It’s become increasingly clear to me over the last few commissions that my old system isn’t working as well as I’d like. There are a number of problems with it. Firstly, a set fee of 100k doesn’t really cope with the diverse pictures that I want to do. Secondly, because it takes me so long to do each image (and these times are getting longer, not shorter) The list will never get to a point where I can fulfil demand. The last four people I’ve contacted (who were at the top of my list) have not responded. This is completely understandable, they may have simply lost interest in a commission, they might have run out of gold, or even stopped playing GW. After such extended waits, it’s hardly surprising.
So, bearing in mind that with the current system, I will never be able to provide images to everyone interested, and even to reach the end of my current list would take me many months, I’m going to change how people submit their commissions to me, and how I go about accepting them.
So, here’s how it’s going to work.
As I’ve said before, the work going into these pictures has been increasing, this is mostly because of higher expectations (on both my part, and the part of the people commissioning). With this in mind, I’m freeing up the pricing for images. The old prices still stand for the most part (25k for a simple concept sketch, 50k for a simple single character painting, and 100k for a single character painting with a background). However, with the new “pitching” system, you will be able to barter somewhat with these prices. If you have an amazing concept, but don’t have the full 100k, you can still submit a pitch, and if I really like it, I might take it on. Equally, if you are feeling flush, you might be able to provide me with some of my “Wanted Stuff” and get your foot in the door that way.
This new “Pitch” system is basically a method I can use to screen ideas before I get started. It will give me an idea of what character(s) people want to have drawn, along with their foibles, before I actually take on a commission. I want you to convince me that drawing your character will be more fun than anyone else’s will. How you go about this is up to you, but in general, the more you know about your character, and the more interesting the concept for the image, the better chance you will stand.
And finally, I am doing away with the waiting list. This will come as a blow to some (the ones closer to the top than the bottom) but if anyone who was on the waiting list is still interested in a picture, they can reapply here in this new thread. Under the new system, people who were previously on the list, still stand a good chance of getting a commission. In addition, I will certainly take into account their position on the list when reading their pitch. If there’s no waiting list, how do I decide who’s image to work on, I hear you ask. Simple, whenever I’ve finished my current images, I will take a scan through my thread, and look at all the pitches, I’ll take the ones that appeal to me most at the time, and contact the person at hand.
Now I know this new system is less fair than the old one, it’s more biased, and it means that there will be less certainty that people applying for a commission will get one. However, it should also mean that the work I do is more fun for me, of a higher quality, and more diverse. People who really care about their characters and really want a commission should stand a far better chance under this new system
