what would make me buy nightfall
kai_razorwind
I know that its nearly pointless to, 1 month before release, let them know what would make me buy their sequel, since they would have little time to implement what I was going to suggest, but its not the first time I make these suggestions, and its more of a rant anyway. I'd like to start by saying, October will be an awesome month for the hardcore rpg player. Several awesome games coming out, 2 of which will take most of my attention, being Dark Messiah MM and NWN 2. With that said, GW simply needed to innovate gameplay enough so that people like me would have enough reasons to buy Nightfall and not those games I mentioned, but it doesnt seem to be the case. Alex Weekes once said "we will improve gameplay rather than thinkering with arbitrary numbers" regarding factions and level cap, and factions still was what it was :S.
What im trying to say is, anet is so stuck with its core basic mechanics that it cannot see beyond them to improve the game. They could add 20 different classes, yet they will never add the char customization that made me spend about 5 hours modelling my character's face in Oblivion to look exactly like me. The majority of players will continue to make female chars only, and anet will simply never question as to why and how to improve the looks and animations of male chars so people will start picking them. They may add over 150 new skills with every expansion yet they will never go back and realize "hey, there are tons of skills nobody ever uses under any circumstances, why is that". Ill tell u why. Because we just have 7 skills and 1 res, or 8 skills if you're either brave or questing with henchmen, those skills will never be good enough to find their way into a bar no matter how much they tweak em. And even if they do realize that, they wont ever give us more skills slots cus "it will ruin pvp" They will also never put in prestige classes for the very same reason. Or allow for more atr points which would allow for more diversified builds.
So basically, they may make henches smarter, neat looking numbers pop up when u hit things, add 2 classes each expansion, but they wont ever make a game with a solid replay value.
One thing that by itself would make me buy nightfall would be if you could choose your char's appearance in terms of body. If i wasnt forced to make a warrior that looks like a gym rat tree stump on steroids, or a fat balding monk, I might have given those classes more attention. I wanna make chars that look like me, and those do not.
The fact that expansion classes are not supported on the following expansion only makes matters worse.
Id add in some pics to some graphical glitches that show when a ranger shoots the bow, or how cool it would be if warriors could look like luxon merchants, etc etc but ive done all of that on the past and it proved fruitless (even tho when a female armor glitch was posted it was fixed right away, curious).
Anyway, to sum it all up, I wont be buying nightfall because its not a huge improvement over the previous games IMO because anet doesnt know how to go beyond what they have now, or does not want to, or doesnt have the resources to, or all of the above. Id pay 50 bucks if they didnt add a single new map but did the changes i mentioned, but i doubt it will happen,so yeah...

Ill probably wait till its around 20-30 bucks, then get it.

it's an mmo my friend... if you are allowed oblivion style face customisation, the trade off is that when you enter a town or outpost, it will take your comp 30 min to dl the faces of pplz in there, and an other 30 min to dl the ppl who are trying to enter the town when you are loading and then an other 30 min.... etc...
won't be seeing you in nightfall then...

As for campaign specific professions, I think at some point they might have said that not all new campaigns will have new professions and some will have content for all old ones. The world of GW will not miss you sir.

I disagree. The game is balanced as it is. I don't need to grind more with each chapter, thanks.
I thought you said this similar thing before Factions also, with "I need a raise in lv cap" and such.
And have you bought Factions?
p.s. nevermind the fact that your thread got closed on GWO though.

the only part that i agree with is that 8 slots is way too little...but i doubt that will ever change

And to the OP....I do agree that some changes are needed besides adding skills and classes for replay value. But I think you're nitpicking about the graphics and graphics options. So what if you cant make a character that looks like YOU? More customization options would be great, but you seem to put a great emphasis on demanding being able to make a character look like you.

im probally not going to buy it i dont see the point factions sucks nightfall will suck and all i will have to look forward to is getting my titles maxed out and grinding

Alright guys, let's try to keep the flaming to a minimum here.

I kinda fed up with when ppl say "oh i don't think Anet will do this because they will need to change their this and that". I say get off your lazy asses Anet and make it work. I'm not a programmer and i don't earn thousands of dollars designing games but the basics of buying and selling is you provide what the customers want and the customer will buy your product. if you can't do this and that then i can't buy your product because it is not what i want.
Phew... my rant for the day.

so your saying that factions didnt suck im afraid it did all you do is grind for faction or grind for weapons pushing it in pvp i nthis chapter then pve the next chapter i just wish anet would have some balls and stay in one place

Some ppl here are missing the point.
Char customization is just one thing that they could do to add to replay value. All warriors look the same. All monks look the same, all eles look the same and so on, and on top of that they all look bad except for the females.
Prestige classes which would come with the mastery of 2 classes and represent their dedication with those 2 is another one. E.g. wa/mo-> paladin. Each prestige class would have 1 elite skill and 5 regular skills and 1 set of armor. Ive suggested this many times.
More skill slots is another. Lots and lots of this game's skills are never going to be used no matter how they balance the game out because they are not useful enough to fit in someone's 8 skill bar (7+res usually). The solution is to have a few more so that those skills which are mainly support would be used.
I could go on with my suggestions, but none of the above or the other ones I'd post would ever make it into GW, because the game has self imposed boundaries the developers will never break, simply because they are obsessed with balance and comparing a MMO to a card game. THAT is my point and thats why their "revolutionary" new feats such as "customizable heroes that follow you" are vanilla in other games and do not add to replay value at all.
They try to hard to appeal to the pvp competitive and to the hardcore pve croud and they're losing both because of it. I've said that many times, and its becoming clear more and more. Dj Wheat host of WoC recently said the VERY same, so you got the scoop from the other side of the coin too...
Bottom line is ANET stop fooling yourself with "PVP is the PVE endgame", thats bull and only yourself believe in that. Give us replay value, non fedex quests, more ways to play the game such as I have mentioned, break your silly mold or you wont stand a chance against the quality games coming out at the very same month as yours. As for me, I'll be having a blast being a halfling bard/red dragon disciple/champion of torm in NWN2 and a necromancer in Dark Messiah MM. Good luck getting the real rper's out there attention to your game with your current strategy.

Wooow.
I will noq quote. BUT GW will stay as it IS. This is the CHARM of the game. If you want so many drastic changes YOU need to change the sport. THIS is not your game and it is obviuous. I like it this way and that is why I play it. I don't like dishes of snails. I don't eat them, I do not try to alter their taste.
It is not like your ideas are stupid, it is that they are not for GW. For example I will also play the games you said, because of their charm and they unique style. But you cannot make GW to look like them.

I'm buying it - I dont need a special reason
Chapters are optional
- sit this one out if you like

im buying it as well. i don't NEED exciting new features. 2 new classes was enough to sell it to me (along with what comes with them: weapons, armor, missions, etc)
The Silver Star
I am only going to purchase Nightfall because i will need to to be bale to keep up in PvP apart from that im not looking forward to the new pve side of the game as i dont want t be let down again as i was after factions release. However since it was made by the team that made Prophecies it cant be that bad

I would REALLY like to know how many of the sales of Factions turned out to be merged accounts i.e. fans of the original buying the second one. If it's a pretty high percent that rides roughshot over the whole "it's a standalone" game argument - people are buying them as expansions.
That is, of course, assuming there's a high percent of merged accounts as opposed to "standalone" accounts. Without info from Anet, no way of knowing really, but I'm going to take a guess from the forums at least most here are mergers and approaching it like expansions. They end up buying because most of their Guild gets it, for PvP reasons etc if they want to stay "up to date"
p.s. I mean active accounts, not ones who maybe stopped playing.

I settle for a bigger exploring area, smarter hench and less godly monsters, unless they are bosses who drop good items.
Anet doesn't understand that with every item-drop nerf they make the game less desirable. I spent all day killing bosses for drops, and they never dropped one single green. The rewards for killing bosses is way to low.
Also, cookie builds are killing the game. It makes it boring and boring.
I'll buy Nightfall, but when it isn't any bigger than Factions, I'll put it in a drawer and forget all about Guild Wars.

I'm buying Nightfall for whatever ingame item I get with the CE, so I can sell it on the first day of release for 100k + and pawn it all back to my Assasin.
Anyone with me?

IMO, Nightfall is gonna be a make-or-break thing with ANET. You liked Prophecies; you hated Factions (or vice-versa). You liked grinding; you didn't like grinding. You like to PVE more than PVP; you like PVP more than PVE. It's going to be interesting to see, after all the speculation going on, how Nighfall will deliver. I'll be buying it, giving them the benefit of the doubt with Factions. IMO, they followed a really great Ch1 with a not so great Ch2, so I'm more than curious to see if they can deliver with Nightfall...

If we have learnt anything from games like Doom 3, Battle for Middle Earth 1, Duke Nukem Forever and Daikatana, we should know that hype ruins a game.
To tired to explain why, but i'm sure you will understand if you have been a hardcore gamer for the past 10 years.

my only hope for nightfall is that some of the factions nerfs are removed. like running. not only is it a good hobby of mine, i also use runners a lot. people say running is just a way of getting noobs where they shouldnt be. this is wrong. when i make my 15th character, i dont want to be jerking around on naphui quarter mission AGAIN i want to get to cavalon and start the REAL story. hence running would be awesome. the simple reason is you cannot get far in the game unless you spend a good 20 hours of repetitive afflicted slaying gaming. running is one of the things that makes prophecies so replayable. running is what i need to see back in nightfall and i will buy it.

you will see that Nightfall has at least 1 barricade that prevents running

most of the things the complaining OP mentioned as reasons not to get Nightfall are reasons i WILL get Nightfall.

I am also buying it. I support ANET and I love GW. The Temple Save option is one huge reason to purchase Nightfall. And in regards to the half ass graphics, have you seen other MMO? GW beats them in every sense in regards to graphics. I do agree about the faces, they need to combine all faces/skins/hairs. That way, when you create a Canthan warrior, you can use faces/hair from Tyria and Elona. That would be awesome.
Pandora's box
Hmmm lets see... To my opinion Grinding is much more fun than aggroing! Aggroing is repetitive in a boring way, it holds up the game, and does not encourage players to find new strategies.
Since its unlikely Anet now will support grinding, I hope they find ways to make maps attractive without hundreds of red dots crawling in each valley: Why not make a huge dragon (with lots of spells) controll the valley? Hidden structures with random dungeons would be great too! Anyway, make the game more non-linear and PLEASE add NEW elements that make the game move more towards RPG

One thing i wanted to see are hidden areas or different bosses (diffcult one like Glint) who guards special areas or items. Also can we FINALLY get a better quests reward instead of xp, gold, and sometime crappy items?

Gold, high exp and a skill point is much better than it used to be... Its much more flexible now, so how can you say other wise? The reason they did this in Factions was because players were complaining about the rigid way you learned skills in Prophecies, and they succeeded here, so lets keep the good and change the bad

a little off topic perhaps, but will nightfall give two more char slots like factions? Or do we have to buy them since now there's the online shop? (I honestly hope they will give them with the game cos i don't think many would like it if they didn't.)
To the OP, about the skills. GW having the 8-skills-only-at-a-time thing is what makes it different. Don't get me wrong i would simply looove to be able to use them all but then only precious few builds would survive. the IW mesmer, and others i don't know. on second thought builds will simply vanish for the 'skillbar' would be your entire skill arsenal.

hm, why would I buy nightfall.......welll, got burned on the preorder of factions (and no the minipet didnt make up for not getting to play with my guildees when I had a forced vacation and only prophecys to play).....I will wait until it hits the stores.....I really dont care about the uber CE weapons (they werent that good), so I think that some GOOD reviews and no marketing problems would be a start........I am on the fence right now, and will remain there until its in the stores!

Anyone think we'll finally get lip-sync for all the in-game cutscene now or will they continue to speak without moving their mouth?
