Still no skill updates???
twicky_kid
This is rather annoying. The ladder is going to reset tomorrow and we still have no skill changes.
WTH is going on? The first 2 weeks or so will be just experimenting. Last time at least they gave us a week to figure things out before reset. Gaile said Monday last week that a skill update should be within the week.
Well......its been over a week and no update. If Anet needs some alpha testers I would be happy to help. How about during the Ladder lock you let us be your alphas? Just make it a pvp weekend with some changes and 2x balth faction. Then, get some feedback.
We used to get skill updates just about every month. Mind you the game was severily imbalanced back then. Anet used to faster on these sort of things. Comparing back then to now it feels to me like we get less support from Anet with things that really matter. I understand that they are developing a new game, releasing a new game, and making changes to existing version all at the same time. That's a full plate.
I've played with the glitches. Fine....they'll fix it when they can. I've played with the lag. Ladder lock and no events so servers where cut to reduce cost. I can understand that and have no real complaints. I enjoy playing a free game.
But not making skill changes at least a week or 2 weeks before the season starts is irresponsible. What happens when you make a change to a few skills and wrecks some people's builds? They have to now create a new build and learn how to play it. What if you tank you rating trying to find a good build that works for your team?? You are screwed. If you reform the guild or join another guild after the ladder resets you are not eligible to win anything.
The first few weeks is going to be a total mess.

Be patient. ArenaNet will release the Skill Balance before the update.
Of course, as you all know, ArenaNet is never flexible with their time schedules. So start creating panic threads if there isn't an update when the latter resets.

They did this exact thing before Factions. We were gonna have a skill update in March, ...then Late March, ....the First Week of April, ...Finally the 'update' came out concurrently with Factions. That was the big MM nerf.
I realize you are wanting the update for PvP players, but my point is that they are disruptive to PvE'er as well. If the pre-Factions update had come as planned, the MMs would have had time to re-adjust their builds and re-learn to play before jumping head-first into Factions.
I'm not saying people wouldn't have complained a lot, but that there is some legitimacy to all the griping....a major nerf at the same time as new content is VERY BAD.

My problem is looking at the top guilds most of them have less than 20 losses. If skills get changed 1 day before ladder unlock you can get that many losses just trying to get used to a new build. That will put you out of the running for the play offs.
As for the impact on pve it will endure. They are not giving $100k to play pve. In no way am I discrediting pve but the difference has to be made clear. Pve will go on no matter what changes are made. Players have forever to adjust with no real backlash.

I agree with Twicky_kid here, it would help a lot of guilds prepare for the upcoming season if the skill updates came out a few days earlier or at least a list of upcoming changes.
Its not too big of a deal since everyone is equally unprepared and will figure out new builds in a few days.

Did you read the OP's post? It was not about the skills but about the timing, the inconsistency with Gaile's message and the inconvenience it can cause for guilds.

1) it is their game
2) great idea to keep things fresh
3) no copy cat crap with fotm, find your own build and be skillfull
as far as i am concerned releasing a skill update at the same time the ladder resets will allow the players with actual skill to be at the top where they deserve to be... not whoever can copy the best builds first and stay up hours upon hours using character builds they didnt even come up with themselves takeing the fame from someone elses inteligence and skill.

Any skill changes will keep the game fresh but the timing is very bad.
Obs mode is always available. You can copy any build you want to. That doesn't mean you'll be able to run it like that top guild you copied it from. Most good guilds have their own build anyways. Copying a build has nothing do with skill changes.
Changing skills at the time of ladder reset has nothing to do with skill. I could easily sit around for a week and watch how the meta game shifts instead of tanking my rating. I just don't want to lose 1 week of a 4 week season just to prevent tanking my rating due to skill changes that could have been done a week or 2 prior.
Tozen
Actually, if you remember right OP, this exact same thing happened before Factions.
I imagine that we won't be seeing a serious skill re-balance until Nightfall is released.

while people are in observer mode trying to figure out what builds work the best the doers are already out their making their mark
the ladder is open for limited amounts of time for a reason by giving people a head start and being able to develope new builds before the ladder is reset doesnt do justice for the skilled players who can develope builds on the fly at a moments notice
with skill changes right at the start of the reset you will really see who is who in the ladder... not just a bunch of gimp copy cats already set up knowing whats coming...
good guilds shouldnt have a problem with this at all if they are confident in their abilities... only peeps worried about it are people that need to test their builds to make sure they work... or see what everyone else is doing so they need no inteligence at all to grind away...
it all comes down to skill and that really is a fact... none of this sissy who can race the ladder fastest crap it will be who can make the best builds and race the ladder the fastest... it will make the ladder race all that more entertaining and meaningful IMO
twicky_kid
Changing builds and coming up with new concepts isn't the issue. Its about learning how to use that build during a 4 week season while not tanking your rating. GvG really does leave little margin for error if you want to be at the top.
Terra Xin
It would be nice if Anet would state something and then follow up what they say. Gaile has already become an unreliable source because some things that are mentioned usually tend to happen a few weeks later.

*it is skill and not making the mistakes the other makes*
you can all tank equally unless as an above poster said they are more skillful than you are

I'd rather have too many skill balances than too few.

You could say that since everyone will be affected by the skill update, the competition would then be about who can adapt fastest to the changes.
Not the best situation, but it could end up to be quite exciting.

EXACTLY!
fenix
It shouldn't be about who can adapt quickest, Anet should give us some headsup on skills balances, so we can adapt before the season starts, rather than trying to do so during the season, which can bring losses pretty quickly. This is pretty shabby of Anet, although I imagine the leaked skill balances has made Anet rethink what skills to fix.
Zinger314
For the record, Gaile confirmed that the leaked skill balance was fake. However, she didn't confirm when the real one will be released.
fenix
I doubt that it was fake, it was probably just a proposed balance, not the actual one. Probably just a stage one update, or a first draft or whatever.

I agree with the OP here, I think it would be nice if the update came a bit sooner so we could adjust our build apropriatly if we need to. Having to come up with a new concept as well would suck.
There were a couple of posts that bothered me though, and those were the ones ragging on people who copy builds. There are 2 types of teams in a guild battle, the winner and the loser. There is no award, or rating given to the guild who was origional, just the one that won the battle. While farming the ladder by staying up for days at a time can be a problem, just becuase someone uses someone else's build doesn't mean they're worse at it. Guild Wars PvP is about winning, not being origional.

1) Gaile OF COURSE said that the leaked list was fake...Do you expect them to be embarrassed like that and show the flaws in their alpha program?
Its just like I said probably, It was a proposed list from the alphas and they are probably rushing now to tweak what they'll be updating so they can scream that the list was fake and everything on their front is A-Ok.
2) I am starting to beleive shady Geocity (or w/e) sites more than I beleive what Gaile says nowadays..

I agree bout the timing....but maybe this will be the idea of this season start?...anyway:
The fake skill list got some pretty good ideas, I hope some of them are already in the real list, also I would like to see skills that need boost and not listed in the fake upgraded as well
So we can only sit and wait (where the "sit" part is optional)

Cassandra
If they were fake, she wouldn't have asked everyone and everywhere to remove them; she would just have commented about them being fake.
My guess is that the final skill balance will be 95% true to what was leaked.
What I find rather interesting is that I didn't have the perception that the Alpha-Testers were SO many. Recently it turned out that A LOT of the top guilds, plus people working in forums, have someone with the alpha-tester status. I understand that ANet wants to hear from people who use and push their skills to the limit, but that's like having a strong insider for many many guilds.
In this occasion, skill balance will come the same day the ladder reopens; unlike the OP, I'm under the impression that most top guilds have already been experimenting new builds in the light of the new changes, which are still unknown to the mass. And I feel rather disappointed for that.
