armor, skills, runes, idk.
I think the PvP is fine though, except more maps are always nice. You have most aspects covered already, high-level organized fights, smaller organized fights (TA), random fights (RA), larger-scale strategical battles (AB)...The only things I could think of are adding in a free-for-all and a VERY large-scale battle, like 30v30 or so.

wow,I wonder if WoW has the flood of conspiracy theorists and pessimists that GW does? personally any addition they make I am happy with. 26 cahr slots....ZOMGWTFBBQ that's alot of slots, I only wanted like, one, for a PvE slot, since just about every chapter will have a class that I will very likely not be able to play, and even that doesn't matter if they make 2 slots per chap, considering I will never ever try a mesmer or a monk I can't handle so much micro management, I am too focused on slaughtering people *evil grin* I do pray that they make game cardsforslots tho.... I have ah ard enough time askingmy mom for a packof gum, much less to let me use her credit card O.O, reconnects, I just now figured out what they mean, and they would be nice to have but I'm in no rush, good things come to those who wait. Uber PvE in nightfall WOOOOOOOOOT! Finally us PvE'ers get more stuff that we can lord over the PvPers who think they are so 1337 with their rank emotes. Gaileasking about Sin/Ritcontent WOOT My sin will be able to keep up with the core elitists, maybe..
