why no "white" skin color in GWN?
Lawnmower
Boy I have a feeling that I will get called a racist and all sorts of things but I simply does not understand this concept.
Im a white guy and I like to make characters that look similiar to my apperance as much as possible.
GW had both white and black skin color tones... so there was something for everybody.
I don't understand why this can not be the case with Nightfall??
Im very well aware that the game is inspired by north africa, but lets be honest. there is no egypt or morroco or africa in Tyria.
I dont even remember if GWF had a wide selection of skin color but it should have IMO. there should be equalness in this. something for everybody.
just seems silly to me to only make dark skinned characters.
sorry if anyone feel this is offensive or racistic. I just would like to see a wider arrange of skin colors...

eh, there probably will be more skin tones to choose from, we only had 3 over an event so far before the actual release of the game, we have no idea what's what yet.
TalonTheCat
Extremely pale gal here - I too like to create a character that has similar characteristics to myself.
That being said though, I don't think there was enough dark skinned choices in Tyria (not sure about Factions)

Given the facial features of the Elonans, it would look very very strange if they didn't have dark skin tones.
Aerian_Skybane
I dont know where your getting your info from but in the PVP beta, I had a white Paragon with pale blue eyes.... Skin tones havent changed much since GWP. So.....
I wish I hadnt deleted my preview paragon, but i didnt need him after trying it and his name was stupid. "Paragon Skybane" so stupid. But he was definitely white. So I wouldn't count your chickens before the fat lady sings.. wait...

gene terrodon
Being a person of color, I am disappointed with teh GW selections.
Sure, they have dark skin shades, but one looks to me as if it's just a white person with a good tan and the other is just way too dark.
That's not the only issue, the hair choices and facial features don't vibe.
All of the hairstyles are long and straight or short and straight. My hair doesn't look like that. The only way to get something accurate is to make a bald-headed character...I HAVE HAIR, and then the facial features are off.
I can go on and on and name game after game where this is the case.
So I feel your pain...or better yet...YOU feel my pain.

Note that some classes did, in fact, have light skn tone options as well some caucasian face options. I would expect that these selections will be expanded upon release to be similar to the offerings in Factions. Having said that, you will almost certainly see more African-esque models and skin tones in Nightfall, just as you had more Asian models in Factions.
Delarn
sorry about the K in african... but I didn't check the facials features. I just think they will not give caucasian color.
MMSDome
I hope the Black person features doesnt hinder my chances at making a Arabic looking person, because its what I want!

they had black for european/asian as options didnt they?

Did anyone try using an old trial-key from the Factions preview for the Nightfall preview? If you did, you could see the Nightfall faces and flesh tones they have planned for all of the professions, and not just for the dervish and paragon. Most were black-looking, but not all. There was an 80's style flat-top for male mesmers, and a huge frizzy 70's afro for male ele's that both made me laugh.
The odd thing is that most North africans - Egyptians, Moroccans, etc, don't look black at all - mostly a mixture of european white and arab olive-skinned.

HOMIE_G64
They weren't that brownish. I think the default color was pretty good. And about the white people... would you want to see a white african? I was pretty annoyed with the brown Asian and I really don't want to see another bad coloring job. If you want to play as a person who looks European just wait until the full release and make your Prophecies character go to Elona
Mordakai
I really don't understand the OP.
This doesn't look white to you:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/gallery...649&fullsize=1
As to Gene's and others comments about facial features and hair matching skin tones:
Factions had "Asian" faces, so I see no reason to doubt Nightfall will have "African" features.

There was no male dervish, and there was no female paragon. There was what, 3 skin tones for these 2 professions? I think ANet is gonna add more.
Moldy
Im gonna have to go against you on this one. The image that Mordokai showed looked like my skin color.
Lawnmower
Come to think of it, I created a pale paragon.
But deverish is what I like.
You see, I have always loved melee classes but was always annoyed that warriors are sort of fat and overly steroid muscle build, while Assassins was totally pansy and skinny.
I thought Deverish looked uber cool because their body type was sort of normal.. but was just sad to see that there where none in "my" color.
And I will admit this - I never gave this a single thought until it was "my" skin color I felt was missing. And I think this goes across in most games which is wrong. The only "big" commercial game I remember having a black lead character was C.J from San Andreas. A cool character I might at. But that the majority is white is wrong.
Lately I noticed while playing Prey, that the main character was native american. I sort of digged that.
I maybe should put myself in african american peoples position when I make these thread.
I agree that people from egypt and morroco dont really look typical african. They really just look more like spanish and Italians. Like a mixture of all.
I know that factions had a asian theme but what was wrong with having dark skin colors for that game? Is it not in Indonesia that there are very dark skinned asians? And cambodia?
I mean, GW: Prophercies was also supposed to be based in europe in the middleages but that game had also dark skinned people which was highly uncommon back there(beyond as slaves, I belive).
I wanna see Indian and south african and latino type characters in this game as well...
When Nightfall comes out im guying to buy a new slot, just so I can make my own Mr. T warrior from nightfall
It would just be neat if we could get a pale deverish.

I hope that when Nightfall comes out, we can have a broad choice of skin tones, hair, and different facial types. Ideally, what I'd like to see is all the choices from past games, and the new types. Shouldn't be too hard to do, and slider bars are wonderful things. *hint, hint, Anet*
Nevin
I'd atleast like to see Middle Eastern (Indian or Persian) skin tones... Like a light tawny.
From what I saw in the glitch before the preview event... There were only 3 skin tones per profession. Black, Dark Brown, Brown. (No racial pun intended) I'd atleast like to see like I said, something a bit more persian... The Paragon skin tone was a fine example.

Well, we know it'll be at least two months before final release, so I'm sure they will add a larger variety of colors, faces, and hairstyles. Remember, the PvP weekend was a beta event, so things will change before final release.
General Surena
Persian is a language and Indians vary extremely. What you are referring to is Orientalid with a tendency to Mediterranean features/skintone. Remembering the very few seconds I could play around with the Elonian character creatin during the PvP-Weekend it looks like we will have the chance of Berberid looking NF chars - as the blue-eyed paragon mentioned earlier in this thread. Light eye colors are not uncommon there if we are allowed to refer to the real world.

I hope, eventually, Guild Wars will allow more customization. I realize that we're not going to see something with say, Galaxies level of customization, but the more options the better in my book.
Sciros Darkblade
It would of course be great if we had more control over character appearance. That is something that I find sorely lacking in Guild Wars.
As more chapters come out we do get more options, naturally, but they're more like "preset packages" of looks.

Although Im pretty sure they will add more skintones..it does seem like the variety in GWF was less than in GWP. Besides the white skintone/s, I'd wish they'd add the black black tone from GW:P that I haven't seen in GWF..
This is what I mean: http://img106.imageshack.us/my.php?image=vixen1om0.jpg
It might have to do with the facial structure though, idk.

Guys if they offered 3 faces per class @ release people would be upset... same with something as simple as skin color. I'm almost posative you will have a lot more choices than you did in the preview event.
eternal pho
There were white skins in Prophecies, asian skins in Factions, and will be black/dark skins for Nightfall, so there is equality. ^^

I know i usually like to make characters somewhat to my appearce to i usually have them the peachish tan thing really the proffessions should get from
super pale like the pale kurzicks, to what nightfall's skin tones were, very dark. I mean it's a fantasy game really, so i mean what's so bad with having more customization in the appearance, no one is trying to be racist on either end, most of the time they just try to invision themselves as the crazy character on the screen owning up some people

Didn't Gaile or one of the Devs already say that these weren't all of the skintones...? Someone made a thread exactly like this during the weekend, this was all cleared up awhile ago.

Having more options is nice. But please dont say that just because Prophecies and Factions gave you the option of making a dark skinned character means that the character is of African descent. It's insulting.
I know the OP isnt racist or being a jerk about anything, he's just asking for more options, but the thing is that GW has always limited the ethnicity/race of the character that you can make according to each Chapter. It's just more "realistic" to have people in the region look a certain way.
I remember when Factions came out, some complained about being able to make only Asian faces. Some were racist about it too. I'll never understand why people are so intolerant.
I didnt see blacks/asians/latins complain that they could only make anglo characters in Prophecies so I don't think there should be complaints about Nightfall or Factions' "lack" of anglo characters.
Again, I'm not knocking the OP...but what's wrong with making an african character? Im sure your other 6 characters are already "white" I'm not at all opposed to adding light skin tones in, it's just the reasons people are giving for it that bothers me.

One of the warriors has hair just like Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction and I got a big laugh outta that.
but seriously, there need to be more skin tones, eye colors, hair styles, et cetera. The necro hairstyles were especially limiting.
I had a similar complaint with the faces on Factions. They were all asian, in some form or another, and I found that really limiting when I'm trying to make a character that I've envisioned in my head.

I usualy play a white man, as that's what I am, but if I was to play a Paragon, I would really like a darker skin, but not like, dark dark brown, just something a bit middle-eastern, like many people proposed. I'm sure they'll add something like this.
I hope.
I hope.
Death Snapper
I think you miss part of the point of RPGs, you are ment to play the role of the character in the story (in this case, if you create a new character for the chapter, it is a character from Elona, of Elonian descent) not play the role of yourself playing the role of another character
but anyways, more choice is always good. I agree that they should add more, but seriously you cant judge from what they have shown up till this point. A-net will obviously add more choices

Similar concerns were raised after the Factions preview events. At that time, Gaile said that the choices we had seen were not all that we would get at release time. This was true, but when the game was actually released, I believe there were only a few more choices than had been available in the previews. So, technically true, but very limited. I sincerely hope that does not happen again. Customers ask for more choice: it's in the company's best interests to cater to that and offer more choice.
ChildeOfMalkav
Oh noes! We have to make an asian character in an asian themed chapter and dark skinned characters in an african themed chapter? That's like totally bogus!
But seriously, why do you people have such objections in playing characters that reflect any sort of ethnicity. I dont really buy the excuse that you want the characters to look like you since I can bet some of you guys are playing female characters. And I highly doubt that all 6 of your characters look like you.
I am also not opposed to having more options, but it seems like a lot of you arent really asking for more options, just the option to not have to play anything other than a white character.

...And for the record, four of my six characters look like me. My monk doesn't, because (a) male monks all look slightly chubby, and (b) the only "full head of hair" option for Tyrians was a rasta sort of thing; and my warrior doesn't 'cause she's female ... which in turn came about because the only build option for male warriors was "'roided freak". My female warrior, I hate to admit, looks more like me than would be possible using the male warrior mesh.
