Enlighten Me, Mobs Holding Weapons Means They Drop It?
Mother_Goose
Just a small question. Not really sure if this is the right forum or not, just looked like it should be.
If a mob is holding a certain weapon, will that increase the chances of dropping? If a mob isn't holding a certain weapon, will it drop at all?
Personally, I've never really noticed a difference if they are or not. But just from reading around, I've noticed others think otherwise.
Got any theories? Evidence anyone?

I have killed Sskai (for example) many times while he's holding his sword, and yet it never drops.
I have seen posts on GuildWiki in areas stating that if they have the weapon they will drop it. However I don't fully believe them. Also, I heard something about the mobs beign changed so that you can no longer tell if they will drop a weapon by just looking.
Edit: I was just reminded of one time when I was killing my Dopple, it had a shield. When I killed it, the sheild dropped for me.

Sometimes an enemy will drop the item it's holding. You get a chance of the drop being:
1) money
2) the weapon or offhand that it's using
3) a trophy (hydra claws, bleached shells, etc)
4) an armor (not all drop armors, and some have multiple armors they can drop, like Sand Giants)
5) some totally random item, including keys and crafting materials
6) nothing at all
So it is possible, but there's a percentage involved. I was farming Grawl yesterday and 2 of them had Righteous Mauls, and you know I was hoping really hard. Well one did drop, but it was a +15% vs hexed, merchant fodder. Ugh.

before bosses used to drop their greenies only when they have them equiped. anet changed that tho, now bosses have greenies equiped all the time, yet dont drop them all that often
.
as for regular monsters, i have had times, when for example, i get hit with an obviously vampiric weapon (that particular time was from a Jade brotherhood knight or whatever they are called), which turned out to be a vampiric halo axe or seomthin (gold one).
also you can see it on smite runs a lot, sometimes smite crawlers have say a divine icon equiped, 100% of the time ive seen it, they drop the same item.
so yes, sometimes

If you take bosses who drop green weapons as an example, as far as I have seen a boss that wields a certain weapon will only drop that weapon if he is wielding it. Take Sskai and his sword. It is easy to tell if he is actually wielding the sword or if he is not. Personally I have only seen him drop the sword if it is in his hands.
Of course with some other bosses you cannot tell if they are wielding their green weapon or not.
If this really does apply to bosses and their green weapons, then it should also apply to other mobs too.
This is only my personal observation though and as drops in this game are so totally and utterly random.

The changes are higher is they hold it. Once in a while I see an enemy with FDS and afterwards I see them drop it (not everytime though).

This should have been posted in the Q&A fourm, not riverside. Make sure to use to the correct on next time please

What exactly makes you sure its his sword? If you want to stand in front of Sskai and get wailed on for a bit to check if his damage matches a 15^50 sword be my guest.
This has worked quite alot vs Milthuran. He either holds a sword and staff, a sword and rod or just a sword. If he doesn't attack you with a staff... he has never dropped it for me. The first run he attacked with a staff, low and behold i got his staff.
While Forest farming i could see 1 of the Spirit Shephards holding a Storm Artifact... it dropped. I just doubt this applies as much to warriors or Chaos Axes and Shadow Blades would be the most common drops in FoW (considering they have crappy Shadow Staffs to contend with, thats saying somet).

I'm not sure if it applies universally, but sometimes in Perdition Rock, you see a phantom with a chakram or something like that floating around it, or a dryder with a wand floating (I assume it's because they don't actually have arms to hold it with, but the item is still animated). As far as I can tell, they always drop that item if you see that.
Haven't seen any like that recently though. Kinda weird. It might apply to the bosses.

I laugh every time I see a jade scarab attack me with a focus equipped. =)

sometimes they drop what they have-----other times, well, I am wondering how the ice imps have fire wands and how the warriors I kill have caster weapons.....but who knows? You never know what will drop (like the armor from the sand giants---major ILLUSION magic?)

Zinger314
It always seem to be that way during SF Farming. If Brohn was carrying his Staff or Holy Rod, it would always drop.

Sometimes i see casters drop hammers or swords so i belive it is totallly random
